Women in Battlefield isn't historically accurate
Instantly reviving someone by pressing a button isn't historically accurate
Having your health regen isn't historically accurate

It's a ... video game but of course the only historical inaccuracy people lose their shit over is women.

The weird thing here is that Call of Duty WWII did the same thing, including women as soldiers in the multiplayer mode. It became one of the biggest sellers on PS4/Xbox One.

Are Call of Duty fans more mature than Battlefield fans?

Antagonizing their fans.
If their fans are raging misogynistic asshats, maybe they need new fans.

Or: These aren't representative of the majority of people who play Battlefield and just because they're loud and obnoxious, doesn't mean they should be pandered to.

Of course most of the gaming industry do pander to idiots like this, so it's not surprising to see them whine like this.

The way women are portrayed in BFV is fine. Anyone who feels the need to throw their toys out over it need to grow up.

Good to see DICE doubling down on their inclusive marketing instead of cowering out. Here's hoping the game has legs.

I feel like BF fans in general wanted more of a realistic, authentic experience while COD fans just want to enjoy the game, they don't care.

Always shocked to see any woman joining this "movement" against diversity in a Battlefield game. Don't they realized it's not about accuracy, but the fact that it's a woman? These people are the same ones that think you should be at home bare footed with dinner ready.

I'm glad to see Dice sticking to it's guns.

The amount of mental gymnastics required for alt-righters to seriously believe their demo is being marginalized and persecuted by the existence of female avatars is.... Staggering

In Battlefield 1, an American gambler disguises himself as a member of the British upper class while making zero effort to use an accent which everyone notices and is played for laughs, and then he basically wins the Battle of Britain, before dramatically jumping off the side of an exploding German airship into the Thames. He survives, naturally,.

I recall exactly zero complaints about how this was spitting on the graves of the brave men who fought in the Battle of Britain.
The narration made it incredibly clear though that he was an unreliable narrator and that he is basically overerxaggerating everything and making a whole lot up. AFAIR the character even says after the final mission "that's how it was... or was it?".

If you want to criticize the realism of the campaign then the first Italian mission is what you should be writing about.

You almost did make me post the "This turns my stomach. Just flat out the most offensive game I've ever seen. I can name family members that died in this conflict " copypasta though, so I have to give you that.

Well, black men and women fighting for the Wehrmacht in CoD WWII are a debatable inclusion, considering how Hitler and Nazi ideology not only treated women as baby-factories unfit to fight or do most jobs in general (not making this up), but also considered blacks to be subhuman (when the US and French deployed black soldiers the Nazi propaganda went into full overdrive calling those soldiers "animals and savages that sully the pure German blood") and children born from German-black relationships were often sterilized after the Nazis took over in 1933. That's like having a game about the American civil war with black soldiers fighting for the south.

Why are gamers such little reactionary shitstains? Do they have any self-awareness about the topics they are whining about?

Amazing.

This whole thing about Battlefield V made me want to buy the game even though I don't play this kind of game, only to support DICE and EA.

Call of Duty started giving players the ability to pick genders in multiplayer in Ghost, which was released in 2013 and was set during modern-day, which made it.. let's just say an easier pill to swallow for sexists at the time due to its modern setting, it also helps that the alt-right didn't have such a strong following at the time until Gamergate blew up in 2014, so whatever anger gamers may have had with COD WW2 having playable women was already unleashed years ago.

DICE released two modern day Battlefield titles in 2013 and 2015 which had an all-male soldiers in multiplayer, it wasn't until a DLC for Battlefield 1 until they added female soldiers for the first time in the mainline franchise history, and even then, you could only use a female soldier in one specific faction and class archetype, Battlefield hasn't given people the option to freely pick the soldier's gender until 2018 with Battlefield V, and it being a world war 2 game on top of that drove gamers mad.

TL;DR: DICE was so late to the party while COD's developers have been progressive with their inclusions long before the alt-right was brought to light. Had they given people the option to play as female soldiers since Battlefield 4, the outrage over BFV (or rather BF1) would've never been this huge.

BFV turned to be one of the most entertaining game this year.
Of course after BF1 I won't pay a dime for any of their products, but the fuckups they do these days and the reactions are super funny.

Just to be sure: I'm all about the inclusion of all races/genders in videogames and I know games (like real life) are better with more diversity. With BF1 DICE had a chance to include not only underrepresented but unrepresented groups in their game. Since they only focused the marketable groups their 'effort' feels dishonest at best. It's just a marketing tool for them to differentiate BF from CoD and other shooters.

Infinite warfare also had your partner who was a female from what I recall. It was also the best CoD campaign in a long time.

But, now that you brought it up. Battlefield took way to fucking long to include playable female characters and they had plenty of chances in all their modern games to do so.

There are legitimate criticism to raise against BFV, but I feel like the gaming hobby have shown it's ugliest side with the game like no other before.

Honestly, if Battlefield 2143 features a future where 99% of the men had died from a virus and all playable characters were female, I'd be perfectly alright with it.

The idiots on that subreddit are so fucking stupid it's unreal.

If you get upset by this message, then you are quite literally part of the problem and who it's aimed at.

