In a statement to IGN, Capcom acknowledged possible frame rate issues with Dragon's Dogma 2 on PC, saying they may be linked to the heavy amount of CPU demanded from NPCs in the game.

Anybody else afraid of ruining themselves FPS-wise? (Explanation inside)

This is gonna be a weird one. But I'll try to explain. So hopefully this makes sense: I started out playing mainly as a console only gamer. So I'd settle for mostly 30 fps as that was all I had at the time. Then I got a PC and tried 60. Did not feel a difference.... ....until I tried to go...

im not looking so crazy now am I?

This is why I only play games at 60fps on my 4090/7800x3d. No way in hell I am hitting 144fps in anything I'd really want to.

EDIT:

I see the open world test area... but this....? this is worrying part:

4k.jpg

1440.jpg

1080.jpg

As you can see, even at 1080p they were hitting 29 FPS (1% lows) That is a huge drop. You WILL feel that.. Unreal. CPU bound game is CPU bound.

Curious how Wilds might perform as Dragon's Dogma 2 is the first open-world RE Engine game. It's got a major focus on physics interactions and NPCs which are the main bottlenecks so the two games aren't 1-to-1 but Wilds is pushing some serious weather effects and creature density on top of it possibly being open-world (or at least as big as the Guiding Lands from World)

Maybe a sign of things to come? Hope not.

Kinda tired of these games that don't look particularly great and yet have bad performance. At least RTGI is in to somewhat put it in current-gen territory tech-wise.

8700K + 2070.

I hope I get at least staple 30 fps.

Would be the first game dipping in the 20s if not.

DLSS3 and FSR3 is desperately needed for this game to help alleviate CPU bottlenecks.

It's nice that Capcom is aware of the CPU usage issues, but I'm doubtful they will be able to really improve them. It kind of sounds like the underlying game design is just unfortunately super taxing.

Well, I wanted to stream the game, so at least in that case, probably going to be very bad lol

Ryzen 7 3700X + GTX 1080 8GB + 16GB DDR4 RAM overclocked to 3200mhz

Hoping for atleast 30fps on Medium/Low at 1080p using image/GPU scaling or other options.

Tbh with a 3080 + 5800x in 4K balanced DLSS and still getting 30-45 fps in cities seems fine to me.

Now I have a 4080 + 12900k and I'm worried about how my 12th gen i9 will do

As long as I get 50-60 fps most of the time I'm content

5700x / 4070. Average 68fps for one step down CPU on that chart at 1080p.

If those dips are mostly in towns I could live with it.

Hey, as long as locked 30 is possible at 1440p on a 3070/5600x setup, DLSS or otherwise, then I'm good.

a 9700K averaging at almost 60 fps in open world doesnt sound too bad compared to console though

i9-13900HX and RTX 4080 laptop vers.

Let's see if I can get 1080/60 on medium settings. Or maybe my laptop melts.

Who the heck has an interlaced screen these days?

Interlaced Mode is RE Engine's equivalent to checkerboard rendering, IIRC.

Wasn't this supposed to launch with DLSS 3? I played the original on PS3 and can tolerate low FPS Dragon's Dogma, so I have intention of waiting for a patch, but it would have been nice to frame gen at launch.

Curious to see how my 4090 / i7 13700k / 32 GB ram will handle it.

I prefer 1440p if I can help it.

Sounds like most of Dragon's Dogma 2 framerate issues are within the towns itself. I can handle drops in towns as long as I've got a more stable performance in the world itself and during combat. Running at i9-14900k and 4080 so hopefully I'll be good when out and about hunting and exploring. I only play in 1440p and am good with locking FPS to 60 if needed.

Do I finally need to upgrade my 3700X? I'm using that and a 3060ti. I also mainly use my 1440p monitor. My 1080p doesn't have G-Sync.

Think I should stick with my 3060ti/ Ryzen 5 5600x or am I better off with PS5?

Hoping for 1080p/60ish in open world if I can, without melting my hardware

Guess I don't have to rush FF VII Rebirth. Not touching this with my 5800x.
I've been meaning to upgrade to a 7800x3D. But at this point I feel like waiting until the next X3D generation.

Pretty worried about how my i5-10600K and 3070ti is gonna handle this lol. Hopefully people find some ini tweaks to fuck with to get some more performance out of it

DLSS 2 will be almost completely useless inside the cities. Lowering the internal resolution probably makes the game even more CPU limited.
Saw a screen with a 3080 usage at 50% with 37 fps.

its just what capcom calls their upscaling.

Interlaced Mode is RE Engine's equivalent to checkerboard rendering, IIRC.

Okay, that context makes sense. I'm a bit confused as to what the recommended settings could be doing such that the 1070 can run 1080p30 native (presumably everything at the lowest option), but the 2080 potentially is going just as low of a resolution internally without raytracing enabled (specified by the notes that they only recommend 2080Ti+ for RT). I guess we'll find out when Alex drops the vid.

I reviewed it at max settings / no upscaling at 1440p with a 4080 Super and 5800X3D: In cities, there were still drops in the 30-40 FPS range

Oh man. I'm also playing on an ultra wide too. 1440p. This is sounding like it could be the harshest game for my set up lol.

Expected it to run like garbage with unstable frame pacing and frequent dips with some basic PC aspects missing, and sure seems like it'll be the case.

A real shame they couldn't include the actual PC settings in the Demo, or even better also have a Benchmark, so people could tell for themselves and call out observed issues before launch.

Oh well, guess it'll need a few months of patches to be in a good state. Here's hoping they're communicative about it at least

Maaaaan, my son and i were both gonna be playing this on Steam through sharing, but he has my old gaming pc which is still rocking a 1060. Since Steam Deck performance is poor, i think i might just have to do PS5 version since we both have a PS5 and can gameshare it on there.
