i'm seeing a lot of complaints about text size for various games and i'm thinking, why don't you just sit closer to the tv

it's not like the cord of my headphones can go much longer than one meter from my tv anyway

for americans, a meter is 3 feet and a bit

I sit a healthy distance away from my tv (albeit with glasses)...but when using my laptop/Switch in portable mode on the other hand...

I kinda want to be able to see the whole screen at once and also for it to not look like shit so I tend to sit a little further away.

I think I sit about that far from my TV and I never have problems reading text in games. Though, this does make me recall how having that exact issue with Skyrim is what made me buy my first HDTV back when it came out. Text was basically impossible to read on my old CRT.

I sit pretty far away due to the shape of my living room. I'd like to be a bit closer but such is life. Next TV I get in going from 55" to 65" though.

My TV's 65", there's no way I could even see the whole screen from only one meter away. My couch is about three meters back.

Those ranges are too big, and also it depends on the size and resolution of your display. There is a sweet spot for each size and resolution. If you sit too close, you notice imperfections in the image and if you sit too far, you are kind of wasting your TV's good resolution since you won't notice the difference in quality.

I did that for a while before I finally bit the bullet and hooked up all of my consoles to my desktop monitor lol

75" TV, I'm 9.5ft (3.1m or so) viewing distance. Optimal throw distance for 4K at that size.

I'm at my PC most of the time, and I have my tv (48") set up to the side as a secondary display. So I'm usually about a meter away. Seems fine.

I do, but I"m legally blind so I kind of have to. I'm about 18" away from a 30" monitor right now ...

55" Tv sitting 3 meters away. Would rather have 65"...I'm considering it when I upgrade next year, but I'm used to this and now I'm worried about where I would put that new Xbox SX if I had less room on either side of the TV.

About a meter away myself (55 inch tv) but that's because I usually play in my room rather than the living room since i live with my parents still, when i move out i will definitely play in the living room further away.

I'm not sure how far I sit but I never noticed text size being an issue. I get why it can be for others though.

My couch is about 10 feet from my 65" TV. I generally don't have any issues reading text in games

A full meter? Barely sit half that away from my TV. I see the poll and people are sitting 2-5 meters away from their TVs?????? No wonder I see so many people complain about text size, I thought you were alway just coincidentally visually impaired.

Probably 1.5 meters away, 46 in TV. It sits pretty low to the ground and I prefer to just sit on the floor in front of it.

I'm surprised no one's brought up that for a calibrated screen, in HD resolutions and above, optimal viewing distance is 2.5 times the vertical distance of the screen away. Also, while we're on the subject, your screen should be at eye level or slightly lower, having to look up or at an angle above eye level is what causes strain, fatigue, headaches, etc., and can be bad for your eyes. People love to mount their tv's above their mantle because I guess it can look nice, but it's one of the worst places for it.
