why does the king get this massive tent all on his own when there is a nurse in the very same area complaining they dont have enough beds to keep the wounded.
Even when not possessed the guy is an asshole
Reading the book in the castle he is Feared & Loved by his own people so yeah he's not a super nice guy.

I'm running an all-girl party at the moment, save for Hero in the #1 slot. Got them all wearing the same outfit too. It's adorable.

But yeah, it doesn't seem to matter who you've got for most battles since you can switch them out whenever. I just make sure to have at least a healer at all times, but other than that, let your heart be your guide...

Until it kills you. Then maybe be a bit more strategic.

My heart tells me that Sylvando will forever always be by my side because I love him.

I've noticed this game has been hanging in there on the US eshop best seller's list. It's about to finally get pushed off. Dunno what that really means, but hopefully it means the game is selling well enough digitally.

Just finished beating the
giant squid thing, Tentacular?

That was the first time I actually had to think what I was doing and almost came close to dying haha

I managed to scrape through, though.

Okay I've made it to the real version of the second casino now - I remember a lot of talk about a side quest to get a roulette jackpot, where do you pick that one up? I can't find any side quests in the whole town.

Does this game support cloud saves on the Switch version? I'm thinking about double dipping.

I don't think the quest available until Act 3 but you walk up the stairs in the middle to the VIP area. You have to talk to a little girl in front who gives you 3000 coins first.

Did the first Dragon Quest 7 related quest in Tockie village. Very cool to see the map recreated in 2D, nice to relive the story of Maeve and her Darby O'Gill sounding buddies.

I'll ask this again: is there any guide for the Tickington sidequests? I remember a spreadsheet with a guide but I can't seem to find it.

Are these little stories starting with Slyvando in act 2 and going through each of the characters additional content for the S version? I remember they said they added something like this. I can't imagine not seeing these.

I don't think anyone's made one yet. The quests are pretty easy to do but if you're having trouble I'll do my best to help. Prioritise the dungeon crawl ones first so you can narrow down to the less straightforward ones.

I've tried a couple but I keep getting stuck. Maybe I'm just really bad at them.

A good number of them has you visiting other locations. If there's nothing you can do in the place you picked the quest from to advance, try jumping to other worlds. If that doesn't help, let me know which quests you're really stuck on.

Now that I've finally finished Dragon Quest III (What an absolutely wonderful game), I can finally start this properly. I've continued where I left off in the demo but I'm now wondering if I should start over with the super strong monsters modifier.

I've already finished this game (fully) last year, so I know what is in store and I remember some of the fights in Act 3 being really tough on the the default difficulty. So, to anyone who has finished the game with stronger monsters on, how'd you find it overall? Would the diminished exp + no shopping modifiers be a better solution if I'm looking for a challenge?

If you want a challenge, absolutely turn on Stronger Monsters. You can always turn it off if you hit a wall in the postgame.

Fuck the Fifth Trial. It's not even fun. It's 30% team composition, 70% luck. Who the fuck thought that was a good idea?

Erik doing 6000 damage to a boss :sweating:
Time to do Drustan's trial then finish Wheel of Harma after I equip everyone with the best stuff.

About to get to the Trials in post-game, have some idle thoughts about the game so far:

This game really made me "get" Dragon Quest I feel like. I had tried to play 8 and 9 before this and enjoyed what I played but ended up dropping both. 9 a lot quicker than 8 but still, never finished either. Playing XI has taught me how to play these games though. Taught me their pace, the ways you can get enjoyment out of them. I've been playing V as a result too and am loving it. Really excited to pick up the other entries again.

They really did Jade dirty in this game huh? Act 2 sees pretty significant development for every single member of the cast but she gets....just another reason to throw her in a bunny suit. Outside of her really great intro in Octagonia and Dundrasil she has been by far the weakest link in the cast imo. Killer design tho and it feels like they really lean on that design too much for appeal instead of giving her anywhere near the story content that everyone else gets. Pretty disappointing.

Speaking of disappointing the story reason for the post game bummed me the hell out. I feel like I grew such a huge attachment to the cast during Act 2 and watching the characters overcome their trials and battling their pasts. It really felt like we had all gone through an incredible journey together. Then the post game stuff comes along and throws a lot of that away. My party in the post game doesn't feel like MY party. They feel like imposters in a way.

Feel like an ass because of it, but

10 minutes into Act 2 and I have 100% lost interest in the game. Why do I have to play tedious bits of stories with every single character now? I want to continue on my big quest. Don't know if this is like a 3 hour intermezzo now or straight on 10 hours or whatever. Usually I'm a patient guy and maybe this just means the world building and atmosphere of DQ11 just doesn't click with me. I mean, it also doesn't NEED to. Shrug. I'm out.

Those are the new Switch-exclusive character stories, and yeah, they damage the pacing. I'd encourage you to stick through it though if you enjoyed the game prior to this. The first one's the longest, and only 4 characters get stories -- not all of them.

