Can I do the Royal Library on my way to the Hekwoods or should I wait? I'm level 34 atm. Also, am I under leveled? I don't feel like it but just wondering where most of you were at this point.

Thanks.

Has the story pointed you to the library? If not, don't bother. I stumbled onto that place first an went all the way through it only for nothing to happen. Then got told later to go there an had to redo the whole place.

Exactly what I was worried about. I had something similar happen to me earlier in the game.

Thanks a bunch.

*Edit: And no, I have not been pointed towards it. Just saw it in the background and decided to check it out. I'll leave it for now.

damn...i hope that comes to be PS4. I am 100 hours in lol can't restart on the Switch
I'm in the exact same position (100 hours), still haven't beat it lol. I'm getting the plat on PS4 and starting over on Switch because...man I can't get enough of this game.

But I agree and hope they release all of that stuff to the other platforms as well... but if I were Nintendo I negotiated that to be exclusive to the S edition. It's a good business decision, and I'm betting that (extremely talented) douche of a composer got a pretty penny for the orchestral tracks from Nintendo. Highly doubt Nintendo would pass it on as a nice gesture to the other consoles/PC.

Yeah I'm just hoping it's Time-based exclusivity. I just hit act three and honestly I wouldn't mind waiting a year or so to getting into it deeper so I can experience the act with a better soundtrack.

If I were Sony, I'd be pissed that Switch is getting the arguably 'superior' version of this game. I do wonder if Nintendo had to push for the orchestral soundtrack on their platform or if Square-Enix simply offered it up due to the backlash from the PS4 version. If it's the latter, then I don't see why the orchestral soundtrack couldn't come to PS4 via DLC later (or via a 'definitive' edition).

Double dipping for 2d mode. It's been a while since the Chinese version anyway.

Really prefer portable gaming anyway, and since Asia version don't have all the extra western Ps4 contents, the switch version is a great buy. Sony must be great that they got so many extras in the console western releases for a exclusive period of time Tbh.

I just finished the "mermaid quest" and did some exploration, arriving in a frozen place... but the story probably want me to go first where the mermaid said, so I should go back in track I suppose... :P

Yes if I recall correctly, you won't be able to progress far in Sniflheim without doing the mermaid segment first. You should go back and do it, it's a great questline start to finish!

Well I just got to credits. Can I turn off draconian quest now? I'm losing steam...

I really enjoyed the challenge so far, but there were moments I had to level up to get past. Ended on level 56. Does anyone want to say if the balance is good moving forward, is there even another congrats splash?
Oh yeah, if you're in the epilogue you might want to turn off Draconian. The game was super easy for me until then - it REALLY shoots up in difficulty. Like everything post credits is for the hardcore fans who like it brutal. Think I was around level 70 normal when I beat the epilogue, and still wasn't able to beat a few of the optional bosses.

Once I wrap up KH3, I really want to get back to this.

I know a lot of people said the normal game was too easy - does it stay that way throughout the whole game? I actually WANT to make it as easy as possible - would love to know that I can essentially beat the game without much grinding.

Any guides to "power builds" out there?

Just finished this game (pre post game) and I just want to say it was such a lovely experience the entire way through. I really did fall in love with all the characters. The acting was superb, the writing on the little vignette quests is the star of the show. So much life.

I'm gonna go back and do all the post game stuff, just wanted to chime in since the announcement and say this game is so good. It will stick with me for a long long time.

The game is quite easy on Normal. Very little to no grinding required as long as you aren't just running past all the combats everywhere.

Power builds are barely necessary since all the skills are rather balanced, but you can probably make some good guesses. Don't try and make the wizards or healers into physical attacking characters, etc. There are a few OP skills but honestly you won't need them, most of the trees have great skills all over. And it is DIRT CHEAP to respec your skills into something else if you don't like the choices you made.

If you get stuck in a tough battle and want to grind later on in the game (when it might matter more): just do the Hallelujah + Electo Light pep-powers (save first!) and you'll gain several levels in one combat and be good to go. Don't worry about it much early on, just sit back and enjoy the story.

Ok then I will go back to the main route! :P
Until now I loved the mermaid story, I am very curious to see the rest of it!

Is there a menu or list in-game that I can refer to in order to keep track of which targets I've shot so far?

Not that I'm aware of beyond the titles for all 5 in a region. Check with the region's NPC to see how many are left and then run through them all, stopping if you hit that number of new ones.

As others have said so far, the game is quite management on normal mode as long as you don't run past all enemies and spend some time upgrading skills and getting new equipment.

Some suggestions for abilities: Get Unbridled Blade for Greatsword users and Hustle Dance for one of the characters. These abilities will help when you're up against tough foes and bosses where you may need one more healer, respectively.

Credits are rolling! What an amazing game - haven't been this into an RPG in a LONG time. I think it's up there with some of my all time favorites.

Excited to play the post game stuff - I have no clue what to expect.

