Autosave works exactly the same as the other console versions. It only activates when you accept/complete a quest, go through a door with a loading screen, sleeping, enter/exiting rift and using a ferrystone.
Yeah probably. Still not super reliable. Gotta remember to make manual saves once in a while.

Am I safe to sell things like random wolf pelts and bones and stuff, or do I want to keep them for however the crafting/upgrade system in this game works?
Rule of thumb is don't ever sell anything honestly. Almost everything in the game can be combined into something useful, or is used as an upgrade component for a piece of armor.

My advice is every time you wrap up some quests and are back in town just go through all your characters and dump all your extra items into storage at the inn.

There are some super common enemy drops that after a while you can start to sell to get money for expensive late game upgrading, but you will know what those are by the time you need to do it in the end game. Stuff like ogre/cyclops parts and chimera parts, you will have dozens and dozens of these by the end of the game and can sell them for good coin, but by and large getting cash early isn't an issue, just store everything.

I'm totally back in again, this game is still great, even if I still don't quite "get" how difficulty works in it. Some enemies are laughable, others are oneshotting me, and there doesn't seem to be much rhyme and reason to it. But I still do love how the characters look, the style of the whole thing, the fact that there's tons of fashion/armor combinations, stuff like changing your hair is so well done, nights are DARK, everything's voice acted, the animations and cutscenes are still cool, and everything is just so well designed. I dunno if I will actually finish the game this time (last time I stopped at I think the final few moments) but I'm having a ton of fun again.

My pawn is a mage if you need one! Friend code SW-6048-3580-5035. I'll be adding people also when the server goes back up.

When you borrow friends, are they scales to your level? I don't want high level friends trivializing all the content. I just bought the game and it's my first time playing. So excited!!

No they don't scale, but you can clearly see their level in the rift and avoid those higher than yours if you want.

Using a friend's pawn just removes the rift crystal cost of using one higher than your level.

You also get an exp penalty from using higher level pawns.

What is the best way to deal with large groups of enemies? I just fought all those bandits in front of the ruins of aernst castle and I won, but it was a mess of constantly reviving pawns. I've put a decent chunk of time into other versions of this game, but I never really felt great about large groups. I'm currently a mystic knight.

Holy shit, I just found out the game has touch controls... but just when you tap on the minimap (it takes you to the map screen). Literally none of the other menus I've tested support touch.

What a weird inclusion.

Speaking of controls, I really wish I could map the inventory button to something else. Hitting that in the middle of a fight is just really hard for me between the size of it and its proximity to the stick. If I could just tap a corner of the screen for that it would be much better.

OK so I'm really lost. I've tried going to Gran Soren but the way is blocked and nothing is happening when I go to the blue icon on the map. I've got no idea where to go next...

I've found it to be crazy useful when exploring in portable mode!

Yeah, really beats having to go into the pause menu just to go to the map.

I got myself a magic bow and swapped over to magic archer and it's pretty cool. I'll probably try out mage/sorcerer a bit later.

I woke up stupidly early last week and almost bit on this for the Switch. I ended up waiting and picking up a second hand copy on 360 for peanuts. I've only just started but I really like it. I consider this a paid demo for the switch version!

Started finally playing it today even though I've had it since Switch's launch. This is pretty good so far, chose Strider and I'm having a lot of fun with it. Got to the big castle area and stopped for now.

Just in case: The game seems to randomly (?) put the online option in the options menu to disabled - you might wanna check that. At least so far, I didn't have noticable server issues, but every time the game complained about being offline, it was that damn menu option.

I believe putting the Switch to sleep will drop you offline.

That's true, but the servers are offline right now. See above, several people have commented on it.

Do all inns share one common storage?

Lost a solid hour of wandering the wilderness because I accidentally jumped off of a large cliff. :( Remember to save often when you're just wandering around and don't plan on going back to town.

I ended up accepting an escort quest from Selene right after getting to gran Soren and thought I'd just try it and drop my portcrystal there for spring water. My panic sprinting every time I heard the battle music start ended up getting me all the way to the duke's manse after dying once, so it was actually not bad!

As for people wanting to fight the thieves on the way to the witchwood, what I always do is start as a strider, and try to pull them only one or two at a time by running away. Constantly move around abusing the ensnare move on the hardest hitters to reduce the danger. You'll still have pawns biting it every now and then, but I'm able to kill them all that way if I'm patient. You just really want to keep them knocked down as much as possible using skills and go ham when one is on the ground.

I finally figured out how fast travel works, but I'm tempted to only use it in rare situations (ie not to resolve an inventory problem, just to cut out travel on a path I've already been on many times). I really like the feeling of pushing out from the capital into the unknown, then having to make my way back, potentially through the night depending on how things have gone.

I switched from fighter, the warrior, now to assassin. Having a bow as well as a sword feels great. I love having a mage pawn or two covering all the potential buffs I need and going to town on cyclops or chimeras. Very satisfying.

Does the game have level scaling or anything like that? So far most of the places I've visited have been basically level appropriate.

Hopefully the first patch fixes the issue.

Also got lucky and got the Galvanic Razors after 5 resets at the Ruins of Heavenspark Fort. Should be a nice boost being only level 17!

Picking the game up today. I can't wait. I've added a bunch of you for your pawns.

I'll be putting a bunch of time in to it, so hopefully, I'll have a good pawn to share. My FC is: 0418-2673-3509

That's how I did my first run back on the PS3. Of course, in those vanilla Dragon's Dogma days, the fast travel options were even cruder and more limited.
Assassin's my favorite class. On PS3, I played a jack-of-all-trades. On PS4, I ran a min-maxed Assassin. Disgusting how fast I was melting even the toughest of encounters. On hard mode, no less!

There's no scaling in this game at all. All enemies have fixed stats, with palette swaps and/or bulkier/more tricked out character models denoting tougher variants. All chests have fixed loot tables, with common and rare drops as possibilities. (Chests, enemies, harvest nodes, etc., respawn after a certain number of in-game days). IIRC, only the expansion (BBI) loot introduces an RNG element to things, with special enchantments generated randomly (though from a fixed enchantment table depending on the loot in question).

From what others have said, yeah, it's pretty demanding. I think I read 2.5 - 3 hours.
It IS a good port, though.

Anyone know the battery drain on handheld? Is it as bad as BOTW?

I haven't played a ton, but I jump between handheld and docked. it definitely burns through battery, probably about the same rate as BotW. It's fine for me, but I wouldn't bank on getting more than 3 hours without a plug.

Edit: as the guy above me said, it's a great port in both modes, so hopefully the battery doesn't put you off much. I could see myself playing around 50% of this game in handheld

Just switched to hard mode this morning. The difficulty boost is nice, the bonus xp is hilarious though, I'm glad I waited till new game + to switch, because my character is leveling up from just about everything. Also, how have I never used immolation before, it makes everything super trivial and keeps annoying enemies from dragging you off or whatever.

Additionally, I never realized you can buy port crystals, I really do love them as a mechanic.

Holy shit I was right. These Galvanic Daggers are NUTS early on. A+

I like that NG+ is basically just "Here, start over as a badass." I have no real NEED to do a shit load of quests and such on my first run!

One question about NG+ when I get there...Does my map exploration stick or do I need to do all of that again?

It's not great, especially if you're online and running around the capital. You can switch to offline mode when handheld and I *suspect* the battery will last a little longer, but haven't actually tested this myself yet.

But yeah, as others have said, 2.5-3 hours. FWIW, it's probably my favourite way to play.
