Well, that's Epic...the creators of Unreal Engine. They know optimization.

Bluehole, well, clearly does not and it shows both in terms of performance and visual quality. PUBG looks ancient and awful.

Unfortunate. Really puzzling decision to go for visuals over framerate. Visuals add so little to the game as opposed to a stable and ideally high (60) framerate. Gutted for the XOX owners.
Early access. They are probably just trying to get the gameplay there first and they can tweak graphics and resolution later on for performance purposes.

4k and show what they did, means it's fairly easy to start dropping to hit a stable 30.

DF seems very disappointed with performance and how game looks (especially after devs teaming up with Coalition)

This is the least surprising result imaginable lol.

There is absolutely no need this needs to be full 4K on the XBX. Reduce the resolution for performance's sake guys .. come on. A game like this needs to be a rock solid 30 at the very least if not a wavering 60.
Agreed! It may just be a purely cpu bottleneck causing the dips though.

Consoles can't do early access games it seems. The concept is just too much for the user base to comprehend.
Early access doesn't mean immune to criticism. People have been harping on the PC performance for a long time now begging for optimizations and improvements while instead they keep focusing on adding to the game. You take money from a consumer, then you have to be open to critique.

People claiming it also runs bad on PC are lying to themselves. It runs on my 2-3year old PC on high settings at locked 60. PC would probably now be 700$ or something. It should definetly hit 30fps locked on X.

as already pointed out making it 4K has a minimal impact on performance. If you look at where it's worse it's the starting island and parachute drop (both of which function as glorified loading screens) and when you're moving fast because it's trying to stream content in. That's clearly a cpu/optimization problem as it affects both systems.

I knew PUBG was extremely CPU limited all along, and I really wondered how they were gonna fix the problem. The answer was, they weren't and they won't. I am a bit flabbergasted why they'd try to do so, because this is the result and was always going to be the result. A borderline con.

My PC mostly runs it at near max details at 60fps 1080p, but of course I get some drops - a few frames here and there, not too much, but some.

It’s gonna sell a shit ton, regardless.

I got my copy and am looking forward to it. Hoping the issues don’t significantly affect my enjoyment, however.
Not even the Xbox One is selling shit ton... This bad showcase doesn't help, especially for the Xbox One X. With Microsoft teams involved, i was expecting a lot better results.

The Ether
Early in matches I'll get pop in so bad that I'll run into a room and 2 seconds later a couch will appear. This is on the S.

The game is super fun. I think some people are confusing fun with smooth in the OT. It's ok to enjoy a game with shit frame rates and bad graphics. Us undocked Xenoblade fans are doing just fine.

Yeah I agree, but I guess the question is whether PUBG (which runs UE4) can be optimized to a reasonable performance level, or if decisions they made early on in development (before they knew it would sell 20M+ early access) are fatal. They must be rolling in money right now, so hiring optimization experts isn't beyond their means.

I would not say, 'no impact'. Yes the CPU is struggling, but higher resolution does have an effect as well. Hence why the frame-rate dips on the PC the higher res you go, with even beefier CPUs ten fold.
That's not how it works. If the game is completely CPU bound, which appears to be the case here, no amount of decreasing the resolution will help. I'm also speaking from experience as someone who had one of the worst AMD CPUs in existence.

And yet people seem to have been expecting more from the XB1 version.

In other news, I just fell off a cliff in PUBG while reading this post :(

It’s actually pretty much exactly what is to be expected since (it seems) the CPU is the limiting factor.

I’m sure performance will improve, it is EA after all.
But if CPU really is limiting it, how much can it realistically improve? I would expect at least a locked 30FPS on the One X. The One S footage from what I've seen looked like a powerpoint at times, staying at a constant 20 while looting.

That's a shame. The article about Coalition helping Bluehole last week was encouraging that at least it might be a solid port. I don't know that much about how the engine works but it would be great if they're able to off load some of the processes from the CPU to the GPU so there's more wiggle room for performance improvements.

Likely most of these issues *should* hopefully be patched out by whenever the console release reaches 1.00

I'm not sure how a game this twitchy and intense can be played at anything less than 60fps.

Some of the streamers act as such anyway.

Full 4k on xb1x is a waste of resources. Get the frame rate up first before pushing resolution.

Think about the differences in the games and you'll see why one performs admirably better than the other. PUBG has a lot more physics involved and a much larger map too.

they sold 25 million on PC. They are not anxious

They should play nice with Epic and get them to help them out a lot more with this game. Speed things up, and maybe even become more of a partner in this game than they already are (since they provide the engine and are by default sort of partners).

Edit: NVM, Microsoft got it's strike teams on helping Bluehole out. Give it time I suppose.

Another thing worth mentioning - it feels *HORRIBLE* to play on console. Severe input lag, a badly configured deadzone and jittery performance. It is the single worst playing shooter I've experienced on a console in the last decade. The interface and controls are straight awful.

They have so much work to do.

Hmm... average of 25-27 fps seems somewhat acceptable for an early access game for me. I'll have to watch to see just how bad it gets. Still think I'll wait for the PS4 version since I don't have XBL anymore... hopefully everything is ironed out by then.

I mean the X was advertised as the 4K 60fps machine. Then the narrative changed just before release at 4K 30fps, sometimes 60fps. Now it is ok 4K and "sometimes 30fps" in an online shooter....
Nobody should ever ever judge the performance of a machine based on PUBG.
