So as far as rumours for E3 go, the impending announcement of Donkey Kong: World by Retro Studios is probably one of the more interesting and probable ones out there. As a DK studio, it only makes sense that Retro would be working hard on another game in their acclaimed series, much to the delight of fans around the WORLD. It's been so many years since we last saw Retro Studios, so I'm really excited to see what they've been cooking up with DK: World and to see if the hype was truly justified on this one.

Donkey Kong: World would - if rumours are to be believed - be a pretty significant departure from the previous entries in the franchise. Being able to explore a large world freely and use the different powers of the DK crew to battle enemies and find secrets could be a really interesting one if done justice. Having seen what Nintendo is capable of with Belda: Breath of the Wild, I wonder if Retro has taken some inspiration from that for their own game. I would love to solve shrines with Cranky Kong, figuring out the best ways to solve the puzzles, and I think Nintendo knows this.

I had a dream about Donkey Kong: World last night that inspired me to create this thread. Miyamoto told me I was playing the game wrong because I was trying to beat the areas as quickly as possible to progress the exciting story: but he insisted I should try to find all the golden bananas before moving on. I told him I thought he would appreciate the desire for different gamers to play games in their own way, but he stole the controller from my hand and showed me there was a golden banana hidden behind a big log where only Dixie Kong could squeeze through. I guess this means the game could also be taking some inspiration from Mario Odyssey? I certainly wouldn't complain.

I think we could expect to see Donkey Kong: World as a surprise announcement for a December 2018 release. It definitely seems like the kind of game Nintendo would use to wrap up the calendar year, and the open-world nature of the game (as well as being a long-awaited entry in a popular franchise) could attract new buyers to the Switch.

What do you guys think? What are you most excited for in Donkey Kong: World? Is it a Day 1 purchase for you?

I'm going to need some links, good sir. I've never heard of this rumor. It doesn't sound like anyone else has either.

"My imagination" isn't a credible source of rumors.

p.s. DK must never go down the poopchute that was DK64 ever again.

I just did a quick search, I don't think anyone on the internet anywhere has heard anything about this except for OP.

Ibis Island
The most interesting take was that the coconut gun that fires in bursts might be back for the MP. Having the guns integral to the gameplay would be quite the shakeup and a good way for Nintendo to diversify their portfolio in gameplay styles.

They could essentially make MGSV but with Dobkey Kong and that sounds amazing.

Isn't this the same rumor before Nintendo announced Donkey Kong Country Returns for Wii? I swear there was a rumor about Retro doing a new 3D Donkey Kong before we even knew Retro's doing a DK-game at all.
Like, this is so old now, it's now more wishful fan-thinking at this point like Super Mario Sunshine 2 and Melee HD.

I had a dream last night where mini IKEA furniture came in cereal boxes but I managed to restrain myself from making a thread about it.

Aw, I'm sorry you wasted your time on this imaginary rumor, OP. I hope it's all real, just so you can be happy.

People on forums have been talking about 3D Donkey Kong for years just because it's something a lot of people want, but there's no actual rumors and especially not an actual name.

So OP might be trolling, or they might be sincere.

Most realistic scenario is they're secretly a Retro employee letting us in on the secret, and come E3 we'll all be like "Whhaaaaaa???" ...... But seriously though, explain yourself, OP.

Why do people even want a 3D DK? Sticking to the Country formula is what makes these games good. Non-stop, tight and top tier platforming. All things DK64 wasn't.

Open world starring punished Donkey Kong with totally not an escort mission Diddy Kong. The over the shoulder camera, RPG elements, and hub world that leads to dungeons with linear corridors will completely change how the video game industry makes games.
