Yeah I was damn impressed by that episode. I'm feeling a lot more hopeful for the series after last week's kinda crap outing.

I'm very impressed by how they kept some pretty consistent narrative continuity without really sacrificing any of DW's episodic strengths.

I have loved these last 2 episodes, Like the bigger squads per episode. The tease of the Timeless child and The Stenza have been neat.

New Tardis is excellent. Biscuit dispenser is big mood

That was... all right. I liked it, but the threats have been rather dull and I'm not attached to any of the characters, or even the Doctor. That has never been the case.

And I'm really disappointed they're setting up the Stenza as our big baddies.

I'm surprised that this series has felt more Capaldi- than RTD-era so far. Looks great but quite muted with little bombast. Chris Chibnall's writing hasn't been a positive surprise, which is unfortunate as I think it kinda needed to be.

I liked the episode but it definitely didn't have much at stake.
The bioengineered psychic floating rags were pretty cool but extremely short-lived and not very well executed.

I am liking the new Doctor, liking the new companions but found this episode to be a bit lacking in... everything else.

The monsters in particular have been very meh. The Stenza being the recurring arc this season is a bit meh to me too, Tim Shaw was not particularly interesting and if they are trying to make this race memorable like the Daleks and the Cybermen, they are failing so far.

Next episode looks like a human villain too which again is very meh.
Me and my friend joked that he might be a space nazi going back in time to stop the civil rights movement and you know, that doesn't sound too out of place with the world right now. So hopefully some good messages will come from that, like they tried to do with the brief anti-gun stance this episode.

The alt-right must be frothing at the mouth at this show right now lol, if any of them are still watching after Jodie Whittaker took the role.

Oh yeah, and am I the only one who was expecting some sort of explanation for the Tardis' disappearance act? It was only the setup for this season...

I quite liked that, Ryan's comment "Why is it always ladders?" while looking down into the control centre seemed like a wonderfully British counterpoint to Indiana Jones usual quip.

Totally unrealistic, everyone knows it's all about fortnite now.

Maybe if he produced a ramp out of nowhere. Also, he didn't do as much jumping up and down as I would expect.

they kinda wasted ART MALIK there huh

decent ep overall, though I don't like the idea of the stenza as a major villain, sub-kandyman losers

also Yaz is once again "just there", they need to give her a personality injection stat before she ends up the next Nyssa

This series has started off very tame ... too take imho.

It's like the Beeb are trying to make it more "realistic", or something. JNT must be smiling in his grave.

It's like 2005-2017 was Casino Royale, and so far, this series is Quantum of Solace .

Oh yeah absolutely this too, when the crew was split up at the beginning of the episode I was really hoping for some Doctor/Yas bonding but there was none of it.

She really needs some time in the spotlight urgently

Yeah, Yaz needs some love ASAP. She's really underdeveloped right now. Which is what I was fearing when I heard about the bigger team! I'm def feeling like they should have kept it at two people.

So, bets on the Timeless Child being a Timelord ? Maybe the Master?

Edit: could be Susan, lol.

I'm definitely expecting a Timelord... Probably a new one? Or Suzan, yeah.

Meh on the Episode again, really need to bring in separate writers, Chibnall needs to back off the writing, Meanwhile I will keep dreaming of Phoebe Waller-Bridge writing an Episode or two.

Where did the Doctor get those Audrey Hepburn / Pythagorus sunglasses from, if she previously had empty pockets and hasn't reached the TARDIS yet?

It was an okay episode.

Loved it. Great premise that maybe sagged a little in the middle. I'm just happy with how well paced these episodes have been compared to the show in the past - nothing feels rushed, characters have time to breathe and the ending doesn't come out of nowhere. Hope that keeps up.

Really like the new TARDIS interior, though it's a bit dark. Love the Custard Cream dispenser!

After series 10, I'm not really seeing The Master coming back any time soon honestly.

It would be a poor move to bring the Master back that quickly after having two of his incarnations in the previous Doctor's final adventure. Especially considering Missy finally understood what the Doctor had been trying to tell her for all her previous lives.

Honestly, Missy kind of feels like the endpoint of the character. That's not to say there couldn't be other incarnations down the line (who's to say Simm regenerated directly into her, after all?), but it would be very, very narratively bizarre to have the Master return as a full villain after Falls.

