Do women use their Internet-enabled devices on the toilet?

It’s no secret that 99% of men use their phones, tablets, handhelds, sidekicks, electronic planners, etc., on the toilet. I’m sure we can all remember our fathers and/or grandfathers on the toilet reading the newspaper. It’s very much the same thing as today with our electronics.

This morning, reading this board while on the toilet, It dawned on me that I don’t think I’ve ever seen or heard of a woman partake in this past time. I’ve never seen my mother or grandmother read the newspaper on the toilet. Is this something that happens and as a society we chose not to talk about it or acknowledge it?

My mother was basically computer illiterate apart from playing solitaire until I bought her a smartphone to use as just a WiFi device. A couple years later, and now while visiting I've heard her in the bathroom watching some foreign shows or movies while she's in the bathroom. She also apparently takes photos of food she cooks and sends them to her friends for some reason, but that's something else entirely.

When I close my eyes and really squeeze my mind, I can picture a woman sitting in a bathtub reading a paperback novel. I can’t do the same for a woman on the toilet reading a smart phone. I have lived amongst the women my entire life but I have no reference for what they do while on the toilet.

My mom does that... I have never questioned it but now that you mention it, it is kinda weird isn’t it?


Even worse is that she keeps sending them to one of my sisters who live abroad (she misses my mother’s cooking more than anyone).

I don’t do it either. I legit used to think that this was a movie trope until I found out that my family members and friends actually do it.

Now try the same for your mother. You can’t. It’s impossible.
