This is some meta shit. The article that turned out to be fake news, somewhat proved the point that the quote was making.
This is a worrying tendency, we always have to double check everything we read on the internet. I have seen so many people react or jump to conclusions based on fake articles.

No it didn't. Taking bullshit tabloid "interview" at face value, when respectable news outlets got duped by it aswell isn't anyone being a "snowflake" or "PC culture" gone too far (this is what the article was about). What it does show, that any shit going on about "outrage culture", "SJW:s" and "snowflakes" would be better to be ignored (like the tabloid in question). Because it's probably something dishonest trying to influence people and cause harm or in many cases downplaying something discriminatory or offensive and hurtful (there's plenty of Youtubers doing this too). There's no merit to that claim, when people thinking so need to make shit up to validate themselves. The article/interview wasn't about people falling for fake news, it was fake news in itself. The article's point was that wanting and working for equality is foolish. Only time the article mentioned anything about news, was when they cited their own "outraged" tabloid headlines of bakery rebranding their gingerbread man cookies to just gingerbread cookies. If that's true either.

But you are right about the media literacy, people neeed to stay vigilant. Especially nowadays when any people with mic and camera get to be "journalists" in Youtube. Hell, all they need is a Twitter account and they get to spread bullshit that people just eat up. I've seen this to be very common just in games reporting too by influencers like Quartering or YongYea. Then their followers spread that shit, without anyone actually checking the original source. Like let's say with the EA/Dice and Battlefield debacle. And what Patrick Söderlund actually and accurately said about the controversy around the game.

- Always assume ANY headline regardless of source is clickbait
- Assume every piece of writing you read might have bogus info and/or has ulterior motives
- If someone is accused of something terrible, wait as long as it takes for actual evidence before taking a side, regardless of how bad the charge sounds
- Being addicted to injustice porn is not good for your mental health

Regardless of the outcome, I still find it worrying how many people here unironically agree with the whole thing. "Snowflake" is a dangerous term in this day and age when it's used to dismiss the concerns of women, minorities and the LGBT.

eh? what makes them "corny" people?
...because people who agreed with the fake quote from The Rock that 'outrage culture has gone too far' were technically doing the exact same thing as the people who were disagreeing with it, which you yourself, alongside a lot of other people who have stumbled into this thread right now, criticised the latter group for? both sides were reacting to a quote that turned out to be fake, so i'm not sure how you don't understand why people who were agreeing were acting 'corny' when it seemed you thought those that didn't agree were.

This thread is proof that people are easily swayed and believe anything they read. It's the Daily Star was gods sake. It's a trash comic book of a "newspaper". It's sold for like 10p.
the article linked in the OP was from the Independent. in the end, people should have checked the original source, but it's understandable why people would have believed the OP initially.

I think it's fair to say we gotta be less reactive.

But if I were to take a proactive approach, I'd say people who cry about outrage and snowflakes, especially when "found right" like situations like this, are upcoming problems in the making.

Just as nasty, just as willing to fuck over LGBTs, women, and other aggrieved minority groups, but not as willing to out themselves as such.

While the Resetera reaction likely didn't matter, but people reaching out in social media directly to Rock and his people about the comments helped to correct the issue. Rather than people thinking that Rock is a POS over fabricated interview and people getting a validation for their shitty views by influential celebrity, the truth came out. If everyone was just silent about it, it might have not ever be corrected and the article would still be up for people to read.

Why? Dont you want to feel that you are superior to some trash celeb because of the things they said?

Even if it turns out to be wrong you can always go by the "well even if it is wrong, it only proves my point further" route.

Ez post ez life.
And it really goes back to we are just a generation of instant gratification. They want to feel better about themselves right now

To be fair, you don't really need a term to do what has been done for centuries. Once "Snowflake" wears out its welcome people will find some other rhetoric to use.

I consider that proactive to be honest.

