the game recently got a date and several new trailers. for those, visit here:

today, there was another japanese live stream for the definitive edition, there's a lot of new stuff so i thought a sperate thread was needed. i'm posting info posted on the twitter account.
here's my previous list of new features in the definitive edition:
- "super fast" battle speed
- japanese VA
- party members follow you on the field
- you can call your horse from anywhere on the field
- killing enemies while on the horse earns you XP
- the 2D mode from the 3DS version (you can play the whole game like a SNES RPG, and can toggle between 2D and 3D mid-game)
- fully orchestrated music, can switch back to MIDI
- new story content, focusing on each of the party members
- more monsters to ride
- the retro areas from the 3DS version are back, you get to revisit areas from each of the past 10 dragon quest games
- more marriage options (you can choose to "live with" male characters as well)
- there's going to be an audio drama DLC coming after launch

1. new trailer:

2. cover art, there's something new in the upper right corner? the cover is the same for the western version.
d83ert6uyauv2nuuaksd.jpeg

3. there's a voice drama DLC, 4 to 5 hours in length. included with the special edition, separate purchase for the normal edition. many stories about different characters, including stories about their past. possible to display the character the story is talking about?

d83guenv4ayxzw10bkxu.jpeg

4. another bit of DLC included in the special edition lets you change the appearance of two characters to be like DQ8, as well as the ability to change the field music tracks to those of DQ8!
d83hofeu8aadewpvjkfu.jpeg

5. for japanese version, english VA is DLC included with the special edition. text is still japanese only. western versions get japanese and english VA, no dlc.

6. hardware bundle

The blacksmithing changes are so good. If they don't plan on updating the other versions I'm definitely double dipping on the Switch when I get one.

I wish there was some way to import your progress from the PS4 version into the Switch version. I just finished Act 2 on the PS4 and I have no idea if I want to just finish it on the PS4 or restart it on the Switch. It sucks to kind have to kind of choose between versions on a game that is this long!

there is, but it'll probably be japan-only unless they update the western ps4 future to be able to generate codes. see number 11.

I'm guessing Japan didn't get the VIII costume since America got that.
oh they were already included? i didn't know that since i haven't played the game. so the only new thing would be the DQ8 music.

Wow, dual-audio? I wanted to play the other DQ games but this might be my first one, We'll see. I'll definitely be playing this at some point, either way.

list of the new features coming to the game in this version:

- killing enemies while on the horse earns you XP
- the 2D mode from the 3DS version (you can play the whole game like a SNES RPG, and can toggle between 2D and 3D mid-game)
- orchestrated music, can switch back to MIDI (it's still not clear whether everything is orchestrated or not, but field and battle themes are confirmed)

I'm completely blown away. These new features and everything in the new trailers.. simply incredible. The fully orchestrated music in the 3-D version of the game is beautiful, equally as is the midi in the 2-D version, both brought a huge smile to my face. I have to hand it to SE, they REALLY outdid themselves with this port.

My most wanted game of the year is soon upon us.

WOW totally misunderstood that. That would be incredibly awesome but I guess they have no incentive whatsoever for Sony to patch that feature into the USA's PS4....

Definitive edition indeed.

I don't care for the PS4 to Switch stuff because the QoL stuff means that I'll replay from scratch again.

This game is a big 'Happy Birthday to me' :). Sorry Link's Awakening, you have to wait until the Fall. Sheesh, September is a big month with Astral Chains and Daemon x Machina for me. I don't think I can finish those two games before they released. Sigh, first world problems.

sony doesn't have to patch it, SE does. it's not a system feature, it's a feature in the game where it generates a code based on your levels and where you are at the game, and you can input that code in the new version to carry your progress. the japanese PS4 and 3DS versions already had that feature so they don't need to do anything about those to carry progress into the switch version, but i'm not sure if SE will patch the western pc/ps4 versions.

The save transfer option is huge. Also, I'm liking the Slime Blue Joy-Cons.

Dang, that's so cool. Between this and P5R, looks like I'm replaying two of the longest JRPGs I've gone through in recent memory again. LOL

Hm, I mean, I know Nintendo is publishing the game in the but obviously SE has a vested interest in it's success too.

It honestly feels like the least they can do if they aren't going to port these new features into the PS4 version. I am happy to pay for the upgrades on the Switch, but I don't know if I am willing to put in the 80 hours I've played on the PS4 into a Switch version all over again....

Fair enough to Square Enix, it sure took a while but they definitely put in a hell of an effort to make it the best version of the game and perhaps make up for it. Props! Definitely picking this up in September.

They really went the extra mile.

The game is getting better and better and it was pretty darn good to start with !

Bought the PS4 version on release day, about halfway through it, and have been meaning to return to it, but I think I'll hold off and get the Switch version. There's just too many new goodies to pass up.

I really hope that save-transfer is in the Western version. I'll probably be buying it anyway but I'd get it Day One if I knew that I didn't have to go through those beginning sections again.

Is the voice drama dlc the previously announced new story content or is that yet to be detailed at this point?

also apparently the OST has been confirmed to be fully orchestrated (there was previously doubts since it was mentioned that maybe only the field and battle themes are orchestrated). this is according to Jose Cespedes based on the stream, but it wasn't mentioned on twitter so i didn't put it on the list.

Is the voice drama dlc the previously announced new story content or is that yet to be detailed at this point?
no, that stuff is in-game, where "each character becomes the protagonist and sets off on an adventure", the voice drama is separate.

I'm happy I waited to get the Switch version instead of the PS4. They are really going all out here! I was happy with just getting the 2D mode, but the rest of this is just nuts.

It just keeps getting better. I'm also really happy they're using the Japanese version's ace cover art.

Is there going to be a special box set with art book, steel book, ect like the PS4 Edition of Lost Time? So far only seeing info on the Switch skin and Slime controller.

Oh wow, uh... Japan getting the English Voices. It's DLC but that's still really cool.

Everything about this is really shaping up to be the definitive edition. I do wonder if this version will, down the road, also end up on Steam as well, but I feel the ship has sailed for PS4 owners (unfortunately). Curious if we'll see the older DQ games also ported as well (first three I believe). They did that for the 3DS and PS4 to cross promote Dragon Quest XI, so maybe they'll do that, and beyond, for this?
