You can claim that giving free games away is a EGS strategy to draw users but this has nothing to do with gaming sites reporting on games that are being made free for a limited amount of time. I can't think of a major site that doesn't mention what that new free game is up on EGS and that's because it is in the interest of their readers to know.

I checked few on last free games on Steam and PC gamer hadn't reported on those. (had reported on only two)
(They do seem reporting on giveaways of Steam keys though, but not all of direct from steam giveaways).

i REALLY doubt nintendo is gonna announce an EGS exclusive :)

I really doubt Nintendo is gonna release games on PC ;)

I guess this also explains PC Gamers' constant shilling for Epic and downplaying people's concerns.

Stuff like this is silly. The editorial arm and marketing arm of any publication are (should at least) always be separate from each other, and in the best case scenario should have no decisions with each other. The persons buying and selling the advert should not be aware of choices editors make.

But of course, implying that PC Gamer is bought by Epic is a big no-no.

Obviously their coverage of all related matters is totally uninfluenced by who pays their bills.

Obviously.

lol do you seriously expect a gaming publication not to publicize somebody giving out free games

https://www.pcgamer.com/epic-store-exclusives-are-worth-the-pressure-they-put-on-steam/

I need to find theior article about how "Eh, I'm not bothered by another launcher !"
I'll say the word a lot of people didn't want to say:
They were fuckin bought since the begining. Yes, sponsorship means money. Hence why you'll never see them taking a stance against their SPONSOR. :)

Hold on Durante, you're taking a terrible path here. How can you imply that professionnal gaming """journalists""" are not influenced by the company who's sponsoring their big E3 event ? :)

Yeah I don't watch too many E3 events anyway, but fuck Epic. Any game announced for a timed exclusive there is being added to the pile of games I'm waiting to come to Steam.

Really hoping the conference is a disaster in front of invested PC gamers.

They'll get up there and talk about how they are saving PC gaming. I've yet to figure out how they are, but that's how they justify their shitty store in their head.

This. Goddamn.

This industry has always been for sale, except now there isn't any PR talk or double speak to hide it.

The gaming press has always been more or less a PR machine. It's crazy that yet, it's seen as conspiracy to imply that private companies receiving compensation/gifts/sponsorship for promoting other companies stuff could be biased.

That's complete nonsense. Source: my history as editor/reviewer for several commercial game sites.

This has been painfully obvious from the start, but I wonder if the mods here will change their response to these complaints at all.
If I'm not mistaken, people were being banned over suggesting this.
Yeah, I got a 3 day ban for that. Would call PCGamer out again though.

Expected.

Will only watch if the Allies stream it. Otherwise pass.
And even then, i´m mostly interested how the crowd will react. And if the boos can be heard over the hollering of the epic shills in the crowd that 100% will be seated next to the mics.

At least i´ll get info on games that i´ll get for 3 bucks or so in a few years on steam or gog.

yeah, haven't heard of 90% of the developers listed. No need to tune in. If there's something really good it will get it's own thread & I'll check it out. Why call it the PC gaming show & not just let Epic do their own segment?

At least PC Gamer finally showed their true colors for the people still giving them the benefit of the doubt. Never giving them a click again.

I ve made a search about how Pc Gamer is covering the latest news and i really can not find a single piece of evidence about them being pro Epic. As much as i want to find a sidekick to the Epic villain , i think PC Gamer is not one.

The seem to be over enthusiastic when they announce the EGS free games but that is understandable due to the nature of the piece but i ve read them reporting the other marketplaces offerings too.
Having a lot of news coming from EGS is a thing that just happens recently and they do cover it.

And they also the Epic crunch piece of news with the fair criticism the issue deserves, if they had a strong relation with Epic they would n't had had this approach.

because theyre like trump

feel theyre owed whatever they want and they can get it with their money anyone downstream be damned, complain on twitter too much with stupid rhetoric proclaiming them as the only savior against imaginary enemies, and feel the need to have their name plastered on everything

Well seeing how for a long time even Japanese dev were not really on board for PC gaming, I have doubts, especially when for some JRPG the most you might get is closer to 200k than 1 million copies sold on PC.

Didn't Epic say something about checking the quality of the game before having it sold on the EGS? And well SE doesn't have the best track record when it comes to PC ports.

I do hope that EGS does not try to get Japanese games (since those are what I play) but if they could convince ATLUS/Vanillaware to release stuff on there that would be a different story
Yes but I doubt STEAM was paying them to sign up. If EPIC comes with a pile of cash the Japanese devs will fall over themselves and could even sign very long term contracts.

Just remember Microsoft did it before with the 360 and Japanese devs.

That really sucks, but who are we kidding, we're all going to watch it anyway.
Not really. I'm not interested in a show dedicated to one year delays on PC releases. I'd rather read a list later and just get all the disappointment together in a pack.

It'd be hilarious if the audience just boos them off stage for every exclusive game.

I'd buy a ticket for the show to do this if the plane tickets to the states weren't so expensive.

Yes, when I hear "PC Gaming", I also hear "bribed platform exclusives"

The fact that PC Gamer even mentions Epic's exclusivity deals in their PR for the PC Gamer Show, indicates how out of touch they are with the PC gaming community. Do they actually believe that pc gamers will be excited when reading this? Even people who don't mind using EGS won't be filled with joy by the fact that these games can't be bought in other storefronts.

It wasn't work, I have a full-time job as (non-gaming) developer. But yes, I moved on.

A lot of Japanese games barely work on Steam at all, even with the help of powerful tools like Steamworks, imagine being left to their own devices on the EGS.
