It's something I've been thinking of for a while, then this tweet popped up:

So I want to know... do you share your true opinions online? How often?

I'm pretty lefty and let everybody know it. But I also hate children and never want to have them, so I'll never share that with the southern conservatives around me.

Of course people don't always share 100% of their opinions online or offline. There's probably plenty of times people just pass on stating their opinion because they're not in the mood to defend a hot take or get sucked into a heated argument. People will also water down their opinion as to make sure it doesn't stick out as much.

I'm left but unfortunately in a mostly right area. It's leaning left more and more nowadays though.

So I do when appropriate.

I don't hide anything, but the same time I don't share everything because who the fuck cares about every little opinion I have. Nor do I need people to.

I think anyone who knows me on Era knows I'm pretty blunt with how I feel about things and don't really sugar-coat anything.

I want to make sure it's the right group that shows up in the middle of the night to drag me out of the house in my pajamas.

I don't have the energy to fake allegiance to bullshit to survive. So yeah.

My presence online is like two websites and Discord so I don't really have anything to lose by being honest about my opinions.

Yes, but only on discussion boards or chat rooms. I love that my opinions can be challenged, it allows me to learn a lot and grow my perspective. I also find it helps me work on my humility, I think it’s a skill to learn to be wrong, or to even acknowledge another side.

I stay the fuck away from Twitter, that place is toxic.

Most of the time I do. Sometimes there are situations where my opinion is not needed as a white cis male.

I don't feel like I need to have a "take" or a "public" opinion on everything, so I don't necessarily share my opinions just because I have them, but if I am sharing an opinion, it is going to be my "true" opinion.

I try to, but sometimes it's hard to convey what I'm thinking with words, so instead of saying something I feel could be misconstrued, I just stay quiet or say something else that is relatively close.

I wouldn't post something here that I feel would get me banned no, that said I don't think I hold too many of those opinions. But if I see something that I think saying otherwise would get me banned I just wouldn't say anything at all.

On other sites, I would probably speak more openly.

Anything I say is my true opinion however, there's a lot I don't say. Mostly regarding movies and video games here.

There are a lot of opinions that I keep for myself because sharing any of these would backfire my way in a spectacular way. However, if my opinion is shared or is sound, I'll share it.

When my opinion is shared, it is definitely my true opinion. Note: It's often not worth sharing nor is it a constant, I am sometimes challenged, reassess, and my opinion can change.

I rarely find that I have a truly original thought compared to people online, and their takes are usually funnier and/or better-researched. So I don't usually feel the urge to share mine.

I'm as far left as I can possibly get but I love firearms and think most people (of color) should own one. I don't really talk about it with anyone though as most of my lib friends would disagree and I don't care to argue the point with white people.

I don't share my opinion on instagram or twitter. Don't use Facebook.

I don't agree with a lot of stuff said here but I don't say anything most of the time because what's the point?

Era is really the only online place I post or share an opinion, but can't say I always do. Whenever I do post it is how I really feel though. I'm also happy to be challenged and learn from responses. But there is little room for nuance in discussion here so a lot of the time I just try and read the informative posts, form my opinion, and then leave a thread be.

Most often, yes. But sometimes I don't fully grasp some concepts when it comes to topics like transphobia or other sensitive stuff like that and I'm afraid to ask questions cause it makes me look like I'm trolling or being a bigot. So I tend to shut up nowadays.

The opinions I share are true. Though I stay quiet in controversial threads here because people have itchy report fingers.

I share them with my actual friends in our Discord, sure. Online? Nah, I don't need that heat. Sometimes I might have one view, then I go around reading, educate myself and my view changes, but nobody cares about what you did to change your view. If your view isn't correct when you first speak up, you're trash forever in their eyes. So no, I keep my views to myself.

On the internet, and particularly here, hell no, it's not usually worth to share any opinion. It's too much effort and people are only going to be excessively aggressive to each other as usual, so it's not worth to put in the work to get a slice of that pie.

The opinions I share are true when I do, of course, no point in lying.

I told myself I spent too much time arguing online or saying shit that was already said.

I post my opinion less often because I don't think anyone is listening.

Only one solution

Be more arrogant

Is it possible to learn this power
It's simple: calling k-pop, k-poop because you think it sucks is okay. Anything of substance that matters to people that you have a differing opinion on stfu.

Therefore I only use Twitter to complain to companies and read other people's comments/feeds, instagram to post pictures of food and creep on yoga models, and here to talk about mostly irrelevant stuff or relevant stuff where my opinion aligns with the rest of era.

I'm perfectly aware that I have some dumbass, barely researched opinions.
I keep those on the low.
