It was a quick dumb reaction on Disney’s end that they refused to acknowledge was a mistake.
Disney: "Well Brett Ratner, Simon Kinberg AND Zack Snyder have turned us down :( We better get Gunn back"
Alan Horn --- the sole reason he got fired, contract ran out last year. That gotta be the reason.
Wow. The good guys won. One of my best friends from college died a week ago from a stroke, completely out of the blue. He was the biggest Marvel fan on the planet, and the biggest comics fan I've ever met. Today, literally as I type this, is his funeral.

Looking back, it's incredibly obvious that this would happen.
Zero movement on the movie itself, positive comments from James' brother, Taika saying Guardians 3 was "James' movie," etc.

It was reported that the person who fired him thought he was going to get brown points in the company.
Let's be real. The chances of Disney swallowing their pride to do this was slim to none.
The firing was done in a trigger happy mode, Disney could have handled this so much better. But hey, at least they worked it out, and we'll get a non-Marvel movie from Gunn in a few years.

In other news Moviebob vindicated. That dude has had "#RehireJamesGunn" as his Twitter username immediately after he was fired and even I eventually thought that was a lost cause the moment Gunn got hired for SS2.