"Attacking the fans" what a laugh. I'm a fan of Battlefield and don't feel attacked.

The weirdest thing is that these people sight this as the reason for poor sales, I don't get it.
I feel like the general public that buys this kind of game doesn't even now about this stuff.
I get wanting things to be historically accurate, but this is a multiplayer game where weird shit happens and having character customization options is a good thing.
And thats what they are pissed about.
Having more options.
I just don't get it.
I get having weird Katanas and stuff looks kind of out of place, but I don't hink being able to play as a female character goes too far.

You see, gaming is the last safe space left for white teenager boys. Everything else has been polluted by "politics" and forced diversity. Without games, where else will they go?

For what it's worth, EA have long done interesting stuff with the Battlefield campaigns even if they've been conservative with MP. Not just having large sections of dialogue being in a foreign language with subtitles. (The entire Paris mission in Battefield 3 was 100% in Russian, and Battlefield 4 has major story sequences with unsubtitled Chinese.) DICE have long marched to their own drum where they really don't seem to give a crap if people feel alienated or not pandered to by their campaigns. Hannah and Irish were prominent supporting characters in Battlefield 4. Some people reacted VERY poorly to those two for reasons I personally think are racist/sexist. Battlefield: Hardline, by Visceral, starred a Cuban American police officer with a Chinese American (Not 100% sure on her ethnicity) female partner character. How many Cuban American FPS protagonists can you think of? Not many, right? In the mid-2000s, that kind of protagonist would likely be scrubbed into a generic Anglo dude with a gruff voice.

I remember seeing a former DICE person on Twitter saying that they wanted female characters in Battlefield 1 MP but their playtesters reacted very negatively so it was dropped. I feel like DICE/EA have always had way more spine with singleplayer than multiplayer. Multiplayer games have to bend over backwards to please extremely vocal fans. Singleplayer games can take a "Take it or leave it" attitude, especially if they're subsidized by successful MP.

It's crazy going back to the 90s. Rainbow 6 had female characters. Delta Force had female characters. The year 2000 had five different high profile FPS games with female characters in the leading role. Including Medal of Honor. After Halo and Call of Duty, the genre shifted sharply towards sexism that honestly was nowhere near as prominent in the early 2000s, especially since some of the hottest FPS games on PC, Quake and Unreal Tournament, had female characters.

Battlefield communities have been utter shit for years now. So no wonder something like this happened.

I so miss the times when all of us just wanted to have fun in the game. Nobody was whining about anything (or at least there was no venues for these sibling-porn-watching bastards).

EDIT.
After Halo and Call of Duty, the genre shifted sharply towards sexism that honestly was nowhere near as prominent in the early 2000s

Yup, console gaming was huge for bringing these twats online. Before that PC players were pretty chill, being "nerds". But then came dudebro crowd and the community turned to utter shit, just like in school where the meanest petty little closet furrys prevail when others fall.

Nowadays the fat cunts don't even have sports to give them pride, they only play online games and their whole identity is formed around muscular men, so they are really, really insecure and attack everyone who they think is a threat to peering nicely formed man buttocks.

Imagine being this "upset" about character models in a video game...

and if people want DLC to be free with no loot boxes, they're gonna need to make up for that lost revenue elsewhere. I assume that means skins, customizations, new models, etc...

These GamerGate (or GG-lite) morons don't give a flying fuck about an"authentic" experience, something Battlefield has rarely been about, no matter the marketing or silly delusions (so much of the Battlefield community in a nutshell).

Good on DICE for telling them fuck right off, which makes me doubly glad to have purchased this game.

AngryJoe's review of this game is out, it's not good.

The sales of this game are not good.

The biggest problem is the lack of content, not the social justice stuff.

Anyway, the reaction to this farce of a celebration is well deserved.

Same here. Maybe I'll get the EA sub on my PC. Driving out immature gamers is a very big plus point to me as it has always been a problem I have with FPS and their online communities.

There are the same number of maps as BF4 at launch and only one less than BF1 and there is plenty of info about what is coming. Yes there are issues and bugs but they will get sorted. They released a really fun game and are allowed to celebrate it.

These people are the embodiment of the Gamers Rise Up meme.
this definitely explains all of the Youtubers working overtime to shit on that game

EA has a lot of shit sticking to them. But calling out racist fucks who are outraged at females being in video games is just right. And its worth making fun of. I don't care about supposed historical accuracy, but if you do care about that, then limit your complaints to historical accuracy and move on, and that's why those comments are not up on that board.

As far as i'm concerned, all the outrage and foaming at the mouth at "SJW agendas" is just showing people's asses for being garbage and them being spotlighted is great.

Strangely mobile game reddits are mostly quite mild and informative. Some subreddits for tv series are also ok.

The bottom line is. If your one of those people offended at the board DICE showed off, your part of the problem. THere are no posts up there making fun of people simply complaining about historical inaccuracy because that's not the people DICE are trolling. They are putting a spotlight on the people who are claiming "SJW feminazi agenda!" and saying "this shit aint ok". And nobody should be mad about that. If your not one of those people, you should not be acting as if you are.
