This is the MMO, right?
Yes.

Does it still require a Japanese IP to play?
Unfortunately, yes. However, there exist plenty of free and fast VPN solutions out there, and this should not be a roadblock if you really want to play.
My preferred method of playing on PC is to use the Amazon AWS method whichpeople have been using for Phantasy Star Online 2. You can also use a free service like Softether VPN, which many people have had success with.

I just tossed together a thread so we'd have a place to congregate and talk about the game. No point in a big crazy OT.
If you want your character in the player directory, just post your info here.

Very very very slowly going to make my way to this.

Work + backlog means I haven't put nearly as much time into DQX as I would like to, but I OWN IT NOW SO IT'S OKAY.

I meant to be caught up with version 4 before it launched, but I don't think I will be. I really wanted to join everyone on day 1!

Woo! I started up again yesterday. It's gonna take a while to get back in properly but planning a sort of Switch DQX LAN party with some friends over the holiday break this year where the goal is to get caught up if I'm not already.

My player info:

Still on Version 2... I'm progressing very slowly, a few hours every couple of months.
To be frank I'd like it a lot better if it was a single player offline game : control over the whole party, no superfluous systems that are just there to add things to do over time, less meaningless side quests... I can and do ignore many of those but I just don't like them being there in a clustery mess that confuses me every time I'm back.
On the plus side I think the stories are nice and the cutscenes well directed overall.

I'll probably buy the Switch version the next time I'm in the mood to play. Portable mode will surely motivate me to put more time into it.

Excited to jump back in, finished 3.x a while ago and it's been really great.
Renewing my subscription sometime before 4.0 hits, maybe even today.

Looks like last I played my level cap was 65, so raised it to 75 today with a friend and started on the quest to get the speed boost for the ドルボード. Baby steps, but slowly starting to get a feel for things again!

I wholeheartedly recommend this guide to everyone going through the game.
Even if you want to figure out the story part yourself (and with the story guide allowing you to warp everywhere it's super easy anyway), it's really useful because it shows when can you unlock various useful features.

Oh man, this really makes me want to dive back in.

My Japanese isn't really good enough - I still haven't finished ver. 1, I think I'm about 2/3rds through?

Everyone playing the game should get the free official mobile app (iOS, Android).

It allows you do the following things on the go (the list is probably longer, I'm not using 100% of its feature set):
- Buy/sell things on the AH. Selling requires gems which you get as a login bonus.
- Complete super simple weekly challenges to get prizes like lottery tickets.
- Play mini casino mini bingo to get real casino coins (uses tickets from the regular version of the game)
- Take care of your pet monsters, level them up, raise loyalty
- The monster farm which allows you to do the above also has a lottery where you can get Mini Medals/Metal Dungeon Tickets etc. I have a ton of them now thanks to this.
- Level up fishing
- Convert your offline time to rewards (genki dama, metal dungeon tickets)
- A ton of other things that I forgot to mention

As you can see, the app is a great way to multiple systems from the game on the go, without having to go online.
For me the biggest selling points were the monster farm weekly lottery and the on the go Auction House. The former allowed me to get over a 1000 mini medals, a few hundred lottery tickets and a few Metal Dungeon ones, while the latter was great when I was AH sniping for healing items for one of the quests. Since the price was fluctuating like crazy, being able to buy low despite not being in front of my PC was extremely useful.

It's really invaluable for monster raising. Loyalty is sooooooo slow in game.

The App is great. I use it all the time especially for item management. I do wish however that they didn't disable the messaging when logged in. It would be so much faster and easier to type and send messages from my phone than the Switch.

This is cool! I'd never seen that particular site before. I sure have missed a lot of side stuff.

Looks like last time I played, I finished 2.2 The quest I got when I logged in is the beginning of 2.3 with the dragon flute. Let's gooo. (yeah, no way I can be caught up in two days! haha)

So the download version of the expansion goes on sale at midnight JST. I looked through the official DQX site but couldn't find the information if we'll be able to access the expansion content straight away. Does anyone remember how it was with previous expansions?