Copied from the DQ OT:

Alright so I finally truly beat the game at 150h on Draconian difficulty, aaaaand I need to discuss the ending. Be aware that I'm going into deepest lore shit here, and if you think that stuff is bullshit, you're better off skipping the read. I know nothing was planned from the start, but I think DQ11 was written to put some independent pieces together, and solving that puzzle might be fun. Obviously spoilers about DQ11, and also DQ1-6:

So what I got from the ending is that 11 is like the Ocarina of Time of Dragon Quest, it has some split timelines thing going on.

As I understand, when Serenica went back in time to save Erdwin, they created a timeline where Morcant never turned into Mordegon. Since the post credits scene is the opening for DQ3 and now we know that the purple haired lady is actually Serenica, I figured this timeline is DQ1-3, Erdwin is Ortega and their son is Loto/Erdrick. By the time DQ1 happens, Yggdragon turns into the Dragonlord.

As for the the timeline where the Luminary stayed and lived his life, I think it might have originated the Zenithian trilogy, where the heroes for those games would be his descendants and the Zenithian dragon is the descendant of Yggdragon. Now, I remember DQ6 ends with the birth of the Zenithian dragon, I think that was Yggdragon's egg, maybe?

There's also the timeline the Luminary abandoned (what a douche, btw), where he didn't marry Gemma and left no descendants, so I have no idea what DQ could have followed from there. This is kind of a stretch, but I suspect DQ8 might fall here, since this seems to be the timeline where the world remains more or less as is it, and DQ8's world seems to coexist with 11's, cause we see mentions of Trodain and Maella Abbey seems to be connected with Don Rodrigo's knights.

Now, one thing I don't understand is, why does the ending also shows the Luminary turning into the hero of DQ1? Was that just an allegory to introduce the series retrospective? Cause it doesn't fit at all, since DQ1 hero is the descendant of Loto/Erdrick, which himself seems to be the son of Erdwin on another timeline. Maybe it's some kind of reincarnation thing going on? What do you guys think?

I'm just outside Arboria for the second time and I've still got whatever the events in Galapolis and Hotto are to do, my playtime is already over 100 hours, don't think I can take endgame on top of this.. I've enjoyed the game but it's too long, even Persona 5 was shorter

Depends on how much you do but I think it was like 25 hours for me.

Calling it Act 3 seems more appropriate than post game. Lots of important story.

Yes! I cannot abide people saying that the game ends after Act 2. There it LOTS of unresolved stuff that gets resolved in Act 3! It isn't post game!!

The reason people are calling it that is because you literally get end game credits and booted to the front end of the game. It's fair to call it act 3 or whatever, but it's no surprise that people think of it as 'post game'.

(also is there a separate OT?)

I made it around 15 hours or so in the game in ps4, but I'm gonna shelve it until the switch version arrives. The soundtrack plus the 16bit mode is too awesome for me not to play thru that way

So I am 25h in and I suppose just finished Act 1
After the plot twist getting robbed by the villain in front of the holy tree, and now I am alone in the dark world.
Really enjoying the game, it feels like I'm at half of the whole story?
I heard there are "3 acts" so probably Im still not at half of it...?
Just out of curiosity... I also didnt finished all the subquest, I hope I didnt lost them forever.

You're about 1/3 through the game if you count the post credit stuff (Act 3). I just started Act 3 and basing what others have said here, it seems it's going to about the same length as the first 2 acts.

Haha maybe the developers shouldn't roll credits and bring you back to the title screen? I was confused to til I looked it up and realized I had to reload my save.

I mean, they do tell you it continues. They probably could have said what to do more directly, but the teaser makes it pretty clear that it's not over, hah.

Just finished the main story. Suffice it to say, in terms of JRPG's, this really feels up there with stuff like Persona 5, and I enjoyed it way more than FFXV. It's such a simple game too, very straight-forward in almost every respect, and yet it manages to hit way more high-notes than something like Final Fantasy. Very well done to that team.

On to the post-game!

Alright, wrapped up the post game, and got the platinum trophy while I was at it. An absolute delight of a game to the bitter end. This was my first Dragon Quest game, and I'm already looking forward to the next one, which I'm sure is still a long ways off.

I do have a question regarding the post credit sequence:

So like, as I understand it, this was pretty much a recreation of the Dragon Quest 3 intro? Is this meant to just clarify the timeline, or are they teasing something for the next game that I'm not quite getting?

I think it's just an homage to the beginning of Dragon Quest 3 where the mother wakes the main character up, similar to how Crono wakes up in Chrono Trigger when his mom walks into the room. I don't believe there's anything beyond just a nod and a wink to an absolute classic game in the series.

Man...the lack of a voiced protagonist is really bumming me out. I know DQ games have never had them before, but it seriously pulls me out of the story so much.

Absolutely loving the game, but I just returned to Cobblestone for the first time (4-5 hours in) and the blank stares and non reactions of the MC is just so jarring and ridiculous.

After saying I wasn't going to bother with the post game I couldn't help it and just got up to

Carnelian sending you to investigate Erdwins lantern

No idea how much longer there is but another 5 hours and it will pass Dark Souls 1 and FFXII as the longest I've ever spent on a single playthrough of a game
