they want me to make sword of light ,but they say I don't have everything I need... but they never explained what I need in the first place.
The thing that was tripping me up was that they wanted the specific orichalcum mining spot from the bottom of the Battlegrounds and not the one you can farm behind the locked ultimate door or one you steal from some random enemy.

Uuuugh, I beat the secret post game boss.
I farmed MP seeds because the fastest strategy was to Magic Burst the TimeWyrm to death and Magic Burst only cares about how much MP you had. I thought it would be pretty grueling but Magic Seeds boost your MP by 4, which was still grueling but about as fast as Strength Seeds. Spent all my money on Pep Pops from rebuilt Cobblestone and a good chunk of Casino tokens on Elfin Elixirs to refill Veronica's MP. Hero has to be there for Yggdragon's Blessing, which negates all damage, Serena is there as an item mule and for the final Mighty Magic Burst. Henrick is just an lightning rod HP sponge in case Disruptive Wave kills my Blessing at a bad time.

The first time I fought him, I got wrecked by RNG and the TimeWyrm went first and killed Veronica. She loses her Pep when she died and everything is downhill from there. The next round, someone activated Yggdragon's Blessing right away and everything was under control until...

... The guides I was following didn't get to the point where the TimeWyrm EATS two of your characters! Yggdragon's Blessing doesn't prevent getting eaten. You can't Yggdragon's Blessing with only two characters! When he finally spits them out a couple turns later, they come out with a bunch of status effects too, the ones not covered by Catholicon Rings. That part was pretty horrifying. Serena kept dying over and over and I needed to use a Pep Pop each time to frantically get the Blessing back online. Because of the reliance on Pep Powers, I should've just given her a shield instead of dual wielding wands.

Despite the touch and go, I managed to kill it fast enough to get the Accolate for beating the Timewyrm quickly. I wanted to laugh in despair when the TimeWyrm dropped two Skill Seeds. And then gave me an important item. That lets you... fight the TimeWyrm again. Oh, also the blue version of Jade's bunny suit from her Act 2 Character Quest. Thanks but I'm good.

I saw GameXplain's video beat it the intended way without trying to abuse the systems and saw a bunch of abilities being used that I never thought of. Like Kerplunk which sacrifices the user's life and revives everyone else including dead people in the back row, which Henrick and Serena both had to use in their fight, and Sylvando on Whips can remove status buffs and I never tried Sylvando on whips. There's no time healers to remove status effects and heal so the cure for ailments was frequently death. Might've been a cool fight but I'm glad it's over with all the same.

So... if I go back in time everything will be forever lost? Is this the point of no return?
Your main character goes back, keeping their levels and all party equipment etc. You soon link up with your party again, but they are back at post-act-1 levels. They do, however, get boosted back to a similar level to you shortly afterwards.

Ultimately everything else is a reset- none of the tragedy that happened along with the fall of the world tree has happened, and many of the events are truncated, allowing you to deal with them more quickly/satisfactorily. Personally I thought act 3 undid a lot of what I thought made the game and the story arcs of both the main and supporting characters special in order to avoid repeating content.

Just out of curiosity, when you all played through this game, did you always have direct control over every character in battle, or did you use the automated AI option?

At the moment I'm controlling them all because I like being able to choose which abilities to use and when, but I'm starting to wonder if I should maybe let the AI take over for a bit.

The more I type this, the more I realise what a ridiculous question this sounds as I realise it will just come down to personal preference haha

I used mostly Auto Battle. I assumed control for boss fights, but after some time, I didnt even disable them for boss fights until Act 3.

Yeah I mostly used 'fight wisely' apart from boss fights, metal slimes, tough enemies in new areas.

I did the same with 4/5/6/7/8 too, it's probably the only JRPG where I like the AI settings as it often shows more efficient ways to deal with mixed enemy groups.

I've done it while farming for items with school uniforms and Happy Hats. When I'm running through the area normally, I play out the encounters with new enemies normally. In retrospect, I probably could've done this while searching for rare monsters too (pretty sure I didn't need to manually control killing 94 Iron Maidens) but I had forgotten it was an option.

