Yep
Yep
It could be the fastest selling PlayStation ever by a considerable margin, but the PS2 kept performing well years into the PS3 due to the lackluster launch, so Sony would probably not want to repeat that slow transition again.
I suspect it will be around PS4 level of sales which will be pretty damn impressive considering stronger competition. I still think both will be just shy of the PS2.
What's crazy is that the PS4 is still tracking above PS2 launched aligned, is it not? I wouldn't be surprised at another price drop this year. It's way overdue for one!
Oh, I forgot how big was piracy in the PS2 and DS days.
Yup, it'll probably sell more than the PS4 but still under the PS2.
The COVID bump ended for PS4 in May and was down YoY in June. PS4 isn't outselling PS2. Sony has already slowed down production of the console significantly. The PS4 hit 100m units faster than the PS2 did- and this was before COVID started bumping up sales in the US. The PS4 will definitely pass the PS2 at this point. PS5 probably will.

Yeah, Covid is still going on. And PS4 sold less in June than it did last year. PS4 will not surpass PS2. There's a good chance it will be down YoY for the remainder of 2020. The Covid bump for PS4 ended after April (in terms of hardware units, which is what is being discussed).COVID is still going on, my guy. Sony had huge releases for the PS4 on June 19 (TLOU2) and July (GOT) and there is another 1200 stimulus payment coming by next month.
The PS4 is also STILL retailing at $299. Sony can price drop it whenever they want to boost sales, but they have no reason to with it selling the way it is.
Meanwhile Nintendo brought a DOA Wii U as contender and Microsoft completely botched the XB1. Sony had the PS4 hitting right with consumers on almost every note (pricing, content, services).
Its going to be cheaper to buy an Xbox than the equivalent hardware for PC this november. You cant fiscount that some people will buy a console even if the PC is also a supported platformNo Xbox console exclusives. How many want to switch to PC + PS5 with games like Halo coming to PC?

Also, there isn't a new stimulus check coming anytime soon. Negotiations have collapsed in Congress.
PS4 is way more succesful than PS2 though. In 2018 alone it made more money than the entire PS2 profits and PS3 losses combined.
July's PS4 sales will be lower than June's, likely significantly. And every month for the remainder of 2020 will be down YoY for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The only hardware currently up YoY on a month-by-month basis at this time is Nintendo Switch. And there's a reasonable chance that's not going to hold either.PS4's June sales don't fully reflect the releases of TLOU2 or Ghost of Tsushima.
Yeah, from a profitability standpoint, PS4 is absolutely Sony's most successful hardware.Guess I was referring to market share.
I had a feeling that PS4 was a WAY more profitable venture so I guess it was technically more successful lol.

So just so we're clear, your assertion is that the back to back releases of the largest Sony releases in PS4 history will have no effect on console sales?
