Tbh I tried watching the Digital Foundry thing on the xsx and I don't think it was any more accessible

I thought it was fascinating. Granted, I have a Masters Degree in Engineering so I'm certainly not the common person.

The audio stuff especially was incredible. They're essentially making long-range ASMR.

And that SSD stuff. And all the custom hardware... This things going to be a beast, albeit very specialised.

I think Hoeg put it really well on Twitter. It'll take some cross platform games to really be the judge of how good the console is.

Multiplat:

XSX will spit out better graphics. What that looks like, i don't know.

PS5 will load games faster. How much faster, I again, don't know.

My thing with these consoles was that the power of them was getting so stupidly high already. I question if the average person will see a difference.

Regardless, Xsx has the PS5 beat in everything but SSD.

We'll see how the price shakes out.

"Some Mana demo" is unfairly writing it off.

Hopefully they do cancel it, as taking a short break from a streaming series they've been doing for two years to instead play a demo people are excited for is the better movie.

Well it's not the better move for me and the many people who value the weekly hunts streams as some of their best content but sure, whatever. Cancel it for a demo.

I get if you're not personally interested in it. But again, writing it off simple with an "it's a demo, cares?" attitude is silly.

They as a group need to be able to react to current things in gaming. Notable demo drops is one of those things.

They as a group can do whatever they want as long as it's makes them happy.

Never Too Late to Dreamcast is seriously amazing. Some of those cuts in the latest episode are just so good.
Also, what a surprisingly gripping narrative for a racing game.

Wow. Haven't seen this before but look great.

Octopath is on sale, should I buy? Is the story pacing good and does it feel lively? I don't want to play something as repetitive as Bravely Default.

It absolutely gets repetitive but not for the same reasons Bravely Default did. I quite enjoyed my time with Octo and I bought it full price for $60 at launch, but the entire way the game is set up can lead to some fatigue. In a nut shell, because all the characters story lines are so disjointed from one another it can feel like the pacing is odd depending on which ones you play and which order you play them. Some characters have much stronger story lines than others too. If you just wanted to play certain characters stories till completion before starting others, you can also potentially throw off the games balance and be grossly over powered /over leveled when you go back for some of them. I honestly did enjoy this unique set up, however the ultimate pay off for clearing all the stories wasn't that great. You can probably get just as much enjoyment playing through the characters stories that intrigue you and not bothering with the others as not to get that repetitious feeling. The areas and dungeons, while pretty, don't offer much exploration other than a chest to loot here and there. Music, graphics and battle system are fantastic though. It's absolutely a solid game but not without fault.

It's more repetitive. Bravely Default doesn't start repeating itself until halfway or three quarters of the way through. Octopath has a formula. Arrive at town, 5 minute dialogue scene, use path action, watch 10 minute dialogue scene, dungeon crawl for 30 minutes, 15 minute boss fight, repeat. The good news is that the game breaks down into easily digestible chunks of predictable length. The bad news is how tiresome it gets when you try to binge the whole thing.

Don't buy the game, if the combat in Bravely Default didn't carry you through the boring bits. Download the Octopath Traveler demo, then play the Primrose chapter (the Allies also did a fun playthrough of this if you'd rather watch) and know you've tasted the best of what Octopath Traveler has on offer. If you're still intrigued, play the Olberic chapter as well and know that the eight campaigns on average line up closer with that level of quality.

Yeah I couldn't vibe with Octopath unfortunately. Glad it did so well, though! It had great music and artstyle but I got bored of the formulaic structure pretty quickly.

I played it for around 40 hours or so and while I loved the artstyle and the soundtrack and I really liked the game, I got bored when I needed to grind again to get a character up a couple of levels to go through with their story. Since I was using the same characters, I always had to grind the character I wanted to go through the story with since I was doing all the characters for each "level". I don't remember if you had to or not (I don't think so), so it might have been my own fault.

