I guess they want to stay focused on the gaming market and not spill into other communities. But as other mentioned there's already a pretty strong NSFW presence on a lot of channels, but not so much sponsored ones from what I saw where that's generally against the server rules. Still since it can be relegated to it's own channel some Discord servers still are 'open' to it, but this might change that.

All the same it's just for sponsored channels, which ties back to the Discord image. People can still do what they want in their own channels.

This wouldn't be a problem if they notified all their partnered servers tho. Apparently the new rules was only implemented less than a day ago.

permanent ban is also pretty petty for two people using slurs that don't reflect the community. It isn't like there were terrorist propaganda or something.

If FFXIV goes down then I guess the rest are going too. Admin's complaint is wholly valid, I've seen waaay worse on other partnered servers.

It's very easy to set up a bot to automatically delete posts with certain words and then send a warning.

According to the message, they had several thousands of messages with the word "retard", as well as other slurs left unmoderated. It reflects badly on the community and, in the case of partnered servers, discord itself.

A lot of servers make the porn channels hidden, unless you specifically ask for access to it.

I'm conflicted about the porn thing. That's their right, but I think there's a huge unnecessary stigma against it.

Of course, most nerd porn tends to be fucking creepy as hell, even more creepy than real porn. Little girls, rape, etc. Yuck.

But, FFXIV... Man that's fuckin' good. Not only did they sspecifically call out lolicon shit (lmaoooo), but also, goddamn! Love the hardline stance against slurs. Keep it up, Discord. You're awesome!

If you don't want to see porn...don't go into the NSFW channels. I mod for a FFXIV FC discord and we have it setup so our NSFW channel is opt-in via role settings so it doesn't even show up for people without the role.

Not sure why they feel the need to step in like this as long as illegal content isn't being posted.

Well, it's not exactly a hardline stance against slurs, they're still allowing them on the site, just that they take away partnership status for servers that allow them.

It was because of lolicon/shotacon content, which really does border on the line of cp.

Oh for sure. I mean a hardline stance when it comes to officially recognizing a server. This is a good thing.

I just muted the porn channels on the servers i'm on that have them. Though there also are porn-only channels like a local hookup channel i got invited to.

Discord taking this stance is just about marketing and advertising though, just like you cannot use Paypal on storefronts focused on sexual content.

Yes Splatoon has a decently sized group of horny teens and pedos in it's community.

As for the first one, haven't seen it myself don't hang around in discords like that.

It's not simply the contents of the channel, but the channel existing itself that I think creates an unwelcoming atmosphere for people more reserved about their sexuality, or those who tend to be objectified as in the women.

Hopefully this invokes less toxicity in official servers and letting the admins enforcing their moderators to do their job more seriously at times. I can see the reasons behind the change though I find it abit unnecessary to be so sudden, they should've announced this change earlier and at least let partnered server know ahead of time like a week instead of 48 hours to patch things up before taking actions.

There's several discord bots such as Dyno or Mee6 that can blacklist keywords so setting that up would be easy especially when it's free to implement to a server.

It's up to the community, I think having a pint sub Reddit can help with those gaming communities that no nothing of the opposite sex, but it only works if the community is already diverse of men, women, race, and lgbt.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if more Loli/shots/pedo communities have moved over too discord since it's harder to call people out on their shit.

It's largely to share things people like, or artist people wouldnt find normally. It's pretty much a collection of I LIKE THIS so people use it to see what other people like and discover new things

I don't know why a gaming channel needs to have a porn section. Just google that stuff, it's easy and everyone there already knows it.

I mean I see "loli shit gets banned quickly" but still it gets posted, because there's that porn channel, so you have to rely on quick moderation and such.. It feels like asking for trouble, with something that is basically the easiest thing to find on the internet anyways.

I dunno, I find it so unnecesary. Just make a whole discord porn channel or the hell do I know.

Not exactly, racism is bad 100% of the time while porn is not (provided it's legal, tasteful and not forced upon anybody). I do agree that it's not hard to just have a separate server for this stuff though, so I don't think it's a huge loss to jut get rid of NSFW channels on big discords.

Why is it that everytime something like this happens, it's because people are "afraid" of sex.

People are more likely along the lines of a) they recognize that there's a time and place for porn and it's not massive official servers filled with kids or b) they don't like porn in general and don't need it to be on display for every social media outlet they use

Some servers only show you a porn channel if the admin roles you. Some are simply there for everyone but have that age gate warning thing. It's like any other channel so it might be there but you don't see it.

It's an analogy not perfect. I was using it to explain why Discord may not care. In any case, 99% of porn shared is likely copyrighted so it's still fully illegal to share.

This only affects the big communities, smaller channels can keep their NSFW channels. The big ones are public and tend to have over thousand of users.
