It runs fine, has some minor pop-in.I've never played Dragons Dogma, I kinda wanna wait to hear how the performance is on Switch.
Port feels solid. Let me check my embargo restrictions for footage. If allowed, I'll show some of the open area.
Pop-in is noticeable. You'll see bushes & such randomly appear. Haven't encountered any noticeable frame rate issues.
I had few people ask me for clarification with regards to the differences, if any, between the Switch version and other platforms.
At a high level, the Switch version is based off of the excellent PC HD port so you'll get all transferable features, content, bug fixes, and tweaks from that version.
Most of the points below have been showcased in the official Capcom TV Japanese broadcast, but to summarize:
Edit: fixed typo
- UI elements/layout have been further optimized for the Switch port. Namely, the mini map, button/action displays, notification box, and pawn chatter message box have been pushed out further to the outer edges of the screen for better visibility.
- Includes all previously released DLCs, pre-order bonuses, retailer-exclusives, and of course, the Dark Arisen expansion content. There is nothing else to purchase - it's all built into the base game. No Rift Crystal microtransactions from the original X360/PS3 releases so you'll need to earn them through normal gameplay and online pawn rentals.
- Pawn chatter can be turned off in the Options menu for those who prefer a quieter journey.
- Shortcuts can be assigned to the directional buttons for certain item use such as healing herbs and lantern.
- Game runs at a capped 30fps on Switch; same as PS4 and Xbox One versions.
- Textures are based off of the source HD material and are not repurposed from the original PS3/X360 release.
- Output resolution: 720p in handheld and 1080p in docked mode. Full 16:9 aspect ratio and no letterboxing.
- Does not require Nintendo online service to access Dragon's Dogma's online features.
Check the second postGreat op!
Any tips for those folks new to the game? Is there a better class for newcomers?
And is there true online? The description of the online sounds like there's not coop but you can summon other player's pawns that you control. Am I reading that right?
There is no co-op, yes.Great op!

I'll recommend Strider too. It's a dual blade wielding class that focuses on fast movement and quick melee attacks as well as archery (this game's archery is incredible, btw). It's just very fun and badass.
But just so you know, you shouldn't worry about missing out on potentially more fun classes, as you can freely switch between them and basically try all of them; it's actually encouraged too.
Start with either Strider or Fighter, don't choose Mage (yet). I'd suggest Strider myself, because the archery is really fun!
Anyway, you will be locked into the class until you make it to the city, and then you can change class as many times as you want, no penalty. It's worth trying them all out, even in the same playthrough.
The reason I'm advising against going Mage is that it's not very fun at low low level. Try it out when you have the pawns to support you.
It'll make sense when you're in the game.
Thanks. The second post was updated after I asked. Sounds great! A bummer about lack of coop though.Check the second post
There's a boss fight in the game which is technically online (damage you do is combined with other people) but other than that, you can only share pawns between players
I started replaying this on PC this weekend. I'm looking forward to playing it at the same time as other people! Just gotta have my 60 FPS.
Yes! Absolutely. I'll quote my post from the other thread basically giving a little elevator pitch of Dragon's Dogma for those unfamiliar with it.
This is nothing like any typical JRPG, this also isn't Skyrim in the way Skyrim is known. It's no "see that mountain?..." type of game. This is very very mild Skyrim-adjacent with some blend of DMC/Monster Hunter-like combat and then its own stuff on top.
Its more of an action game. I can tell you it has much better combat than Skyrim. I would compare it Dark Souls but faster and more fluid if that makes any sense.
This is my seventh time i'm purchasing this game because I love it so much. I think I may have a Dragon's Dogma problem...
how do you get to seven? did you buy parallel releases? like both xbox and ps of the same gen? This is my seventh time i'm purchasing this game because I love it so much. I think I may have a Dragon's Dogma problem...

Well, the basic elevator pitch for this would be something like Skyrim x Monster Hunter x Dark Souls
It's basically Itsuno's passion project, something he's always wanted to make since he was a kid. It's an open-world RPG that places an emphasis on dungeon crawling, exploring dark and dangerous ruins, caves etc. Don't go into this expecting some Oscar-worthy story or anything, most of the things you'll be doing are just excuses to go out and kill shit. I'd say it's the closest any action RPG has gotten to pen-and-paper Dungeons & Dragons.
The general gameplay loop revolves around building up a party of pawns then venturing out into the wild. At the very start of the game, you'll make your main pawn (you can fully customizable) which will stick with you the entire game. You can hire pawns and if you have friends playing, use their pawns in your party.
I'd say the biggest draw of this game is the god-tier combat. It's pretty much unanimous that Dragon's Dogma alongside KH2FM has the best combat and magic in any ARPG. I'll let these videos do the explaining themselves.

Do you like Japanese styled action games? I label this game more as an open world beat em up like the Capcom D&D arcade games. Doesn't have as in depth story as most RPG's, but it's combat is top notch.

Those videos do look awesome! I'm not super into Japanese action games and could never really get into Dark Souls. Something about gothic games don't really do it for me. Wasn't huge into Dragon Age, Monster Hunter or DMC, either.
But I do like a good Fantasy with good combat. Is it more like The Witcher? I loved that.
keep in mind also that the story is largely garbage in dragons dogma, so dont play for that. witcher with better combst gameplay wise is probably an ok descriptor. it does have big monster fights in the overworld, but they are more similar to monster hunter. Those videos do look awesome! It has better combat than the Witcher. Its just more fluid and tigther even using mage spells feels better than anything in the witcher but the witcher has a much better story. Guess it depends on what you like in games tbh. Those videos do look awesome! I'm not super into Japanese action games and could never really get into Dark Souls.
