Yep they absolutely didn't Damascus commented on it. I almost wonder if it was done purposely since Wawa signed up super last minute but I'm super salty about it

A French stream followed and filmed Wawa. His match against ChrisG was really close and Wawa managed to nearly win at 1v3. Got hit by a close-up superdash. :(

Yeah they were. I was certain Sonicfox was gonna run in back, but every single damn match between them was so close. They're 1a and 1b (currently) as far as I'm concerned.
Wasn't able to watch Saturday finals live, fortunately I held out all day to avoid spoilers. That was some fun FighterZ, that SonicFox vs GO1 was the icing on the cake.
Didn't expect Fox to be this good, he showed a level up at Defend the North but that was against NA competition. Happy for GO1 he deserved this win.
Janemba looks sick, can't wait to see what he's all about. Something worth mentioning, the return of dramatic finishes! We haven't got one since the Base Saiyans release.
Not that it was expected but still, sad there's no patch coming... 6 months of Kid Goku, Bardock and Kid Boo is going to be rough. Really, really hope they reconsider. Maybe a surprise patch on Thursday with Janemba... It's the best time, 1 month until the next World Tour Event, after that the events are all on top of each other.
Bandai games were announced for EVO Japan but no FighterZ..., maybe they are saving it. Another tournament drama situation would suck.
I haven't even learned the Spirit Bomb stuff yet but just based off of how powerful that assist is and how abusable his Dragon Flash mix/blockstring is, this character is god damn ridiculous.
He's surprisingly really fun to play too, I would hate this guy if he wasn't.

Nah. Broly and to a lesser extent Cell are still considered really really strong.
It's definitely a con but the character needs to have other things to make up for it. (Broly's amazing neutral presence, Cell's massive TOD damage, etc.)
So honestly they could easily shoot to top tier with a few tweaks to either them or the current top tiers.
- Rekka 6L/M (overhead) now has 60% initial scaling, something that vanilla A17 had and was buffed to 70% in 1.15
- Barrier ki-blast now scales as 60% (former 70%), but we didn't get back the better combo proration it had before 1.15
When are auto combos used? I've been avoiding them when I'm practicing in the lab. But I do hear commentators call out auto combos while watching match videos.

Depends on the situation, but one very specific usage of it is if you need to get "pulled" toward your opponent, which auto combos will do in the air, but manual combos will not.
Auto combos also I think will do things on the ground that manual combos can't if you whiff? That I'm less sure about.

Depends on the auto combo, each has their own use. Some have built-in mix-ups like Goku Blue's or Beerus' auto combo. Characters like GT Goku and Videl can use them for a side switch. Zamasu can use his as a tick grab with an orb set-up by delaying the input. Trunks can cancel the end of his on one side or the other of a character. So they do have actual applications and some are used in combos.
Ones in the air are generally used to pull you toward the character. It's the reason someone like Base Vegeta has his ki blast loop in the corner. You can try this out just by doing LMH in the air compared to LLL. You'll easily see the difference.
Hope this helps and I wrote it coherently because it's late here, lol.
here's a twitter thread for some janemba labbing impressions
____
autocombos should basically be thought as normals w/ prerequisites (like not "on demand" as usual), and as normals that can be done after a whiff. since the latter hits scale like a medium hit they are very useful tools, depending on the character. the smash hit in an auto combo also has no limit, so it can always be used even if you already used up 2h, j2h, 5h, whatever. spamming an auto combo also will reorient you when ppl try to cross you up, making crossups that are too slow very risky against particular characters.
also as mentioned, j.ll gives you automatic vertical adjustment vs. doing j.lm manually.
Thanks, I think i got it down but the reverse Kamehameha stuff is a bit confusing at first. It looks like I have to do the Spirit Bomb super fast after the a reverse Kamehameha in the opposite direction yeah?
Looks like there were some other stealth changes in this patch. Most would fall under bug fixes like Base Goku's 214M no longer getting the meter penalty, but it's good to see when they're not tearing apart a character.