It's been a long and exciting ride, but I'm glad it's over. All 250 accolades unlocked. Endgame conquered without turning off Shypox, which I was so close to doing. One of the more memorable gaming experiences I've had in recent times.

Playing the jackpot again and getting screwed by RNG. The bunny lady said she had a feeling someone would win it soon. I've gotten every number but 12 and 14 and wasted so many tokens lol.
How do you defeat Rab when you have to fight him on your own? He gets some sort of power boost and an attack that hits for half my HP.
Quadraslash him to death.

Ugh, these character story things after Act 1 are... making me not want to play the game. Finished up the first one and it was cute, but I'm just kinda like "can we get on with it?" Do they get better? As in, do they actually tie in well to the story? I don't hate these characters or anything, but I worry I might start to if they keep me from moving the story forward for too long.

They all tie into the story well and the first one is definitely the longest one.

Good to hear. I think knowing they're not too long in general will help me try and enjoy them more. And knowing that they matter.

I do have to say: I'm glad they're somewhat meatier stories, rather than just an optional side-quest you can take on, which is often how "definitive" editions do stuff like that. They put in the time on these, which is nice.

Completed the game. Did almost everything at about 120h (some of those last stuff to do is just utterly meh).

Man if that game doesn't have celestial highs and abysmal lows.

Still, what a ride.

Anyone got some pointers as to the references to other games? I caught a bunch of them but was wondering if someone complied them or something.

I'm coming up to Journey's End (end of Act 3). I only got to the end of act 2 in my first playthrough on 3DS back in 2017, so this has been great. Not ready for this to be done yet, easily one of my favourite games ever made (FE3H and this have easily made 2019 my favourite gaming year in the past decade at least). That said..

I am happy that they brought Veronica back to life, but I really wish that:

A: They brought her back in adult form, her adult design is great and could have represented growth over the journey as well. Coming back in child form was deflating. That tease with the seer was annoying too, just leave her older!
B: Time travel wasn't used as the plot device to bring her back. Act 2 is one of the greatest arcs in gaming ever. Veronica's sacrifice, Sylvando's acceptance arc with his father, Erik and Mia, Rab's training, Serena's acceptance and growth after Veronica's death, Hendrik's face turn.. Everything was so well done. Thematically it was great too, the destroyed towns, the last bastion.. Even the struggles of major NPCs were touching throughout. To just erase all of that severely weakened the story in the third act for me.

I really wish they'd gone with a time skip forward instead (say 5 years forward, to explain towns being rebuilt etc.), and had Serena gain the power over those years to bring Veronica back. Then on top, further fleshed out each character's growth from act 2. There was so much potential, and this could have been my favourite game ever, but act 3 holds it back from being absolutely perfect imo.

To keep it spoiler free:

Act 1 has great pacing and decent story.
Act 2 has godawful pacing and great story moments intertwined with meh to wut story moments.
Act 3 has weird pacing and WTF story with still some cool moments (like, lots of very cool stuff in the epilogue, for example).

But there are so many weird points in the game, like how the start of act 2 has the pacing literally brought to an halt for 10 to 20 hours, how the true final boss has literally no build-up, how the end of act 1 works well but is utter-fucking-cliche, or how most of act 3 is heavily recycled content, special mention to those "final dungeons".

One thing that was really disappointing was ...
How hyped I was about "reviving" Beronica (I just knew that was gonna happen) but how it felt shallow and ultimately empty when it happened. This "time travel" stuff is a mess and undoes a ton of cool stuff that happens in act 2 and the way act 3 resolves some of the issues is just "wtf bro".

Overall it felt like Act 3 wanted to have its cake and eat it too, and while it's nice to have new enemies and stuff it just doesn't work very well from a story standpoint despite some nice ideas.

I found the best way to play this enjoyably is to not use any modifiers. And manually unequip all your armour. That will give you a good challenge. If you run up against any bosses that are taking multiple tries, then equip it as needed.

The modifiers just require you to fight alot and grind. Playing the game without armour and just fighting sparringly will keep the game challenging and still fast paced where you don't have to fight monsters for an hour.

Definitely the game is harder at the beginning because you have less battle options. Once you get a full party and lots of skill points and spells the game feels easier because you can compose better strategies and mix and match character abilities.

Jade is the one party member that gets worse and worse. She starts out as a fantastic addition and fades into the background by the end of the game. Such a shame since I like her. At least she's useful in battle.

Everyone else was great and only improved over time.

Anyway, today I finally finished Act 3. Might go back to do the Tockle quests but otherwise I am done.

Fantastic game and I even loved Act 3.

The worst time for me was actually the beginning of Act 2. NOT the solo stories, I kinda liked them, but once you take control of the hero again. Everything came to a halt for the longest time.
And once you got the whole group again the Act was over.

To sum up: This is my favourite Dragon Quest game by far. Goodbye number 4, you had a good run on top.
