  • Epic Star Cards, the highest tier of Star Cards available at launch, have been removed from Crates. To help keep everyone on a level playing field, these Star Cards will primarily be available through crafting, with the exception of special Epic Star Cards available through pre-order, deluxe, and starter packs.
  • You'll need to reach a certain rank to craft upgraded Star Cards. You won't be able to buy a bunch of Crates, grind everything up into crafting materials, and immediately use them to get super powerful Star Cards. You can only upgrade the ability to craft higher tier Star Cards by ranking up through playing the game.
  • Weapons are locked behind specific milestones. While a select few will be found in Crates, the rest can only be attained by play. Want to unlock a new weapon for your Heavy? Play as a Heavy and you'll gain access to the class's new weapons.
  • Class-specific gear and items can be unlocked by playing as them. As you progress through your favorite class, you'll hit milestones granting you class-specific Crates. These will include a mix of Star Cards and Crafting Parts to benefit your class's development.

I think the changes are for the better. Of course people will still complain but at least they changed some things.

"We're Sorry"

I wonder how long these "Changes" will last until the Beta system is put back in.

Having the best things unlocked over time is a step in the right direction as well as actually unlocking things by spending time and experience on them instead of from a lootbox.

Sounds good, and it's great they've listened to feedback. Still not gonna pick it up on launch and will wait for sales but this helps with my purchase somewhat.

At least people were able to reach EA a bit with their concerns.
Oh don't get me wrong I agree. What amazes me is that the fix was so obvious yet it took so long to respond to the concerns. The Lootcrate issue and the promise of fixing it may actually work in EAs favour though because it has stopped people talking about just how boring and bland the game is (IMO). Battlefront for me just does not work within the confines of the Battlefield gameplay style.

That is a bit better but too bad the beta really showed me that I don't like how those maps and guns feel. Still gonna pass and maybe get it for the campaign when it hits bargain bin

Loot Boxes need to be regulated.

Gamers need to stop apologizing for the anti-consumer actions of devs. I've been playing Halo 5 since release (2 years ago), and I still don't have the unlocks that I want.

KillScreen did a great article (2 years ago) on how modern video game developers implement the same design principles as slot machines. This article could (should) be updated for the current conversation about loot boxes. https://killscreen.com/articles/gaming-and-casinos/

Good chances.

It's still bad that loot boxes are such a big part of the game.. But it's a step in the right direction.

Still too complicated. I like my solution to this.

Dont buy.

Much simpler.

Remains to be see how good it'll be, but EA / DICE will change things up if it causes problems. That's the beauty of service games: they evolve over time. And I'm pretty sure Disney isn't happy about the controversy re: lootboxes.

This is why I'm gonna wait until it hits the bargain bin to get it for the Single Player.

It's hardly a battlefield style though. It's some twisted hybrid that just doesn't work. It'd be more fun if it were more similar to battlefield (or the originals)imo. As it stands now, it's not good.

Sounds like a lose-lose situation, since progression will now gated AND favours people who pay.
What do you mean by gated?

Epic Star Cards, the highest tier of Star Cards available at launch, have been removed from Crates.
that bolded bit makes me think that the tiers will be raised over time. And even so, you earn things by leveling up the class you use over time.

What a mess, this isn't what they want people to be talking about this close to launch lol

Wouldn't be surprised if it followed other 2014 sequels in disappointing sales.

Nothing quite dampens a game's hype like loot boxes. Thinking about getting the game after the announcement of loot boxes makes me feel like I'm doing something immoral.

It's better and can prove to be what the game needed but people will still hate it from now until the next game comes out.

True test will be in 5months to see what people thought and what new users think.

Glad they did something for feed back, but I am not buying any $60 game with loot boxes.

I think this is a bit of an overreaction? No offense tbh.
There are quite a few maps and the story mode could be great. You either like that gameplay tbh or you don't

they do need to make money. If maps are going to be free post launch, there should be a way to make money over time.

Overwatch is great at its loot boxes
How does one make money

Maybe by selling things people genuinely want without resorting to extortion tricks.

Its more of a gut feeling than a thought out one. Seeing some reviews about great story content would definitely be more than enough for me to purchase and get over that initial thought.

While better, it doesn't seem like it would be too different after a couple weeks. There is progression now, at least, but it still would favor those who dump more money into it.

They aren't sitting on a machine that makes money for free.

So? Every game they put out is riddled with microtransactions, gold-silver edition crap and other money making schemes they can come up with and they are successful in their own right despite this displays of anticonsumerism.

EA is not a company that relies on post content payment to succeed, they do it cause they're greedy assholes and people buy into their shit.

This game will make its budget back after like the first 15 hours the skin will make so much money before the microtransaction is in it. Like this game is going sell least 15 million

I was very willing to give this a second look if their stance had changed drastically.

This isn't nearly drastic enough. I'm pretty down about it, too. I want to support DICE and the game looks gorgeous but...man.

Like most here, I'm pleased with the changes, but still don't think they're good enough, and will wait for a cheaper deal before buying (maybe i'll buy the GOTY edition for £4 in three years!).

I've got the original GOTY (among other things) to keep me plenty busy anyway. That's the fatal flaw in EA's plan - there's too much choice out there to waste money on glorified skinner boxes.

Without defending EA or the whole lootbox trend, it does seem like a big improvement over the originally planned implementation.

Let's face it, they were never going to completely remove them.

I see this as an acknowledgement from EA that they know what was planned was just too much, and their audience isn't willing to silently accept it. They could have just left it as it was, but they didn't.
