On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, the Los Angeles City Tourism Board of Commissioners held a regular meeting with updates on the tourism businesses of Los Angeles. In the accompanying Regular Meeting Packet, dated June 16, is on page 21 (part of Item 4c Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board Update) the following:

For clarity, it reads "* Includes E3 cancellations for 2024 & 2025". E3 2024 and E3 2025 were slated for June 11 and June 3 respective years, as previously reported. But both shows have now been cancelled.

On March 30, in the wake of the E3 2023 cancellation, GamesIndustry.biz asked ESA president and CEO Stanley Pierre-Louis if there would be an E3 2024:

Q: Is the plan for E3 to return in 2024?

SPL: We're committed to providing an industry platform for marketing and convening but we want to make sure we find that right balance that meets the needs of the industry. We're certainly going to be listening and ensuring whatever we want to offer meets those needs and at that time, we will have more news to share.

Curious to see where SGF goes from here. Seemed like a decent event this summer but I’m not super clear on what Keighley is actually doing differently than the ESA

Even with E3 gone, this past month still felt like e3 with all the direct shows and game reveals (just a bit more spaced out), so it's no biggie.

we’re all expecting this. Good to see confirmation though

Sounds like they don’t even want to bother offering a show unless they get people on-board . Makes sense, gives them time to talk and shop around without a hard 1 year deadline to make atm

This year's SGF brought the same level of excitement for me so I'm not sure I'm too upset about this...
E3 will live on through SGF

Aside from a few minor things like Sony going way earlier and Nintendo going a week later, plus no EA...this year's SGF was identical to 2019 E3.

Were there ever attempts to improve or reform the show? The format was in need of a massive update for over a decade and I’m honestly not sure what was or wasn’t tried.

No surprises there - it's as good as gone. Nobody's going to go back to E3 when they get the same results or better with their own presentations.

Midgar, With Love
There are people now who are old enough to have graduated college, experienced their midlife crisis, and entered the retirement phase since the last time we had a World War.

Really puts things into perspective - E3's been dead for some time now.
