The final analysis of the remaster package - on every platform and PC at max settings. Tom also returns to take look at AC3: Liberation, where the technical setup is notably different to the main game.

Visual:
- AC3 Remaster: XBX: 3200x1800p. Base Xbox: 900p. Base PS4: 1080p. PS4 Pro: 2880x 1512p
- AC Liberation: XBX: Native 2160p. PS4 Pro: 2160p (Likely reconstructing). PS4 / XBO: Native 1080p.
- Not a lot different visually besides resolution. Textures, effects are identical.
- Some visual effects like bloom are lower resolution on base Xbox compared to X.
- If you transfer save from base Xbox to X, you are required to download 5GB of higher res assets (DF theorizes it's just the intro video)

Performance:
- Despite lowest resolution, base XBO still has frame drops into 20's with adaptive vsync (meaning both drops and frames) bigger drops in cut-scenes.
- Pro tanks performance in one specific cut-scene with Haytham's close up.
- During game pay Pro and X generally run 30 with a solitary drop here and there. Pro runs with VSync On, X runs with adaptive VSync.
- Liberation: Every platform besides base Xbox runs at locked 30. Base Xbox has some drops during game play.

It would be hilarious if each game's resolution matched the year it was set in. AC3 would be 1754p.

Will Digital Foundry also cover the Switch version upon release?

What a weird release. Game isn't particularly well loved, visual changes seem mixed, performance isn't great.

Would've been nice to see it compared to the original release on the last gen consoles.
DF doesn't seem to do that I've noticed.

The end of this video strongly suggests that they will.

This is the second DF video on the ACIII remaster. The first one included some comparisons between the PS4 and PS3 versions:

If you consider that XBO was released eight years after the Xbox 360 this is really frustrating. The power difference should have been much bigger.

Can't even get a 360 game running at 1080p on the base Xbone? (And with framedrops and screen tearing too?)

Pathetic. Ubisoft didn't even try.

It's interesting that they remastered every AC game that released on last-gen consoles except the first one.

I can't help but wonder if an XBX-enhanced BC version of AC3 would have been better considering the graphics are the same and this remastered version failed to hit native 4K.

Oh come on, the difference is much bigger. I don't see how the hardware is to blame here, not by the performance shown on the platforms.
Ubisoft is not the first developer who struggles with the Xbox One S. Of course the hardware is to blame, using 32 MB ESRAM instead of GDDR-RAM was a bad decision by Microsoft.

To me not for this remaster, this is just a bad technical achievement in general with the way it runs on all platforms.
And of course in hindsight, Esram was a bad decision but Microsoft planned with 8 GB ram right from the beginning and thus they had to follow this path. But I also guess you know why everything happened why it happened, the hardware is what it is anyway.

Anyone make comparisons with the Switch footage to see if it is indeed closer to the original visually? Would be fantastic if so.
