Yeah, Ratchet, Forbidden West and Callisto are the top 3 of the gen so far.

Spider-Man 2 for 2023?

There was no game this year on the level of HFW when it came to visuals. That game is just mind blowing visually. No raytracing whatsoever in the game either. Guerilla are wizards.

i didn't like forbidden west as a game but hard to argue with that really.

Honestly can’t argue with that top 3.

Also I have to give Sony kudos for having their big 3 cross gen releases have great looking PS4 versions. God of War, Horizon and GT7 have very solid PS4 versions especially compared to other cross gen releases.

Can’t disagree about HFW, best looking game I’ve ever seen. Looks insane on my C1 with the unlocked frame rate.

Yeah it's either Horizon or GT7. Both look unbelievable in motion and at 60FPS nontheless

This is such a fun list because I think all of these have very middling art direction and both Calipso and Horizon have huge issues as game. Definite kings of graphics aren't anything.

Deserved win for Horizon!
Nice shout out for The Witcher 3. It's so beautiful now.

Well the list is full. Oc DF tested them all so they know the best looking games.

It’s the clear graphics winner.

The character model consistency is incredible. The world is absolutely beautiful and it does it at 60 fps with really vibrant, clean IQ.

And it’s just an absolutely massive, very dense world. Perhaps to a fault from a design perspective. But the technical achievement is top notch.

Horizon Forbidden West is easily the benchmark for console graphics due to the visual fidelity and size of the world combined

It’ll be interesting to see what comes out in 2023 that can dethrone it. Especially as I expect Burning Shores to really dial up the action, too.

There are a number of more linear projects that are set to impress like Dead Space, RE4, Hellblade (prob not 2023), etc.

Spider-Man 2 will probably feature lots of next gen effects but I sorta doubt it’s going to have the character model quality or scenery of HFW.

FF16 might take the crown. That looks visually stunning.

I've seen Forbiddn West only through youtube videos, and i have to agree, open world with that level of visual fidelity is something else. Zero Dawn which i played on PC last year was already mindblowing.

After all the mixed impressions for Horizon 2 I am getting hyped again for the Complete Edition next year. The game sure is a looker.

From the games I've played this year it's clearly TLOU Remake.

Not sure how God of War Ragnarök isn't even in the runner ups lists. It's clearly better looking than some of the mentioned games IMHO.

Horizon Forbidden West is the best looking next-gen game. Sony studios are another level when it comes to graphics.

The fact that Horizon can look as good as it does, in a massive open world, during massive effects-filled fights, at 60fps is legitimately astounding.

Still sucked the 60fps mode was kinda "broken" visual wise at first.
They fixed in the end and added the 40fps mode etc. But by then i finished the game already.
Hope more devs add these modes but at launch also.

The thing is the Burning Shores is ready to be even more spectacular than the original game thanks to being unshackled from the potato. I have enevr seen such amazingly looking 3D cotton candy clouds in any miedia, let alone in video games.

At least Plague Tale got a mention. That game looks real good. Shame the raytracing patch never happened.

OP, why did you spoil the top 3 in your title? Part of the fun of watching these yearly videos is the actual countdown.

I wish the HFW 60 fps patch had come out when I was heavily playing it. Looked amazing in fidelity mode but hated how it looked initially in performance. After the patch it felt like the best of both worlds.

What?!? Lol 😂

Edit: For reference nothing wrong with any of the selected games

But as I referenced on the second page. Fortnite’s visual we’re in a different level to me. The fact it didn’t even get in the top 3, I though was kind of funny. The game looks amazing to me and is the future of this generation.
