Wtf, this is pretty terrifying.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/20/us/bush-cardiologist-killed-in-houston/index.html

Dr. Mark Hausknecht and the shooter were both riding bikes on South Main Street, near Texas Children's Pavilion for Women, shortly before 9 a.m. local time, Executive Assistant Police Chief Troy Finner said at a news conference.
Hausknecht, 65, was biking north when he passed the shooter going in the other direction, Finner said. The shooter turned, fired two shots at Hausknecht and rode away on his bike, Finner said.
Hausknecht was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Finner said.

In a statement, Houston Methodist Hospital said:
"I'm very sorry to inform you that Dr. Mark Hausknecht, a cardiologist who was an important member of the Houston Methodist staff and the DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center, was tragically shot and killed this morning while riding his bicycle to work. Mark was a leader in the Houston Cardiovascular Associates and specialized in cardiovascular disease. He received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and completed his residency and fellowship at The John Hopkins Hospital. He is a longtime Houston Methodist-affiliated physician and has been in practice for almost four decades."

Just imagine working hard your whole life to go to college, med school, get through residency, become a successful doctor only to have some random stranger decide to end your life in broad daylight while you're riding your bike to work. Classic US.

UPDATE:

Suspect is a man who lost his mother in this doctor's care 20 years prior.

There seems to be a lot more to this than we'll probably know. Not to sound like a shitty conspiracy theorist, but yeah, this is super sketchy :/

What the fuck. Who rides a bike armed, ready to fend for their life ON A FUCKING BIKE!

'Merica.

Despite being one of the best medical centers in the entire world, that area is actually pretty rough. It's just a few miles down from reliant and OST. People not familiar with houston might be shocked, but UH, Reliant Stadium, the medical center, etc? Those are all built like right next to the most dangerous parts of Houston.

That's sounds like a professional hit. Scary. A guy with a gun in a bike? He also knew his route?

So he stole his bike? I thought the shooter had a bike as well.

Nothing about this hit is adding up.

What purpose does it serve to kill the doctor of a former US president, especially one who is over 90 years old and has been in and out of hospitals for the past year?

Why? Was this a hit?

The doctor wasn't robbed, there was apparently no struggle or argument to provoke a reaction, and the murder took place under oddly specific circumstances.

off the top of my head: angry spouse who lost someone due to the hospital refusing care, chooses to blame doctor he feels responsible. There's no reason yet to consider the HW Bush stuff to be significant.

The gun violence is kind of classic US. Dang, yeah I guess it could be some sort of hit, but doesn't make it any less scary. Why go out of your way in broad daylight to kill a doctor just doing his job on a guy who's been pretty politically irrelevant for a while now? Seems kind of random, why not pick any other loosely related person to the Bushes. Just weird all around.

What a bizarre story. It doesn't sound like a random crime, but could just as easily be robbery or an initiation crime or something, who knows. Awful news.

To play devil's advocate and not follow all the hit talk, I'm betting the doctor had a very expensive road bike, worth thousands of dollars. Could just be a robbery with murder added in to keep the doctor from just riding away.

Houston really is a third world country. 95% of the Houston and greater Houston area is pretty much uninhabitable. Not to mention our terrible infrastructure and now our annual "floods".

Did Bush say anything lately condemning Russia or Trump?

George HW Bush hasn't commented on politics really in quite a while. He's been mainly concerned with his wife's health and death and his own health and near death for the past year. He's not really fit or healthy enough to make public comments about things.

If it was targeted, it might have been for another reason than his history of treating a former president. No reason to limit your speculation to that fact.

Reading a description of what the shooter was wearing and the fact that he was going the other way convinces me this was a hit. If they find him, he'll be dead or conveniently shot to death by authorities.

Sensless murder. Thats all it is. How the fuck is a bike of all things worth killing someone over? It'd be nice to rationalize it, but alot of people simply die this way over inconsequential reasons in America.

What always gets me is this perception even people in Houston have of galveston. The seawall might be a nice touristy spot. Try going like 3 blocks in away from the beach. People would be shocked at the suffering. It looks as bad as any third world country you can imagine. And no, I'm not talking about because of the hurricane(s).

Probably gonna be something like a someone blaming him for failing to save a family member or bankrupting them for costing too much. Neither which would be his fault but you could see a crazy person blaming a doctor.

That or it's someone who knows him well and choose the world's stupidest place to get revenge.
