Yoshi's Island is the only game where that makes some sort of sense (within the cartoony logic of the game)

what about hammerspace?
I think certain games like Metroid justify the mechanic.

Montreal
I dont like it in platformers. It seems like a patch for bad level design in those games. I dont mind it in metroidvanias as it is used as progression.

Why can't I just stab everyone in the neck like Ellie from The Last of Us Part 2

i'm sure OP only plays life simulators and quits his games forever if he dies once.

What, why? Double jumping is fun, how is it a patch for bad level design? How is it different from other mobility options such as hovering, air dashing, or wall jumping?

Having just rocketlaunchered the entire undead army, it is quite impossible for me to open this gate.

it makes sense in hollow knight, since your second jump is achieved by using wings

Def like it when games attempt to contextualize at least.

There is nothing worse than the God of War double jump. Looks like complete shit. Didn't even bother to turn the second jump into a somersault or anything. Literally the same animation played twice.

A videogame move so satisfying does not need an explanation. It's powered by pure satisfaction.

Really? Last time I fell off of something high I just jumped just before I hit the ground and it didn't hurt.
