I've mainly used Sylvando as (1) a mid-game healer and (2) attack buffer and status ailment healer. I don't think I've found any use for him aside from those. His damage output compared to the other characters was pretty lackluster in my opinion.

So Sylvando is kind of...lame in battle? Everyone else is ahead of him and none of his skills are super useful yet.

I felt this way initially, but I actually found myself using him a lot. His Hustle Dance ability is excellent for healing the group without using much MP. He's more resilient than the other healers, too.

Did anyone here buy any of the Bring Arts Luminary figure? I loved this game so much that I find myself wanting it despite not being someone really into buying statues/figures.

Hustle Dance is great; he can buff attack well too. Whip attacks can inflict statuses; wyrm whip clears enemy buffs, including pep.

I believe he can also just totally do the same status effect dagger combos Erik does, if you want to try to double up on that or something. That might be fun.

I gotta say, this is small congratulations, but given the state of RPGs at the moment I'm so thankful as (as far as I know) the game never does anything creepy with the fact Veronica is an adult in a little girl's body.

I'm 127 hours into this god damn game, and game refuses to end, haha.

That damn casino is at least responsible for like 15 of those hours but it's still crazy.

It's the opposite really. People are always saying she can't go into bars and stuff because she's just a child.

Made it to Zwaardsrust last night and I've officially been forced to mute the music to retain my sanity.

How many more of these "defeat a specific enemy with this specific pep power" sidequests are there? They're so goddamn frustrating.

Just switch out each of the relevant people when they get pepped. I didn't find any of those early ones very annoying; some of the later act 2 ones took a little more time but it's fine enough.

good prep for grinding strats too, if you ever need that

I only have five characters so far, so I can't switch out everyone I need to pep up. I've tried that strategy once but the protagonist got pepped up early and ran out of juice before I could get to the specific enemy I needed to Pep kill.

Protag actually has a skill on the bottom tree for pepping whenever, fwiw. It's the mystery panel and it's very easy to access; I think you'd need... 57 points, it included? If you have the money and this is a problem, you could just respec to grab that, assuming you can still keep the skill you need for the power. Or just wait till you get another character.

I did not realize that skill was so easily accessible till waaaaaaay late in act 2....

Not a ton, but they're pretty easy if you simply just wait to do those quests when the relevant party members are pepped up. Just swap them out until you find the enemy in question.

When do I get a sixth character? I imagine fairly soon if I just got to Zwaardsrust, since every major town seems to mean at least one new character.

Good. I'm feeling like the party is seriously lacking a heavy hitter aside from Veronica right now. Erik is surprisingly weak and Signore Italiano feels more like a buffer/debuffer than an outright damage dealer.

How do you have Erik set up?

He always did the most damage for me. Status effect target, debuff target, buff him, knife attack that multiplies when there's status effects. When Divide's in the mix, can use it to have a better chance of him applying the statuses and then again to do even more damage.

Of course, I often spent too much time caring about setting it up. But it decimated bosses, so.

Erik was my heavy hitter as well. Use divide with critical claim did a number on bosses.

Erik's Stealh Rock style move that punishes foes for like 96 damage each action is great too.

Oh hey I was forgetting about this games OT! Safe to expect a spoiler-free zone? Started on the 1st with the goal of putting at least an hours times every day. With it being the weekend now I'm sure ta get much more than that! Currently over 11 hours in and no Sylvando, I DO mind you trying ta force your way into the party! Oh for the days when you could reject potential party members and they'd be like "ok bye". um... I dun think such a time existed but still!

My poorly named hero's going great big huge swords all the way cause nuts to tradition! I always like boomerangs in these games so its a no brainer ta have Erik get some use outta 'em. I only just earlier noticed Veronica had a whip in her inventory but I think I'll ignore that. Kept her AI on "fight wisely" an its been working out for me cause I'm normally an MP miser which'd make regular battles longer/harder! I saw uhh I already forgot her name healer girl can use spears and I always like those to but stat-wise would she really be able to make good use of 'em? Also noticed those lil critters from the intro seem to show up around where treasure/items lying around can be found. Thanks lil guys!

man, I'm around lvl 52-54-ish and unlocking these skill panels are becoming a real slog. Getting pretty expensive too.

What level can I expect my characters to be, if I'm aiming to unlock ALL skill panels for them?

Is there a place to somehow farm for skill point potions or whatever? Or do we simply have to continue leveling up?