I'm looking forward to the QOL features that hopefully will be hitting tonight for the Switch. I know there is scheduled maintenance for tonight, but I didn't look at the message closely so not sure when it is and how long.

I got my download too. I'm feeling excited even though I can't engage with most of this stuff for a long time yet.

I was skimming patch notes and there's quite a lot of changes/additions which will make life easier for everyone!
- Increased max level to 100 (I hope the quest battle isn't as hard as the one for level 99)
- Monsters are going to drop character bound equipment
- Bigger equipment and item inventories
- Improved auto matching
- A whole bunch of other stuff which was added, but I didn't read that far

Oh, one other question: if I buy physical Version 4 for Switch, do I always have to have the card in to use it? (If so, thinking I'd rather just download, in that case.)

I don't have an answer for you, I can just say that for every other system, the expansion installs and you don't need the disc in. I HOPE that's the case for Switch too. But yes in that case there's little reason not to just buy it digitally.

Yeah, OK. I bought it digitally and it downloaded in like 3 minutes, heh. That was easier than I expected!

I think I'm going to start with the new class for those sweet, sweet passives. After that both bags and maybe unlocking level 100 if it's easy enough. I wonder how long the 4.0 is, 3.0 felt significantly shorter than 2.0.

So wait, if ver 4.0 doesn't have any cart, does this mean that if I have the registration code for ver 4.0 PC registered on my SE account, if I buy ver 1-3 for the Switch I will have access to the expansion?
If I remember correctly, the problem with buying expansion for multiple platforms was that you also needed to install each expansion's data so you needed a disc for that.

Sorry for the double post.
I just realized that the new update to the companion app allows you to straight up pay (30k farm coins) to get a monster of your choice. Just like that, no need to spend way too much time in the game itself to get the monster you want.

Edit:
Not going to triple post, so I'll just put it here as an edit.

Played a bit today, didn't touch the story at all, but I was able to:
- Get the bigger item/equipment bag
The quest for the latter was way too long!
- Unlock the new class
You get 107 skill points so you can get all cross class passives straight away, which is nice.
- Finish the quest to unlock level 100
The fight felt easier than the one to unlock level 99, but still quite hard with AI, I used about 20 reviving leaves.
Also, the quest is supposed to be open to everyone with version 2, but there's currently a bug which prevents you from proceeding unless you have version 4. SE is on it.
- Got to level 100
I don't feel more powerful at all and I burned 4 Metal Dungeon tickets for this :(

Finally finished all of version 2. The last boss was more difficult than I anticipated for my setup. I never leveled up Anlucia, but I assume that doing so would make all of that stuff quite a bit easier. I should have tried that stuff out, but I have just been rushing. I kind of regret that now.

It was the same for me. Never set a foot in that weird dungeon before finishing version 2, which made the last fight harder than it should be. After that I ran that dungeon 2-3 times just in case and gave her some cheap level 90 equipment if the game ever wants me to use her again.

Is it just my connection or is everyone else occasionally getting booted?
You're in Japan right? If you're playing during Japanese daytime and especially evening, that's quite normal, since more people login simultaneously because they all want to check the new content after an update. It calms down a few days into the new version.

That makes sense it was quite busy and about prime time.

I'm loving the accessory drops in the new update. Very cool.

Does anyone know if they added a new storage (倉庫) quest?

For the record, the answer to this is no. I finally got around to loading up my Switch version where I got 1-3 free for owning the Wii version and the game warns me that I don't have version 4 installed even though it's on my account.

Thanks for clarifying!
It's so weird. After FFXIV I'm used to having to buy an expansion for every platform, but at least that game shows which versions you own for each platform. Is there even a way of checking that on the DQX page? I see only the base game for each platform and expansions without any platform specified.