Congrats! I was happy when I got him, but turns out I wasn't fast enough for the purple accolade (there's two speed-related Timewyrm accolades). I'm gonna try with a Hero/Veronica/Erik/Sylv set up with the last two on an envenoming spree. I just hope Shypox and Super Shypox won't mess me up too much.

Getting back into it, think I'm a decent way through Part 2, hopefully will wrap it up soon. Was lucky enough to get the roulette jackpot my very first roll. Nice piece of random luck

Thanks for all your replies above ^

This morning I've started using automatic battling whilst out in the field and what a difference! It certainly makes the grinding a lot more tolerable and enjoyable. Plus they seem to fight a lot better than I do if I was controlling them all myself..

Also, I love Sylvando.

I hate letting the ai control my characters in these kinds of games. It's one thing if I'm grinding for a rare monster to spawn, but even then I generally prefer to do it manually.

Trying to remember from last year :

Is Slime Island near Lonalulu worth spending time on when you first get there?

When do the slot machines in the back of the Puerto Valor casino open?

Am I missing something or the game doesn't give any kind of informstion regarding elemental weakness and resistances for the enemies?!

You should go do those cutscenes now (at Last Bastion, Dundrasil, Puerto Valor, and Erik and Mia's shelter), but even if you don't, I believe they're added to the cutscene viewer at the academy's yggdrasil root.

Other than that, there's not much to do beyond advancing the plot, unless you want to talk to NPCs.

they don't, as far as I know. really annoying because elemental weaknesses aren't taught and they aren't telegraphed well. hell the whole "certain attacks do better against certain enemies" really isn't explained well either. some are obvious like flying enemies, but it gets more ambiguous for others (like what constitutes as a beast or demon, etc)

The bestiary does indicate what enemy type everything is, although you do have to have defeated it once. No information about elemental weaknesses though short of experimentation.

Yes, totally. I can see how some attacks from my party may be effective against some type of enemies like the flying ones, but I really don't know when to use a fire spell, an ice spell or a thunder spell in any case. It's baffling to me because a simple text saying "effective!" or something like that over the enemy would solve this issue and would make the combats more tactic.

Same goes for some debuffs, I think there are enemies and bosses immune to sleep or poison for example but the game doesn't give you any feedback and you don't know if you missed the attack or it's just the enemy that is immune to that status effect.

There are a lot of RPGs that solved this issue in many different ways... but DQ XI didnt even try.

It's Mordegon time! Time to bop this evil lord in the head. After that, time for post game. There's so much I need to do in Act 3 lol. I think the first thing I'll do is grind to level 99 and farm seeds of skill.

Some of these later bosses are bullshit. They keep targeting one character and don't give me a chance to heal before they die.

Now that I'm done with Act 2, on to Act 3. I know there's a certain decision you have to make. Can I grind to level 99 before that decision? I want to get the grind done early.

Due to how you transition to Act 3, I reccomend against it.
The only character that will keep any progression will be your main character, so you are better off waiting until you get there first.

I haven't really posted here because I go through games hella slow and want to avoid spoilers but, damn, this is the first time I've been really "hooked" to a game for a long time. Like, I'm about 20 hours in, middle of the first act, and stopped a few days ago right before the MMA stuff started.
So today I figured, okay, finish off that story beat. So I did... and then I said, may as well go to the next spot and recruit my new party members. I had already explored that area, so no big deal. But then I get there and I'm like, okay, may as well finish off this story beat. And then we're going out into the open ocean so I say, may as well wrap up some loose ends here, fill out my monster codex, wrap up some side quests. And then I say, hey, may as well knock off Puerto Valor while I'm here. And then I said, hey, may as well pop into the casino...

And after 5-6 hours of playtime I'm out of the Inner Sea with a Platinum Sword and my eyes are hella tired. I was tempted to keep going at the Strand since I like to close out at a church, but... man, you've gotta cut it off at some point!

