Man I just don't think I can do Act 3. I'm gonna stop here at the beginning of it and pretend I never saw anything after the ending in Act 2.

Maybe I'll come back to it in awhile but I just have too many other games I want to play.

Gotta say I got my 70 hours out of the game though!

So, I've hit a roadblock with the
Dora-in-Grey
fight as I'm unable to find any sort of strategy to reliably damage her (let alone beat her) as I don't have any way to survive her constant onslaught.

My characters are levels 31-29 with harder enemies enabled, so I shouldn't be underleveled. Does someone has any advice that can help me in this fight? It feels like a massive difficulty spike for what has been so far a very forgiving game, and one that has left me bewildered.

Probably should spoiler the name. People will probably guess something along those lines but...

Are you using Snap Crackle Poof? Do you have the (buyable, craftable, and one at least in a chest) accessory that defends from beguilement? If so, have you upgraded it/them (does more protection at +3)? Do you have people lined up so that less central members are more likely to be beguiled (attacks are less likely on characters further to the right)? Are you snap crackle poofing wrt this order and importance? Do you have ways to cure beguilement? Iirc sobering slap heals it, for example.

Do you have a multi-heal solution, e.g. Hustle Dance? If you are higher level, might have multiheal too.

Are you using tanking abilities to parry/block? Do you have your sturdier members further to the left? Do you need to use buff?

Are you using oomph? Do you have good attacking abilities?

Some of this is in the hand of the RNG gods. It also is a difficulty spike. But you can control the fight to some degree and (outside luck, which will probably play a role) therein lies your path to victory.

Thanks for the advice. I kinda neglected to use Sylvando as my modus operandi has been to debuff more tan buff, so I wasn't keen on not having either Rab or Verónica in the party in order to debuff the boss. But with Sylvando in there and a bit of luck (Managed to get Serena, Jade and the Hero pepped up, so I had my entire party buffed offensively and defensively for the whole fight) it has been a walk in the park.

Sometimes I'm too stuborn to change my ways I suppose.

Late game questions:
I've just finished doing the volcano forge stuff and have been told to head to the floating castle to fight. What level should I be at for this fight? Also, are there any good farming locations? In other DQ late-games I've come across pockets of areas where metal slimes spawn frequently but I haven't seen anything like that this time. I know there's a slime island but from what I could tell, there were just regular slimes there. I feel like now is the time for some farming but I don't know where to do it...

^ Metal King Slimes randomly appear in battle fighting mobs at your next destination. I must have gained 10+ levels there alone as I made my way through. Most of my characters were in the late 60s/early 70s when I finally got to the end.

Jade's Lightning Thrust nailed them every time.

Any general advice for Act 3? Where should I be grinding? And why is Erik's damage output so, so bad? Where on the skill tree can he learn to increase his offhand damage?

Edit: and should I try to finish quests and whatnot before I make a big decision?

I thought y'all were exaggerating how good this game was. I'm not too far in, but I'm definitely in love with it.

The designs, the gameplay, the whole world, everything is just fantastic. The music being MIDI pieces doesn't bother me too much tbh, but an option for Orchestral music would be nice.

It's a bit early to say this, but it blows my mind it wasn't nominated for the Game Awards.

So the beginning of this game is kind of funny
They tell this guy to go to the King and he's immediately thrown in jail.

Now I'm on my way to the desert after playing for a few days

Love the art style ofc. Been a fan of Dragonball over the years.

I've finally had a chance to dig into the English version a little via Remote Play. It works quite well in the new house, even upstairs. There are some issues with audio crackling so I've mostly been playing with the sound off. Just up to Hotto and the associated dungeon.

It's novel to see that in localizing the game they gave a lot of the monsters voices too, I'm so used to the bleeps and bloops that it was kind've a shock.

Beautiful Province of Quebec.
How many goddamn Hilpaws do I have to kill for the big guy to appear lol...
Everyone is close to level 65 now,I will try the second trial and the asshole in Battleground for Serena's boost and see how that goes before going for the big kill.

Question about the Casino in Puerto Valor:

I just got here, and I am addicted to the poker here. If I grind out tokens for the armor and weapons, will I be OP?
Nope!
Theyll just make enemies less harder to manage, mainly with strong enemies enabled.

For erik, max out knives then swords. Dual weild with him for best damag. He learns some decent skills in knives and sword; in the latter he learns falcon slash.

Remind me if wands give you magical might?
Cuz if they do, going double wands kindaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa seems beneficial if so :v I guess even if it doesn't give much, at least it boosts Serena's offensive a bit.

I finished the game(Act 2) with Strong Monsters.

That final boss was INSANE difficulty wise but I managed to finish the game without ever wiping, what a game. 10/10

I'll take a break and then check out the post-game, can't wait to see what it is all about.

I'm new to ERA as a member but I just wanted to say that I lurked through most of this thread and man DQ11 was definitely worth the $175 CE. I'm really excited for the future of DQ after the Act 3 ending.

I'm 2 or so hours into the post game and I just want to know one thing.

Do I have to level up everyone again? That hurts if so.

Also I finally understand why people were annoyed by the MC not speaking during Act 3, I assume they were talking about everything that just happened, haha.

Just keep playing, you'll eventually recover your levels.

I'm in the middle of Act 2 and I'm a tad confused about the villain's motivation/actions:

At the begginning of the act the narrative was set up in a way that the world is completely overrun by monsters and that humanity is just struggling to survive and the situation is critical, perfectly illustrated by the monsters attacking Nautica at the begginning of the act 2. It's the most isolated kingdom so it makes sense to assume that if Nautica has fallen, everything else is also controlled by Mordegon as well.

