I think anyone who posts on a specialist gaming forum counts as an enthusiast.

Once you get over that threshold, you'll have certain power levels. Some people only play Japanese RPGs, others sit on the couch in front of a massive TV, others spent more time tweaking the games on PC than actually playing them.

Chasing 'the perfect experience' is an impossible task. You can get a shit hot gaming PC but there will always be room for better performance. You can get an Xbox One X but there will always be a better TV out there or a better couch!

I believe so yes. Having the best set up to enjoy my games, always getting the CE of every game I'm hyped for if available, always trying to learn about how gaming development works and always following video games news daily

Yes, I do consider myself an enthusiast. And I do seek out the best equipment, for my personal use case.

Maybe you don't have to own all the things to be an enthusiast. While nothing beats first hand experience (hello VR discussions), following the industries of your choice and discussing and acquiring 2nd hand (verified) knowledge is fine.

I'd say I am, but I don't really care about keeping up with the latest tech

I only got a PS4 last year and before that played tons of older games

I've spent a lot of the last 6 years playing SNES, PS1, NES, PS2 games I've never played before, and I beat 30-40 games a year easily

I haven't been buying or playing any games on dedicated gaming systems for a while now, but I spend a lot of time posting and reading threads on this forum.

So yeah, I'm an enthusiast.

I'm still rocking a 1080p plasma from 2009, so from a tech perspective, absolutely not.

But gaming is absolutely my passion and I go in deep regarding gameplay mechanics and the history of the medium.

(don't worry, I plan on purchasing a 4k set in the next year or two)

Hell no, i only care about getting laid and my super tuned cars.

I am a gaming enthusiast in the definition of being interested in analysis, game design and the industry as a whole. Plus pretty much everything else.

I don't care about having the absolute best audiovisual package for my games, games are about more than that.

Pretty much this. For some reason people are now obsessed with image quality, even if just to justify their purchases or whatever.

This is me most definitely. I upgraded my base ps4 to a pro for better performance and bought an ultrawide gsync 144hz monitor for my PC. When I play, I want the best experience possible.

I have a Sharp (lol) 1080p LED that is....sorta okay? It is 60 inches though and was a really good deal. It was not bad when I got it years ago. This was well before 4k was really a thing.

I remember I got it near the time I first moved into my old apartment and got DKCTF with it. I have fond memories of playing on the floor of my new place with my new TV also on the floor. It will.be great to see DKCTF on Switch on It!

But I also plan on getting a 4k ASAP! This year is my goal!

I'm so jealous of my bros' 4k TV. It is gorgeous, every game looks stunning on it. BOTW looks ridiculous on it. The colors, omg. I need that in my life.

I'd say so in many respects:
-I own and play on many consoles (plus PC and Mobile)
-I play a vast assortment of games genre wise
-I tend to like a lot of games people consider bad so that tells you my threshold for quality
-I follow gaming news
-I like making mods and trainers, as well as supporting texture/costume modders through donations and patreon
-I like developing games and prototypes as a hobbyist

Now with that said I don't view games as art, it's more of a leisure hobby for me to turn my brain off and unwind. I strongly prefer to play on easier difficulties and when those options are not available I use trainers and hacks. I am all about that filthy casual accessibility.

No, not by that definition. I personally don't care for the term "enthusiast" that much anyways. I like gaming as a hobby. I'm a gamer. But you call it what you like.

I consider myself an enthusiasts. But not by your definition.

As living in Nigeria doesn't give me the luxury of paying a premium for hardly anything. I can show my love by not going the most common route in my country, which is piracy instead buying legit games. Which is far more expensive than you think.

In a country where PlayStation rules piracy is abundant. When I started earning a little money, I decided to let go of that.

Being a Nintendo player in my country is strange, people seriously ask me when they see my 3DS, "do you still play Nintendo?"

I played almost all pokemon games till DS via PC emulator, well also most Gameboy and DS games when I was a kid. My parents couldn't afford to get it for me so I had to find a way round it.

With my little money started with a 3DS that's really not popular in the country and had to buy online, paying full price for a lot of games and taking advantage of sales. Physical wasn't an option, cost of buying physical in the country was way higher than $40 plus the Data to download.

Then got PS4 and could easily buy used games. Started a gaming website which hasn't taken off yet and hope to build on it.

