IGN - 9/10
It's a cliche, but Dreams really is something that needs to be played to fully grasp an understanding of. It's unlike anything else: an ambitious project that has been expertly brought to life by Media Molecule, and an audacious experiment in game design that gives you endless ways to enjoy your time with it. The creation tools allow for ultimate expression despite there being a few controller related challenges to work around – never enough to deter. The vast range of experiences already on offer via Dream Surfing means that no two sessions playing it are ever the same, offering fresh ways to have fun every time you start it up and see what community creations have popped up while you've been away. Whether you just want to create, purely play, or get involved in a bit of everything, Dreams offers it all to you. This is one dream I urge you not to sleep on.

Metro - No score
We're not going to give Dreams a score, because not only is it not a game but it's a continuously changing platform that is likely to evolve into something even greater over the course of the next few years. As a tool for others to make whatever kind of virtual world they want it's an astonishing achievement, especially as according to creative director Mark Healey his team is comprised of only 50 people. You can read the entirety of our interview with him at the end of this review but in the meantime, Dreams is a surprisingly easy thing to describe, despite its seemingly endless applications.

Destructoid - 9.5/10
There are questions about the future of Dreams regarding the PlayStation 5, VR, content ownership, and the ability to export, to say nothing of shorter-term wishlist items. I can only speculate. What's here right now, today, is already brilliant. It launched later than expected, but Dreams is built to last.

It should feel dull, but it doesn't. Dreams doesn't feel like homework. Part of that is on the intuitive tools, and part of that is on Media Molecule's community-centric approach. This isn't "just another project" for the team – it's the culmination of everything they've worked toward since LittleBigPlanet. I don't think anyone but Media Molecule could have nailed Dreams. It's truly one-of-a-kind.

The Guardian - 4/5
Dreams nonetheless still offers a set of powerful, enjoyable tools at a low price and hours of fantastic tutorials. Adults may find the presentation a little too charmed by its own whimsy, especially in light of the tension between an art for art's sake message and a commercial walled garden. Yet it's likely to encourage many younger players to bring their own dreams to life.

GamePro.de - 93/100
If you are dealing with dreams, you should keep in mind that this is primarily about celebrating creativity. The expectation of getting countless games for the price of one is not wrong, but the right scale is crucial here. Dreams creations are fascinating, precisely because they have their rough edges. It is simply beautiful to see how someone managed to implement their ideas. Being part of it is a great feeling.

gamingbolt - 9/10
It is an overwhelming triumph to an extent I had not imagined was even possible with something like this. It's a spectacular platform that, if Sony actually manages it right, could be the next big thing, like Minecraft or even like Newgrounds once was. Never before have I had the pleasure of seeing a product that is so obviously flawless, with so much potential for future growth. At the tail end of the PS4's life cycle, we have received what might be the console's crown jewel.

Attack of the Fanboy - 10/10
Media Molecule's philosophy of "Play, Create, Share" that began with LittleBigPlanet in 2008 has now been perfectly realized to the fullest extent. There has never before been a set of creation tools so amazingly powerful yet so incredibly accessible, and the community has already proven the game's potential throughout the year-long Early Access period. Dreams is not just some experimental follow up to a side-scrolling series with user-created levels. It's a platform that allows for complete and nearly limitless creative expression, and it's already jam-packed with games, music, and art that more than justify the asking price. It can only get better from here, and this is a phenomenal starting point.
https://attackofthefanboy.com/reviews/dreams-review/

Gamerant.com - 4.5/5
Even at launch, Dreams will provide dozens of hours of quality entertainment for players and creators alike. The Dreams community has only scratched the surface of the game's potential, and it's going to be exciting to see what the community comes up with in the future as they develop a better grasp on its expansive creation tools.
https://gamerant.com/dreams-review/

The Daily Dot - 3/5
As it stands, Dreams is an interesting experiment. It's encouraging to imagine the world in which this game revolutionized an industry and opens the doors to more freedom for creative expression. Until then, it is only that: a dream.
https://www.dailydot.com/parsec/dreams-ps4-review/