But that's not what is happening. Most towns are fine, just paying lip service to the monsters by npc interactions. Octagonia is ruled by monsters, and Phnom Nonh is harrassed by one, but that's pretty much it. Almost all wilderness areas have been raided by monsters, so it's natural to assume that the whole world is being attacked, but incredibly poorly defended places like the Academy, the Warrior's in, all huts that are in the middle of the road, etc... have been left completely untouched. Outside of really easy targets, most kingdoms also haven't been attacked as well, which is baffling.

This army can destroy an entire kingdom in one single day and has done so in the past. So why are so many places left untouched after months since Mordegon rose to power?
Does he wants to destroy humanity? Control them? Opress them? Right now the situation the world is in doesn't make much sense to me. Why would he attack Nautica if he hasn't complete control of the Surface yet? Why does he doesn't try to have control over all kingdoms when he is in control of one (Heliodor)?
I don't sense any motive or clear objective here.

Well, I finally really finished the game last night, main and post game stuff. Sunk around 150 hours into it. Mostly spectacular game! Wanted to share some of my thoughts on it...

-Unlike a lot of folks, I had zero issue with the music. I played on PS4 and it didn't bother me at all. Yes, I can see how some are going to be very unhappy, perhaps irritated by how much you're going to be hearing that overworld theme. Not even that bothered me I just wanted y'all to know I understand how it might become an issue for others. I liked several of the tracks a lot, namely the night time village theme, the Nautica theme, and the harp theme in.
The First Forest
.

-I really liked the individual vignettes for each major town/area. I felt those more fully realized the world and gave each area its own personality. I iwsh more RPGs would do that.

-Graphics are bright and colorful, fitting the game very well.

-I'm unsure how to feel about the post game content story wise. I'm not mad, upset, or angry at it. It just went in a bit different of a direction than I thought it might given that section's content.

-My one and only major gripe, the one thing that brought the whole game down a bit is that ultimate final boss. Just Jesus.
Calasmos is an unnecessary brutal and difficult just for the sake of being difficult final boss! No matter if you play on Normal or Draconian, he gets 3 attacks per turn, and they're al going to hit brutally hard. It took me a lot of extra time to level up to where I could beat him, far more extra time than I thought I needed and planned on. I can understand if they'd made it 3 attacks per turn on Draconian but on normal it should just be one attack per turn. The amount of extra time needed to level up enough to beat this boss can be a major time commitment in itself.
I finally beat him with everyone around level 82..BARELY. That ultimate final boss is the most trouble I've had with a final boss in...quite some time.

I'd like to give everyone some final boss advice...

With most RPGs, you can finish them comfortably at around level 60 to 65. That level with DQ 11s final boss won't cut it. My advice is going to be at bare absolute minimum get all 8 characters to level 70 and be sure to have Veronica's Magic Burst along with Serena and Veronica's Mighty Magic Burst Pep Skil-you'll need both, they're pretty much crucial here. Just understand at level 70 it's still going to be very turbulent and you're likely to lose a few times. If you can swing it, aim for level 80 fir everyone. If youve got extra time, go for level 99 as I imagine that's less turbulent and more breathing room. Also get your hands on a Pep Pop plus a few Elfin Elixirs for full MP restore. Finally, get the better weapons/gear and forge those all to +3. Here's what k did.

Go into the fight with everyone pepped up. Make sure to have everyone's tactics minus healer set to follow orders. This is the one battle you have to have it that way. Your header set to focus on healing to start. If you're lucky, the Hero will get first turn. Regardless of when he comes up, USE Sword of Light on Calasmos! It will weaken his attack and raise yours considerably!

Once the aura is gone, have Erik Divide, Poison Stroke, then Victimize! If done right, while Calasmos is poisoned, Victimize will cause up to 7 times normal damage...it can do severely heavy damage at that point! Next have Veronica and Serena do Mighty Magic Burst. If you're lucky, it'll blow off the Claw and Cannon. If it doesn't, theyll be very close to gone. After that use a few Elfin Elixirs on those two to restore all MP. At that point pop the Pep Pop off to re pep everyone. ASAP after that pop off Mighty Magjc Burst again...at this point Calasmos should be near dead. I unfortunately messed up and had to use regular Magic Burst instead the second time, I'm lucky the game let it fly!

By this point you should just need a few turns of regular attacks to drop him!
I hope that strategy will help someone!

The final ending credits were pretty coo!

Overall spectacular game brought down just a bit by one final boss! I'd still give the game a solid A- or 9. If you grew up with or love old JRPGs you owe it to yourself to play through the game!

This is from memory, but enter Heliodor Castle and take the door just to the left of the main staircase (do not go up the stairs). After that, Jasper's room is the first door on the left.

Managed to install v2 of the orchestral music patch on the PC version. Things are working smoothly, which is good. I put the game down for a while and had v1 installed, so I was worried it would be a hassle.

That said, I still can't get PS4 buttons to display to this day. I nabbed the files from here and installed Special K, but I still only get Xbox buttons: https://www.nexusmods.com/dragonquestxi/mods/26

It could be done in 10 or done in 70 depending on how much you do and how much you mosey around doing it.

btw, I'm kinda confused

The second act is before I defeat mondragon for the first time or after it? because it took me 80 hours to beat mondragon the first time, after that, don't know how long it takes to platinum the game

In the fandom, act 1 is before the fall of yggdrasil. act 2 is from there to main game end. act 3 is postgame
