If anything, Scorcese has earned the right to voice his opinion. You agree with him or you don't, but keep it the fuck moving please. My God.

While I disagree with Scorsese and back Marvel on this, its time to just let the old man "yell at the clouds" and leave it be. He's old and earned his opinion.

Scorcese should just make a marvel movie.
A lot of people have suggested this, but thinking big picture the worst possible precedent would be Disney taking their most vocal critic and turning him into a company asset just by throwing money at him. It would be bad for art, bad for artists, bad for competition, and bad for critics.

If Scorsese came out of this meeting saying "I've changed my mind, MCU movies are totally legit, and BTW, I just reached a 3 film, $500 million dollar deal with Disney", hardcore MCU fans would rejoice while completely missing the point.

Is, Iger going to make, Scorsese publicly apologize for his remarks?

How many years of Disney prison is he looking at?

You all gonna look pretty dumb when it finally comes out that this was all a PR stunt for Scorsese´s Fantastic Four in 2022

Why is everyone so mad that one guy doesn't like comic books? These are not the films to draw a line in the sand over.
I’m trying to understand why people are so mad at the idea that people are trying to defend their work. He has a right to his opinion but the ones he criticized can defend their work. I’ve seen people act like Iger and others are silly for defending the MCU because it is so successful. It’s just silly.

These threads are always full of both extremes and people who ask why is it still going on but can’t help but talk about it. That’s why it’s still happening lol.

The movies are shit.

Television show cinematography
Recycled sarcastic humor in every single movie
Recycled plot progression that hits the same beats every single time
Rushed CGI
Boring fight scenes

And they're still raking in the dough. He needs to get over it or take the criticism to heart so they can make a good X-Men movie.
Rude post and full of hyperbole.

Iger's gonna shut the door, hand Scorsese a glass of $1k bourbon, and they're going to sit and laugh together about how upset people have gotten over this entire stupid, idiotic situation. Might even have a cigar.

this was all a long con to legitimize marvel's next phase as auteur films starting with some oversight from marty himself

Good for Iger to stand up for his products and the people that poured hours into making then. Imagine being proud of making something good only for someone to come in and tell you it doesn't count.

Scorsese's comments were completely disrespectful and the fact that he hasn't apologized says everything about his lack of character and integrity.

Bob Iger: How're you doing? What do you say I buy you a cup of coffee?
Martin Scorsese: Yeah, sure. Let's go.
BI: Follow me.

BI: Fourteen years in Disney. In Capital Cities for two. ABC before that. ABC as tough as they say?
MS: You looking to become a corporatologist?
BI: You looking to go back? I chased down some crews. Guys just looking to fuck up, get busted back. That you?
MS: You must've worked some dipshit crews.
BI: I worked all kinds.
MS: You see me building cinematic universes with a "Born to Lose" tattoo on my chest?
BI: I do not.
MS: Right. I am never doing that.
BI: Then don't talk about superhero movies.
MS: I do what I do best: I talk about movies. You do what you do best: Try to stop guys like me.
BI: So you never wanted a regular-type life?
MS: What the fuck is that? Barbecues and ball games?
BI: Yeah.
MS: This regular-type life like your life?
BI: My life? No, my life...My life's a disaster zone. I got a Star Wars franchise so fucked up...because its real creator is this large-type asshole. I got a wife. We're passing each other on the down slope of a marriage. My third. Because I spend all my time chasing guys like you around the block. That's my life.

MS: A guy told me one time: "Don't get yourself attached to anything you can't walk out on in 30 seconds...if you feel the heat around the corner." If you're on me and you got to move when I move, how do you expect to keep a space opera successful?
BI: That's an interesting point. What are you ? A monk?
MS: I have a woman.
BI: What do you tell her?
MS: I tell her I like 2001: A Space Odyssey.
BI: So, if you spot me coming around that corner...you'll just walk out on this woman ? Not admit you enjoy populist cinema?
MS: That's the discipline.
BI: That's pretty vacant.
MS: It is what it is. It's that, or we both better go do something else.
BI: I don't know how to do anything else.
MS: Neither do I.
BI: I don't want much to either.
MS: Neither do I.

BI: You know, I have this recurring dream. I'm sitting at Comic-Con, and all the victims of all the knee-jerk reactionary firings Disney have committed are there...and they're staring at me, wearing these Guardians of the Galaxy T-Shirts. And there they are, these unshaven people, because I found them two weeks after they'd locked themselves in their mothers basements. The neighbors reported the smell and there they are all just sitting there.
MS: What do they say?
BI: Nothing.
MS: No talk?
BI: They have nothing to say. We just look at each other. They look at me and that's it. That's the dream.
MS: I have one where I'm drowning. I gotta wake myself up and start breathing or I'll die in my sleep.
BI: Know what that's about?
MS: Yeah. Having enough time.
BI: Enough time to do what you want to do?
MS: That's right.
BI: You doing it now?
MS: No, not yet.

BI: You know, we're sitting here you and I like a couple of regular fellas. You do what you do, and I do what I gotta do. Now that we've been face to face, if I'm there and I gotta show you Black Panther, I won't like it. But, I tell you, if it's between you and some poor bastard whose happiness rests on whether a stranger enjoys the same movie as him.......brother...you are going down.
MS: There's a flip side to that coin. What if you do got me boxed in and I gotta get Denis Villeneuve to criticise the MCU? Because no matter what...you won't get in my way. We've been face to face, yeah. But I will not hesitate. Not for a second.
BI: Maybe that's what will be. Or...who knows?
MS: Maybe we'll never see each other again.

Funny thing is that the Irishman has some of those.

I mean I disagree with scorsece but this meeting seems desperate on Marvel/Disney’s side. I’d be more interested if Kevin Feige or any other directors met with him to discuss and get feedback on areas of improvement or what Scorsese feels are pre-requisites

I had no idea there were so many people in a rush to float the narrative that Disney is in some way “hurt” by Scorsese’s comments. Imagine thinking that the CEO of a company that employs thousands of artists is in the wrong for defending their work against a prominent critic.

If Stan Lee were still alive and some really well known illustrator was publicly complaining that "Comic art isn't real art. It's commercial trash that clogs up the shelves!", he might have something to say about it. And there would probably be less mudslinging about how hurt, injured, and sensitive he is for responding to somebody dismissing his field.

I love Scorsese’s movies but he kind of came off as a pretentious dude with his comments. And the Irishmen was boring as fuck. The actors’ performance was the only reason I finished that movie. Disney CEO should not be this butthurt about the comments though. This sounds like they are trying to get Scorsese to make a movie for them.