Finished up Act 3 in the low 70s with a little over 100 hours clocked. Completed most of the sidequests, though I haven't done the last Wheel of Harma or the last two Drustan bosses. Bestiary is missing a little under a hundred monsters. Still haven't done much with the casino, though I did do the jackpot sidequest somehow. Might wrap up some of the Tickington stuff, but I think I've had my fill with this for the most part - I don't see much of a point in going to 99. Stellar game, 10/10.
I think what Act 3 needed to do was sell the corrupting influence of Calasmos as different from that of Mordegon, but still dangerous. It's hard to do when it's supposed to be golden timeline without anything wrong, and I think they did a decent job with coming up with new challenges given the constraints of being a postgame (no new areas, story events won't necessarily be completed), but even within that context, the story for it is definitely the weak link, particularly coming off of Act 2. I kind of wish the ending, at least, addressed Act 2 in any way - the party members in Act 3 are all continually astounded and feeling a sense of deja vu by the Luminary's direction when fighting Jasper, summoning Cetacea, ascending the Tower of Lost Time, making a redundant Sword of Light, etc, and it does feel cheap to give them their levels and skill trees from Act 2 without them having "earned" them in Act 3, so to speak. Considering how much of the heavy lifting they do in terms of the plot, the rest of the party definitely deserved to have their memories restored.

can anyone give me some advice on where i can find the second tickington location for dqx?

Apologies for not being able to give a straightforward answer, but any pastwords that aren't found in Erdrea can be found by completing the Tickington quests, just not sure which ones exactly.

If you are slow then I don't know wtf I am. After last night my save is at 26 hours and I just beat the mma/cave thing. The only time I really grinded was trying to get golden globules in that cactus sidequest. Took ages.

An I under leveled for Act 3? I just
got everyone powered back up at the watcher town, I went back to cobblestone and was reclimbing the tor to see if there was anything new, ran into a Malicious Hades boss harassing Derk, and got slaughtered in a few rounds.

My party is low 50's

Whilst I have yet to reach Act III in Dragon Quest XI S, I did reach Act III in the Steam version of Dragon Quest XI. And based on that, yeah you're definitely underlevelled.

The feel when you try to not over level and end up under leveled lol.

Guess I'll need to do that metal slime grind trick to get a dozen levels or so later.

I was in the low 50s when I started act 3 as well. I didn't grind, but the way I tackled it was to try different fights to see which ones I was able to beat, and then go back to the more difficult ones later on.

Erik's Divide into Victimizer combo is so damn satisfying. Dealt about 4000 damage to some bosses towards the end of Act 2 with that (with a Sap on the boss and an Oomphle on Erik). There's probably better burst damage combos if you're optimizing but that's a fun one.

I love this game. It's so charming, I love the world, the cast, the creative monster designs, the puns, the pretty visuals, all the QOL features, it's seriously great and my favorite JRPG since the original Xenoblade Chronicles, but three things are bugging me:
  • The music. Not enough variety and too repetitive, it doesn't do all these beautiful, distinct locales justice. I can only imagine how terrible the midi soundtrack in the original release must be. Fire Sugiyama for the next title, please.
  • Draconian is not well balanced. Normal enemies are still piss easy but every boss is like a sledgehammer on game progression.
  • The inconsistency and sexualization of Jade. In cutscenes she's a stoic, calm warrior princess but her moveset is weirdly "sexy" with butt attacks, throwing kisses and sexy bunny costumes special attacks. Her design also doesn't suit the character at all. It's just glaring and why I barely use her. She sticks out like a sore thumb in the cast. Especially compared to Sylvando, he's flirty and flamboyant and throws kisses and hearts in battle just like Jade, but unlike with her, it suits him perfectly.
It's a wonderful game but not without its annoyances.
THANK YOU! I love this game but this is really annoying me. Especially on one specific part of the game where she acts so "un-jade-y"

Dows anyone know of the best mp regeneration items I can acquire near end act 2?
Are Happy Hats available in Octogania?
Not the normal shop, the casino. That's for outside of battle though. Otherwise I was wearing Jade's Belle Bow for a good while in Act 3 but that's a sidequest reward so not hard to miss.
