TIPS FOR NEW PLAYERS
- The game has a damage threshold system. This means that if you have less attack than an opponent's defense you will do almost zero damage. Replace your weapon immediately when you start the game and upgrade often.
- Character creation actually affects gameplay. Smaller characters have faster stamina recovery speed, can scale large foes faster, and can fit in tiny holes to explore certain areas... But they walk and jog slower (sprinting speed is equalized), are easily picked up by certain foes, have reduced melee reach, have reduced inventory capacity, and are knocked around easily by strong wind. Massive, bulky characters have the reverse traits, naturally.
- Exploration is heavily rewarded in this game, in the outdoors and indoors. Climb up rafters, check behind corners, hop across pillars, and give every nook and cranny a look. Vertical exploration is usually always rewarded, even in locations you seriously wouldn't expect.
- There are missable quests in the game, all of which can be pretty easy to miss if you don't know any better. My advice? Don't sweat it and play as you will. The ONE exception, the ONE quest chain you simply can't afford to miss, happens really early on... At an early point, someone will run up to you and inform you that a girl's gone missing. Whatever you do, see this quest through before you do the later Main Quest mission that asks you to enter the area underneath the Pawn Guild, as doing so is the point where the missing girl mission vanishes from your log. Completing the missing girl mission will at a slightly later point in the game give you exclusive access to a very important side-area of a dungeon location which contains extremely important lore and items, among them a unique crafting material that doesn't appear anywhere else and a fast travel beacon, of which there are a scant handful in the game.
- Night time is no joke. Until you and your party are capable monster slayers, scurry back to the safety of a settlement when you notice the light dimming... Or suffer the consequences.
- Feel free to swap the Vocations of yourself and your Main Pawn as you please. Frequent swapping will ensure your stat growths upon level up are somewhat even and can unlock passives that carry over between Vocation swaps. And on the note of Vocations, none are strictly better than the other. They all have uses. I'd recommend that every party has a Mage, if only for their unique healing magic.
- Don't issue direct commands to your Pawns (Go, Come, Attack, etc). This will impart bad mannerisms to your Main Pawn later on down the line and he/she won't perform as optimally as they should. Just let your Pawns do as they will.
- The lesser variety of side-quests, collected from various mission boards, will auto-complete the moment you fulfill them. No reason not to grab that quest to slay 20 Goblins! It'll reward you with gold and EXP out on the field! The big exception are Escort Quests, which are COMPLETE CRAP and should be AVOIDED UNDER ALL CIRCUMSTANCES. There's one (or two, I forget) quest board(s) in the starting town, another in the camp near that town, and four in the biggest city. Check in on them all as you make progress in the Main Quest.

"Player(s): 1 (Network Multiplayer)" is a pretty confusing way to point out that it's a singleplayer game with NPC sharing. You're also missing the € price: 29.99. File size is also pretty useful to have in there...

There's a boss fight in the game which is technically online (damage you do is combined with other people) but other than that, you can only share pawns between players
There is no co-op, yes.

Yes! Absolutely. I'll quote my post from the other thread basically giving a little elevator pitch of Dragon's Dogma for those unfamiliar with it.
Well, the basic elevator pitch for this would be something like Skyrim x Monster Hunter x Dark Souls
It's basically Itsuno's passion project, something he's always wanted to make since he was a kid. It's an open-world RPG that places an emphasis on dungeon crawling, exploring dark and dangerous ruins, caves etc. Don't go into this expecting some Oscar-worthy story or anything, most of the things you'll be doing are just excuses to go out and kill shit. I'd say it's the closest any action RPG has gotten to pen-and-paper Dungeons & Dragons.
The general gameplay loop revolves around building up a party of pawns then venturing out into the wild. At the very start of the game, you'll make your main pawn (you can fully customizable) which will stick with you the entire game. You can hire pawns and if you have friends playing, use their pawns in your party.
I'd say the biggest draw of this game is the god-tier combat. It's pretty much unanimous that Dragon's Dogma alongside KH2FM has the best combat and magic in any ARPG. I'll let these videos do the explaining themselves.
This is nothing like any typical JRPG, this also isn't Skyrim in the way Skyrim is known. It's no "see that mountain?..." type of game. This is very very mild Skyrim-adjacent with some blend of DMC/Monster Hunter-like combat and then its own stuff on top.
Do you like Japanese styled action games? I label this game more as an open world beat em up like the Capcom D&D arcade games. Doesn't have as in depth story as most RPG's, but it's combat is top notch.
Its more of an action game. I can tell you it has much better combat than Skyrim. I would compare it Dark Souls but faster and more fluid if that makes any sense.
Been debating picking this up on Switch since I've never actually finished it but I think I might just go with the PC version instead and play along while there's some buzz around the game again.
I'm pretty sure it had to be modded into the PC version, but is the Berserk content from the PS3 version included in this version? Having the Dragon Slayer was so damn cool.
If i'm remembering correctly, there was a promo that allowed it back in the day (pre-Dark Arisen) and it ran out by the time the PC/PS4 version came out.

This game is something special. Vanilla end game content and Dark Arisen content is really good/fun. The main game/story path is über janky at times, but it's never not charming in its own way. The combat keeps the game going and the different classes are really fun to play around with.
I loved the game on PS3 (original + Dark Arisen physical releases) and later on PC. I'll buy this for my Switch, but I'll probably wait for a sale as I don't have time to fit in a playthrough when it releases. Apparently there's no physical edition in the EU which was the one thing that could have made me pick it up at launch (Maybe I'll import later).

how do you get to seven? did you buy parallel releases? like both xbox and ps of the same gen?
I've got one tip. If this is like the PC version where all DLC items are in your storage as you start the game, I suggest ignoring the equipment items. Some of the DLC items are much more powerful than anything else you get early in the game, so it would make the early parts of the game feel too easy.
Those videos do look awesome! I'm not super into Japanese action games and could never really get into Dark Souls. Something about gothic games don't really do it for me. Wasn't huge into Dragon Age, Monster Hunter or DMC, either.
But I do like a good Fantasy with good combat. Is it more like The Witcher? I loved that.
More fast paced then those other games. Witcher and Dark Souls are more clunky compared to DD.
keep in mind also that the story is largely garbage in dragons dogma, so dont play for that. witcher with better combst gameplay wise is probably an ok descriptor. it does have big monster fights in the overworld, but they are more similar to monster hunter.
Yeah the story and what little side quests there are aren't great. The exploration and loot farming are fun enough motivators though.

It's definitely better than The Witcher's combat. Pretty much every class plays differently though, so you should be able to find something you like.
For example, I know it's controversial, but I've never cared to touch a yellow/your ranger -assassin class, even though that's apparently where the game shines the most, and it's still the best game of last gen for me.

Same :D Do we have any Era folk that play Dragon's Dogma Online?
It has better combat than the Witcher. Its just more fluid and tigther even using mage spells feels better than anything in the witcher but the witcher has a much better story. Guess it depends on what you like in games tbh.