I am still glad I played it and I still think it's a good RPG and I don't want to say I will never go back to it, but I remember picking it up to grind a bit more and stop after 2 battles to never pick it up again afterwards.

I never played the Bravely Default/Second games, so I can't compare them, but I know my sister loved Bravely Default. That being said I just can't say Octopath isn't repetitive. It's weird, because I usually don't mind grinding, but I don't like having to grind to progress. I like grinding when I feel like it in games, but since you only level your characters that are in your party and all of them have their own story, it felt to me like I had to do some grinding with some of them. Especially since the battles aren't always easy, especially the boss battles.

It still made a good impression on me though (I still put it in my top 10 of that year irc). I bought it day one for full price as well and I'm still ok that I did, but for some reason I just couldn't go through with that specific part for some reason even though I did enjoy the combat system a lot.

So I guess I'm somewhat torn on the game. I still think it's a good game, it just stopped grabbing my attention for some reason and I'm not 100% sure why.

Is EZX Digital going to go on as intended or is it gonna switch to streams from home? I get they can take the necessary measures, and they're less than 10 people, but still...

Probably from their houses now I'm guessing after this

Edit: Apparently people in LA can still go to work if it's still open so maybe? Guess it's up to the allies

I feel bad that Kyle made that announcement before all of this stuff is happening in the US. I really hope all of his plans work out and he's not stuck in LA. Just want him happy.

Considering they're a business with less than 10 people, and not all of them will be there together anyway (i think it's like 3-4 people per stream?) they should be ok. If not i'd say hold off on it for a few weeks, solo streams from home won't really live up to what they had planned.

i don't think there's any reason to believe it will get less strict in a few weeks

Kyle's final days made get extended if this goes on for awhile and he can't physically leave LA at the end of April

Honestly, allies over skype sucks.

We were going to have this final week long group stream hurrah.

I'm sure we're still getting some form of that, but it's gonna be a shell of what it's supposed to be.
And Kyle ain't staying past April because I doubt they will forcibly keep people in LA.

This is all just some terrible terrible luck.

Yea I kind of wonder with this all going on if he may want to leave on a good note instead of all this. Especially if he doesnt get into his masters program and he cant travel. Could easily see him still leaving and would be surprised if he changed his mind but it wouldnt hurt to stay in a more stable position for a couple more months while the world is falling apart.

It's impossible to know if they will keep people in LA or not.
People are kept in a lot of countries in Europe at the moment and I heard people aren't even allowed to visit their seaside/second home (if they have one) here in Belgium either if they usually live somewhere else. And Belgium is tiny compared to most countries in the world, it's not that they would have to travel far to get there.

Who knows how exactly this will evolve over the next couple of weeks, but it will get worse first before getting better since most countries just waited way too long before taking action and because the numbers we have right now are the numbers of 1 - 2 weeks ago since it only shows after 1 or 2 weeks that you are infected.

That doesn't mean that it doesn't suck that they can't stream like they wanted to (I completely agree with that), but there isn't much that can be done about it and it just is impossible to plan something way in advance at the moment with all that's going on.

Kyle would be extremely wise to postpone his exit until later in the summer when hopefully the normal world returns. Otherwise its just reckless stubborness on show when fluid thinking is required at all times. Having a "work from home and play videogames" gig at this time but ditching it would be Top Ten Boneheads material.

He might even have to learn how to cook. Now THATS a show!

I'd be very ok with Kyle haunting the office for a couple of months. Not as it's new noisy neighbor but more of a Spirit of Group Streams Past ethereal kinda thing and nobody's really sure he's actually there and maybe eventually Ian puts up some more cameras around the office for a chance to acquire some footage like in that one Easy Update.

Edit: In all seriousness though I'm having mixed feelings about Kyle's goodbye in stages and I suspect it's just making things harder for some of the Allies. His departure will probably have been partly overshadowing the Allies' working environment for up to 4 months in the end