Was the source the Independent used really The Daily Star? Everyone in UK knows not to believe The Daily Star, surely?

I'm shocked that a tabloid had a fake story.

Pretty much how people used to call people sheeps when they didn't "think with their own brains and just followed others" now they use NPC.

Everyone got swept up in a fake story that nobody checked the source on or fact checked.

Though surely it's better to be on the side of "fuck this dude for saying regressive shit" than "he's right you know", right? That's my takeaway. To my nose, the stink of being someone who ignorantly told an actor to go fuck himself on a message board he'll never read washes off more easily than the reek of being someone who's just been hiding out and waiting to show their true internal feelings and agree with the faked "regressive left snowflake" comments.

Uh, let's not do that when, say, The Washington Post, LA Times, Boston Globe, BBC, AP, Reuters, NBC News, CBS News, NY Times, and for that matter any nationally respected newspaper or news wire service reports news.

Trump getting us to distrust the media so is part of the plan. The Daily Star, the source for this article, is trash. That doesn't mean we should treat all news journalism as trash. Hell, their original article post now 404s. Do you think that's how WaPo would handle it?

This is like when Morricone said Tarantino sucked, so an army of dudes piled on like YEAH I ALWAYS SAID HE SUCKED, only for that interview to be false. Got real quiet after that

That was legit hillarious, it just proves people love to hate. Some of those un-ironic takes were priceless. Suddenly he wasn't a good director because people can't tell the difference between homage and straight copying (cough true grit coen brothers cough). If it were that easy to be a director everyone would copy everything

Re : Rock Saudi Arabia and voting

I'm just gonna say it. People are fallible. People can make horrible mistakes in the things they say and do. Considering the amount of good he does, how positive a life he seems to lead, I do not think those mistakes of the Rock make him a flat-out "piece of shit" for life. Your mileage may vary.

For the people calling him a "a peice of shit" for that, I'm curious to what and how much they have contributed to society, and have they been infallible in life?

Was he asked about it or did he just go out and say it himself?

No idea

Johnson says he voted for Obama twice, but he didn't vote in 2016. "At the time, I just felt like it was either vote for the [candidate] I thought would make a better president than the other, even though I would rather have someone else, or not vote at all. I wrestled back and forth with it. We were on the set of Jumanji in Hawaii, and it really was like calling on the gods. Give me the answer. Ultimately, it was [to not vote]."

I think saying the gods told him not to vote is pretty weak shit

This is better at least

But it sounds like he may be having second thoughts. "The next elections, in 2020, I think I'll be a little bit more vocal in who I support," he says.

I don't really think there is anything wrong with what he said other than "God told me to", he should just admit that he didn't vote because either he didn't care to or didn't want to.
2016 wasn't just any election.

I'm not raging but I don't respect it and I certainly don't think you can say there's nothing wrong

my take, yes

And the people here agreeing with the quote even after it's revealed to them it's fabricated

So congrats on aligning yourself with a false statement written to upset/deceive? I guess...?

See yeah the difference to us versus Fox News watchers in being exposed to fake news, once the truth is out we can have some humility and apologize that we fell for it, Fox News watchers continue to ingest and ingest the shit

Did I see The Rock call Rupert Murdoch, literally one of the must disgustingly evil people alive, his "friend" in that Instagram post? Right after talking about the great meal he had with the murder prince of SA?

That's the first thing I've read in this thread that's made me think less of the guy.

Yeah I don't believe him. And why would anyone?

Er... why wouldn't they?

i'm just saying it's odd that you'd go after those who were taking issue with the original statement for being reactive - but were confused as to why people agreeing with the statement were being 'corny' according to that other poster. didn't mean to say that you were calling people corny.

It's understandable why people would just decide to not vote considering the two candidates involved and the almost certain impossibility of a third party winning.

Like fuck it is.

This was the easiest election decision known to human kind and the American voters fucked it up.

Don't give me this bullshit that it's understandable