PushSquare - 10/10
It may have taken the better part of a decade to make, but the arrival of Dreams feels significant. It represents a whole new way for people to make things and share them with the world. Media Molecule has made a suite of tools that feels intuitive to use, but more than that, it's built a social platform where players can collaborate and explore the imaginations of others. It's a technical marvel, a creative miracle, and one of the most innovative games in years.
http://www.pushsquare.com/reviews/ps4/dreams

PlayStation Universe - 10/10
It's really hard to find anything negative about Dreams. It's a powerful and remarkable set of creation tools moonlighting as a video game. If creating isn't your thing, the Dreamiverse offers an endless feed of other dreamer's playable content and the super-fun campaign. Dreams is the bees knees and should not be missed.
https://www.psu.com/reviews/dreams-ps4-review/

Games.ch - 92%
But even players without creative ambitions can have a lot of fun with "Dreams" and always discover something new. Be it the splendid (but unfortunately too short) example campaign, the numerous demo levels from Media Molecule, the crazy results of the community jams or just hours of dream surfing - "Dreams" has what it takes to be a long-running hit.
https://www.games.ch/dreams/test/review-ihVd/seite-4.html

EveryEye - 9/10

God is a Geek - 10/10
Dreams is a revolutionary video game, allowing you to create whatever you want and have fun doing it. The amount of tools and their menus are dense, and there will be times when you feel completely lost, however, if you have the willingness and time to learn, Dreams is a rewarding experience. The community at the heart of Dreams is both welcoming and helpful, and I hadn't seen a single negative comment. Dreams is such a special game, and I implore everyone to jump into the Dreamiverse.
https://www.godisageek.com/reviews/dreams-review/

JackOfAllControllers - 9.5/10
Dreams, under a creative mind, is a perfect tool to let your imagination run wild and a paint a picture for all to see. While downfalls are present, there is nothing in gaming history that can come close for the masses to make whatever they want. After countless years of delays due to development restarting, the developers nearly decade trip into creative freedom has paid off in every aspect possible despite the initial skepticism seen by the gaming world.

Gamerheadquarters - 9/10
Dreams is a simply magical experience that could produce some truly beautiful games and pieces of art, for any type of gamer to enjoy. The varied options here for what you make, are mostly limited by what you come up with. The developers have given us a plethora of options to build with whether you want to sculpt actual art or make Sonic the Hedgehog. Build a racing game, no a karting one or maybe something where you fly around. This has the options for whatever you want to make if you're that type of person.
https://gamerheadquarters.com/articles/dreams-review.html

Checkpoint Gaming - 10/10
The most special and exciting aspect of Dreams is the promise it brings. The game may now be fully released, yet it can still go so far. Dreams features no requirement for coding your creation. With this, the tool does away with the messy (albeit still important at times) technical task of coding, and lets you see and create in real time. With rumours of the game/tool hybrid one day coming to PC, I can foresee Dreams standing strong among the other big game development tools. I can even see it in classrooms, teaching future generations of kids how to make their very own game. Nothing like this has happened before, and as such the potential will remain endless.

Hobbyconsolas - 88/100
Our final assessment is that it is an incredible tool - as we had never seen on a console - and that it is also completed with a great story mode. If Little Big Planet was a platform game with an "extra" editor in this case it is just the opposite, Dreams is an "engine" for making games, music, sculptures ... that is completed with a story. What we are going to enjoy (and take advantage of) depends on our talent and learning.

MeriStation - 8.7/10
Dreams is a triumph on the formula that Media Molecule has been improving since LittleBigPlanet. Its creation tools are overwhelming and require hard work, but they're ultimately rewarding. There is a great sense of community, and trying new creations every day feels satisfying and exciting.

Gamer.no - 6/10
However, if you are mainly a player - who likes to play other people's creations - I would probably recommend waiting a few months. That is, if enough players still pay attention to Dreams. For the big games there are many in 2020, and what Dreams can now offer of experiences can not be compared to other, dedicated games. For the moment, most of Dreams games include heavy-duty controls reminiscent of the PlayStation 2 era, simple, unfinished experiences, and a pile of tech demos that are so pure copies of famous characters that it's too easy to count it as pastiche. Even Media Molecule's own games in Dreams are far too easy to be called rewarding (maybe outside of Art's Dream, and even it only lasts for 2-3 hours), and that with a relatively large team that has spent years creating this product .