I believe you'll need to farm a bit for skill seeds for some characters as they won't have enough even at max level. Though I'm not sure which characters or where you farm them.

Beyond that, obviously you get more points per level the higher you go, so there's that. Plus it's not like everyone actually needs everything since you're probably focusing on one weapon. And if you're not doing so already, don't forget that you can use respeccing to be a little creative with what skills you have access to by going across trees.

Thanks for the reply. If you find out where the location is for skill seeds let me know.

Did this game take a step back in terms of inventory organization? Feel like I remember at least DQ9 had a command to straight empty characters pockets of unequipped stuffs, and 11's also missing cursor memory for the Transfer command. The lack of these things along with how laggy the menus are really makes dealing with items and the forge suck. And did I spy materials stolen from baddies in Eriks pockets instead of the bag? C'mon game...

There is, it's like a button press (triangle?) on a character's inventory to dump to bag everything but equipment and, for some reason, Yggdrasil Leaves.

Ohhh there it is, thanks! There's organise items in the top item menu and simply organise in each individual characters pockets. Confusing but it does help clear up the clutter!

A load of blacked out extra skills have appeared on eriks skill tree, is that something all characters get?

Hmm I got the boat and to the ocean...pretty fun exploring.

Going with Hero, Erik, Veronica, and Jade as my main party. Other two switched in here and there.

I haven't bought any new equipment forever...forging all of it. I imagine that's what you should be doing huh? I have like tons of money saved up now haha.

I suck at gambling mini games though. It's too confusing.

So I've hit post-game, but I feel underlevelled for everything. I'm about 51 right now, any quick and effective ways to level up?

You should look up the specifics, but the general approach is: pep power that boosts exp + pep power that summons metal enemies + pep power that puts metal enemies to sleep so they can be killed.

What's the best way to make money? I'm seriously starting to lag behind in the armor/weapons department.

Also, can anyone recommend to me the best weapon specs for each character? Right now I have hero using greatsword, Erik using dual daggers, Jade using spears, Rab using heavy cane, Serena using rod and shield, Sylvando using sword/shield and Veronica using heavy staff. I had hero and Eric using S/Sh and boomerang respectively for the Metal Slayer abilities, but metal slimes seem so rare it didn't feel worth it to specialize both of them entirely around that.

That's been my setup, but I had Sylvando on whip (and I think Serena on dual wands but that shouldn't matter too much). He mainly heals/buffs but can use whip skills to help with the Erik status effect combos if Erik's not getting that to stick himself, and so on.

I was never lacking in money but I very very rarely bought any equipment (so only when there was a big upgrade that was cheap enough to merit it) and just crafted instead, including upgrading to +3 as it became easier. Make sure you're checking bookshelves for recipes, and raiding everyone's homes and such for items. I've found pretty great weapons just sitting there in people's wardrobes... though I guess that one was from royalty, IIRC, but still.

So I've got a gap in recipe books, missing one right after the Drasilian Armor set.

Can someone point me in the general direction? Doesn't seem like a sidequest I missed.

If this guide I found is ordered correctly... Is The Dapper Chap on the other side of the gap?

If so, it's at...

How are you sidequest wise? I've done all of them so far bar the bunny suit because I don't like gambling minigames haha.

I'll need to check when I get home but I don't think so because that location is before you visit Dundrasil.

Same! Didn't know the bunny suit was in the casino, I didn't notice that in its prize lineup on first visit. Gambling means tons of saving and reseting which is a pain for when you're manually tracking time played, but if thats the place to get it then I'll just have ta get gambling away next time!

Its cheap enough you can buy it without gambling. I actually did it and then won 500 coins right after haha.

I just haven't made the stuff yet. Toriyama's bunny girl obsession is weird.

This quest for the painter to beat a spitfire with a certain pep attack is bothersome to me. I think I might be too high a level, my party don't seem to be pepping up all too readily in the desert area.

I finally finished the game, 100% of achievements, 140 hours, with Stronger monsters.

What an amazing game, it's probably the best DQ ever.

Finally defeated not one but two LMS! Then proceeded to crush the boss of the area in 2 turns cause I'd gained like 5 levels lol. Did more questing, now in an exploring phase including having now visited all the mini-islands and now finding an orb location blindly! New places, new baddies, all fleeing in terror from my overleveled butt mwahaha!