And ofcourse am on this forum, after trying to get into the old site for years. Watch as many conference videos as my Data caps can allow, read about games I don't have income to purchase yet, follow sales trends and discussions.

So yes I am a video game enthusiasts

Edit : Also hoping to get a Switch soon.

Sure, I buy all consoles every generation to experience all exclusive games, and that includes a good PC.
I enjoy listening to podcasts and other opinions about the games I like, and I surely enjoy talking about games with people on my work or friends.
Gaming it's my primary hobby and interest.

I am pretty sure I have an autistic level of appreciation for video games, and I don't mean that in a joking derogatory way. I'm obsessed with them, and have been for as long as I can remember.

My setup is pretty standard for the most part, a big TV, surround sound system, a PC and a couple of consoles, etc. I do read gaming lores and sometimes attend gaming conventions, but I never collect anything. So maybe not really an enthusiast? But I'm passionate about my favorite genre, RPG. I play everything from turn-based to action, Western to Japanese RPGs.

Of course. I buy a new GPU at least once every 1.5 years and don't mind paying for PC gaming

Yes. But by the same token, there's no shortage of times when I put my head in my hands out of defeat as a result of the community or the publishers, or the games themselves, and just say to myself "fucking videogames...."

Absolutely. I've got art books, steel cases, soundtracks (digital, CD, and vinyl), books (extended fiction, game design, history), figurines, posters, retail displays, lots of games and consoles, classic games collection, frequently visit gaming websites, and attend gaming concerts when budget allows. Hell, there was even video game music at my wedding.

No. The last console I bought was the Wii. I have a hard time finishing RPGs nowadays, and I find myself juggling the same couple of games, making it hard to complete some.

The first definition, not really. I had to give up my interest in seeking the latest technology and equipment because it was simply too costly and I have to take care of other people's expenses nowadays.

The second however, yeah sure. I'm extremely into games and I enjoy discussing all about them. Plus gaming enthusiast sounds a whole lot better than "gamer" now.

No, "gaming enthusiasts" are too self-centered and elitist for me to want to be associated with them.

I'm a gamer — I like games, I play games, and I like to follow news about games. But I will not (usually :-) dump on someone for liking or playing something I am not interested in. I believe gaming should be something for everyone, not a select clique of "enthusiasts" who engage in an endless rout of "more hardcore than thou."

I'm bleeding edge. Playing the latest stuff like VR. Have played tens of thousands of titles. A huge amount of experience in games. I seek innovation over hype. I'm also highly knowledgeable on hardware and software - currently pursuing a career. Pretty good at building computers, overclocking, networking & such. Formal education in computer science. Just finished up writing a compiler.

Ran a weekly podcast & gaming website for a while there. Got review copies of games.

You don't get any more enthusiast than I.

In terms of money spent? No. I'm a cheap ass that is willing to wait two years so the game price can drop.I also used a monitor that cost me $100 back in 2014.

I do spend a lot of time here though.

I like games a lot. But no.

I don't want to be associated with most people who describe themselves as a gamer or gaming enthusiast.

To the title, yes.

To your first definition, no.

To your second definition, no.

I play a lot of games. I think about them a lot. I can engage in sophisticated conversation about what I think about them. I enjoy hearing about games from other people. I seek out and chase down games after my taste and to further my understanding of the genres I'm into.

Absolutely. I've been playing games since I was a little kid, and still legitimately have so much fun playing them now. I don't know what's there to be ashamed about that, because to me it's just another one of my hobbies.

I have trouble thinking that people who are only or mostly into videogame graphics as videogame enthusiasts, that's more of a graphics systems enthusiast.

I play and read a lot about the vydia so i think i probably am an enthusiast.

OP's definition is bullshit. Being an enthusiast is all about your enthusiasm, not your bankroll. You can afford the sickest setup in the world but not enjoy it as much as someone with a basic HDTV and a basic console setup.

I am definitely an enthusiast, I'll play pretty much anything with anyone. Been that way since roaming around the neighborhood as a kid, playing whatever console/PC/arcade cab I could get my hands on. I just love video games no matter what form they take.

I agree, it's difficult to see someone who would say something like "it's unplayable at 30fps" as a game enthusiast.

I am, without a doubt, a gaming enthusiast.