It will be exciting to see where Dreams is in one, two or three years, when people have really come to know Dreams. Maybe we can come back to this review then. So far, this is an experience first and foremost reserved for the creators. Hopefully it will be just as fun to actually play Dreams in the future.

Polygon - No Score / 10
It almost feels unfair to gauge where Dreams is at right now, given that it has only officially been out for about a week. Compare that to something like Super Mario Maker, which had a grassroots scene building sophisticated Kaizo levels years before an official game came out. That's years of community-building, years of learning the grammar and lexicon of knowledgeable creators who can waltz into the game already knowing the basics of how a good Mario course should unfold. Dreams players are still feeling out what's possible, are still building out their ideal games — and they're doing it within a much more vast set of genres and disciplines. I have a feeling that months from now, we'll be seeing some really impressive stuff. But for now, that's just a dream.

GameSpot - 9/10
Dreams is a refined constructor for building a wide variety of games, and a community-centric showcase where others can play them. It's a stunning achievement that encourages limitless creative expression, a place where people can come together, collaborate, and explore each other's imaginations. It's a tool for the fools who dream, and one of the most innovative releases in years.

USgamer - 3.5/5
Art's Dream, the long-awaited story mode of sorts for Dreams, does a neat job demonstrating the possibilities of Media Molecule's game. Similarly, the collaborative nature of Dreams' players' creations factor into a welcome online ecosystem. For all that Dreams has to offer creatively, and for all the litany of levels and their enjoyable experiences, I'm yet to see a level that will stay with me after I'm done playing it. Dreams is fantastically experimentative, and it's obvious that the near-limitless creation tools provide a platform on which the community can build far into the future, but to judge this package as whole right now, it's not the wider product that leaves a lasting impression.

We may have longer to wait for the official release and Media Molecule's single-player story levels, but Dreams is already a magnificent wellspring for those who love playing, creating, and thinking about games in all their many forms

That answers my question, excited to see the reception.

It got a 10/10 while in Early Access from OPMUK so can't imagine the full version would be much less

Feels big but I have a hunch this game will forever remain niche. I'd like to be proven wrong though.

Looks good so far, not that I really care about reviews or sales but the more people with Dreams in their hands the better.

Out of curiosity, how likely is it Sony will have a monthly "Dreams" of the month sort of thing to constantly advertise the game and bring awareness to really popular stuff. If there are some real standouts and Sony gets the word out it might get people to buy the game that otherwise aren't interested in a game creation tool.

Honestly, I think this is going to be PS4 highest Metascore, there's simply no reason to take points away from it, there's no negative... even the campaing is amazing.

Cannot wait for this.

I'm going to write down my own crazy dreams, then recreate them in Dreams. It's going to be my own dream recording device!

Seems like a good game for streamers so I could see it getting a big audience on Twitch and Youtube.

I was really hoping that would be the case. I streamed the game for a full month on Twitch and there was never an audience for it. Even now, with the full release it only has 200 viewers on Twitch. It's been very disappointing, but I hope it can pick up on there.

The launch definitely has a lowkey feeling, most hearing about it here on era.

I still think this game should've had a PC release to garner more attention from the Twitch crowd. The biggest creative streamers can be found on the PC platform.

I'm not a creative type at all but might just get it and play around with what other people come up with. Could be a great game to play when indecisive about what to play.

Finally got around to really diving deep into this thing and yeah, I think it's going to be huge, especially among all those youtube and twitch content creators out there. I'm still wrapping my head around this thing.

this thing needs to be loaded on every PS5 to be the ultimate killer app as it is literally the 'game of games'.

Other Sony studios should make some small games in Dreams.

At least direct the games, if actually developing them on Dreams would be too much of a learning curve. Just send a few people from their other studios to Mm and instruct the people there in what and how to make. Would be amazing to showcase the possibilities of the tool.

Just the Early Access is a 10/10 for me, so $10 more for a campaign and more polished experience isn't exactly going to be worse.

I'm predicting some reviewers just aren't going to "get" it.
Summing up a games quality with a number is generally kinda silly, doubly so in this case. I think Youtube videos and maybe streams will sell this to those who are interested.

Unsurprisingly great reviews so far, congrats MM. I have no doubt this'll be 90+ MC average, but I just feel it'll be Sony's highest rated game all gen, so going with 95+.