I don't know if it was like this in the Capaldi-era, because I didn't really watch any of it, but I really liked the cinematic style of this episode and the last one. There were also some really nicely framed moments, like when Graham and Robert were talking to each other on the boat.

Haven't seen the episode yet but the new intro is awesome. Maybe my favorite out of all the NuWho intros.

Started off strong, then a whole lot of "telling and not showing" on the boat, villain was wasted again.

Companions are unlikeable since they just feel like an after thought with the exception of graham.

I'm not saying my highlight was the Sheffield green TARDIS
but

also sticking a biscuit dispenser in? Doctor's gone proper yorkshire

Anyway that aside, good episode! Jodie is still effortlessly fun and right for the Doctor. Hopefully the pace picks up a bit - both of these episodes... not so much saggy, but slower paced, and I think it just needs some where it kicks up a gear. We'll see! The production design though is phenomenally good though.

I like the new blue.

They're delicious, but you're talking an 11% sat fat hit per biscuit. Rinsing a full packet will take you down.

Damn. Well, it's a risk I'll have to take if I ever come across any.

Yes, they are great.

They're no chocolate digestive though, long time king of biscuits

I've heard of those before, but I refuse to believe a biscuit with that name could possibly be king.

Venusian Akkido!

Between that and the tinkering I'm feeling a lot of Third Doctor flashbacks.

Liked the episode. A little anticlimactic at the end, but interestingly mysterious up to them.

Here is the green police box in sheffield if anyone was curious, it's a local landmark :D Was surprised they didn't bring it up in the first episode.

Oh yeah, that reminds me, I think the Venusian aikido dialogue actually completely invalidated a Big Finish Short Trips story about how the Second Doctor learnt it that they literally just announced this week.

I found that to be largely dull and after how I felt last week I'm starting to get a tad concerned. Obviously we've got different writers coming, but we're two episodes in to what could possibly be an era that lasts years and I'm already a little bored but Chibnall's writing.

I saw a comment describing the episode as both overstuffed and understuffed and that's kind of how I'm feeling about the whole era so far. A crowded TARDIS is interesting, but I don't feel particularly connected to any of the companions so far (Yaz in particular feels very generic). The TARDIS itself looks cool from some angles but also overdesigned and extremely cramped from others. Two scenes in and the giant crystal pillars were already blocking a shot.

And the episode itself felt both thin and directionless and then suddenly had twenty new ideas crammed in to the last ten minutes, none of which feel overly resolved. The Doctor spends the first half wondering what happened to the planet and where everyone is, she finds out, has an argument with psychic toilet paper, and then that's it. And suddenly the two competitors who presumably have been against each other for years at this point decide to be friends because the Doctor told them to.

It might be pure coincidence but I'm feeling exactly the same way as when I watched Torchwood for the first time - I get this is still one of my favourite TV universes and all the elements I should enjoy are there, I just find myself bouncing right off of it. I've never really had that before with Doctor Who and its a very unsettling feeling.

The Venusian Aikido moment so soon after Capaldi brought that back was surprising.

I liked the episode. Jodie had the fire she so lacked last week here, particularly in the opening scenes. I thought the plot was pretty solid, the weird cloth things were suitably creepy, and Art Malik was brilliant and playing a massive arsehole.

My only problem is Yaz basically being non-existent. I like that Graham is emerging as the main companion, and the angle of his relationship with Ryan is interesting, but that doesn't excuse having dead weight along for the ride.

I'm also a big fan of the new opening, both the music and visuals are excellent.

Also, quite a lot of this episode looked really really nice. Some really beautiful shots of landscapes, especially.

Other then that though, this was another so-so episode - although I don't think any Episode 2 of New Who has been particularly strong, so I'm not too worried yet. I just don't feel like I've warmed to any of the crew, and I'm not massively blown away by the Doctor either, despite really wanting to like her (she's a local lass - Yorkshire represent). I had a similar case with Capaldi where I really wanted to like him and it just... never came. But hopefully she'll grow on me.

Also, I got strong Predator vibes last week, and strong Prometheus vibes this week. I like to imagine Chibnall furiously watching every sci-fi film he owns for inspiration.

100%. He wrote the only bad episode of Series 10 and it was perhaps the show's worst ever.

It's weird because his writing for Sherlock was good

And placing Robot of Sherwood between Into the Dalek and Listen didn't help.

I feel like there's a healthy list of episodes worse than Empress of Mars.

It was the worst episode of what was otherwise a very strong series, though.