Yup, let's say if you're in the right corner and just after the auto-combo grab, this is what I do: 236S 8 > 3S > 236H+S
For the first reverse kameha the input could also be 236S and 7 but what I'm doing really is a semi-circle (23698) which is faster for me.
And yes the spirit bomb has to be done pretty quickly, while the second reverse kameha hits.
So, how's Janemba so far? With the work week, I don't get a lot of chance during the week to play.
I see there's a week and a half long Party Battle which I love <3
They also screwed up the Kame House, with the Party Match matchmaking. You can no longer just have it auto join you into a Party Battle, it searches over the various rooms for openings, and then disconnects you when it tries. Good job Bamco.
Bought this game at release and got destroyed by auto combos 15 ranked matches in a row and quit lol. It was also a very hectic game for me coming from SFV and smash as my only comp fighting games. Wathcing EVO got me hyped for some fighting games though so started with this and Tekken again.
My team right now is Trunks, Super Saiyan Goku and Goku Black. So far it seems like a good team to learn the fundamentals with. And I've been doing way better this time around.
Got some questions though!
1. Do Down + Heavy beat all airborne attacks and launches them? Is there a specific timing for it? Is there a specific timing for it to beat super dash because sometimes I get hit by the dash even though I press down + heavy. I assume I pressed it too late.
2. If I block a super dash can I punish it in any way? I feel like people just mash attack after I block and my attacks gets countered. To follow up on that... What is safe to do if I block a super dash or my opponent blocks my own super dash?

1. I believe it takes 4 frames for 2H to become invulnerable to air attacks so yeah probably being slightly too late. It also doesn't usually provide any invulnerability to air ki attacks, though some (swords, off the top of my head) reflect weak ki blasts.
2. Not reaaaally though if they haven't called an assist it is usually your 'turn'.
3. Ki attacks usually don't and there's some special exceptions- kid buu's stretchy air limb attack, most divekicks- that you just kind of have to learn.
Lol, I was watching AxeIce do this one. He just figured out how to exploit the CPU by the end. During your normal air BnB he would end with 2H instead of a down smash. Nine out of ten times the CPU would come charging in with a super dash. You 2H their ass, end it with 2H again, and repeat.

Yes, this is pretty standard method of taking advantage of the cpu, however, Janemba typically does his little portal beam attack rather than super dashing in the air, but Kid Buu will likely super dash.
Although, awesome, I was gonna ask Axe if he'd try the party battle, I have so much fun with them and I'm nowhere near his level. lol. Fun to see more Baseku kicking ass.
Oh and btw I just had this commissioned for me, Base Goku X20 kaioken (he added the red eyes, but I like it.)
Played a bit more during the weekend. Why did it not click with me like this back at release? Game is really fun! I probably spent too much time learning combos instead of trying to understand the fundamentals of this type of game and thus got owned by everyone. Still need to start using assists and get better at my defense.
But the amount of button mashers in this game... wtf. Played quite a bit of both ranked and casual and... They are everywhere! I can't tell if they are new, trolling smurfs (because suddenly some of them switch up their style and do some crazy stuff and then back to mashing) or just bad. "Hey you are across the screen but I am gonna stand here and mash my autocombo please walk into it"...
GO1 deservedly was crowed champion at EVO. Only a single tournament so not much to say. EVO had 12 different characters in top 8, isn't bad but should be a bit better. Fortunately no character appeared more than 3 times, so unlike last year we didn't have a billion Bardock's level 3s - I guess Spirit bomb's this year.
Kid Goku and Kid Boo are both on the rise and should fill 3rd and 4th place soon. Tenshinhan surpassed Gotenks which, you know, was kinda unexpected due to the status of the later last year. Just something to mention.
World Tour Report
GO1 is the first player to qualify for the finals due to winning a saga event. No surprise here.
Despite being this soon, Fenritti has so many points already that only something very weird would stop his qualification.
The rest, despite some players being clear favorites, I wont call out. It's still too soon and there's still 2 Saga Events to go, which offer a butt-load of points. There's 15 spots left, it should be a very tight fight for it. Hope some Japanese players travel to some of the Asia events, then it will get even crazier.

I haven't listened to the whole thing, but he talks about how counter is free and I'm pretty sure you can dash jump it. Can't test since I don't own janemba
