In Japan, easy to spot the Americans - especially the American travelers.

At plenty of bars during my 2 weeks here and have Run into a few shitty Americans. Was more than happy to call them out for being shitty Americans - one who complained about service, which was far more than adequate, and another who was obviously on a Tinder date, but was exhibiting the worst of us.

yo, call your fellow country men out when they are shitty - they deserve no quarter and do everyone after them a disservice. Wherever they travel.

Americans tend to have a decent rep as tourists these days.

Why don't we just call out shitty tourists in general?

How about you stay out of other people's business? As an American, your premise is totally American.

I've lived in Japan for 4 years now. The worst people I've seen were a different nationality, I'm not going to say what nationality because it's irrelevant, I'm not going to paint a nation based on a few anecdotal experiences.

British, French, German and Russian tourists are way worse than Americans
but the king of worst tourist right now are Chinese.

Americans' main hang up is that their expectations on customer service to be the same all over the world but that doesn't hold a candle to the other above mentioned

Seems like OP is American and doesn't want to be lumped together when a fellow American is in the same place abroad and is acting shitty

I had a very nice conversation with an American tourist the other day. I was wearing a hoody with Pikachu on it, and he told me he loved my hoody, we ended up having a nice chat. He was in his 60s but really loved Pokemon Go cos of his grandkids.

This. From what I've gathered from a plethora of youtube videos on it, American tourists seem to be as highly regarded as it gets.

And yes, this topic should be in regards to shit tourists from anywhere.

As a Brit who's been living in Japan for 7 years, Americans have by far been the chillest out of the Anglo countries.

you sit next to someone at a tiny fucking bar, you are in that business, regardless of how you feel.

As for service being “inadequate” - it’s not filling a drink, but patron not asking for it. And being shitty about it - Openly being rude to server, who was managing a bar. I side with servers 100% of the time.

as for the other case... it was obviously grand standing, and being a trump loving shitbag in an international forum.

Americans, don't be afraid to call out shitty people from other countries too!

Because shit heads aren't unique to USA, regardless of how many of this forum think it so.

Wait you called someone out for complaining about service? lol what? Who cares if you thought it was adequate. They didn’t. Unless they were aggressively berating or harassing the staff then you should probably just mind your business.

I’ll have to find some obnoxious ones first. All the ones I’ve run into have been okay.

You sound like an insufferable snob, OP. Would you act this way to local Japanese if they were doing the same? Stay out of people's business.

First, the bar can deal with anyone getting out of line. Two, why does them being American affect whether you call them out? Shouldn't you call out anyone being overtly rude and/or aggressive? Three, again, why do you think people need you to step in and save them? Like, did you really interrupt a date to dress down someone? You think the date needed help?

I'm so glad the UK ain't anywhere near Japan, because Brits plus japanese drinking culture is a recipe for disaster.
I already saw some drunk idiot trying to fight a bouncer in Shibuya for no reason, as if he was in Prague or Manchester city centre...

Or, y'know, you could be friendly to foreigners who are visiting your country. I guess it's supposed to be "okay" to be assholes to foreigners when they're Americans or Chinese or something, but I dunno, I usually try to make people feel welcome, instead of unwelcome.

If someone's being a fucking prick, regardless of what country they're from or what their nationality is, I'm probably going to shun them.

I've actually found most Americans to be very plesant. Not the old ones who threaten to sue for the smallest of things though ..

French I've found the worst, no concept of people around them.

I think with tourists there are always the embarrassing ones and the normal ones. As a brit I will never not be embarrassed by the state of some of my countrymen and women as the travel to other countries and act like idiots but I know fine well that there are just as many of us who are normal and respectful, it;'s just that we're obviously not as noticeable. And that's the same for all nations.
