Outside of kids I'm pretty relaxed which is why I'm somewhat wary of the 'newt' enemies in days gone, which are basically infected children.

TBH it's not the quality of the graphics I'd find off putting in a game, it's how they treat the violence. TLOU2 looks to be graphic but doesn't appear to revel in it, quite the opposite really. Whereas even now I find the bit in GOW3 where Kratos rips off Helios' head hard to watch as it lingers on the pain being inflicted and the tearing of flesh.

Aside from that, anything underwater where it's dark terrifies me to the point where the sub missions in GTA5 give me sweaty palms! Doesn't even have to be an enemy, could just be a big submarine hoving into view and I'd pap myself!

Humans or so aren't really a problem
You can see worse things (than any Studio ever would dare to implement) happening to humans on the internet already on daily basis so there is nothing "unknown" anymore.

Deep Sea and huge mutant monsters chasing you around and shit while maybe losing orientation?Yeah no thanks

It's not that odd. We're used to killing or seeing humans killed in fiction. It's why movies often use animal abuse for a cheap way to make you hate the "bad guy".

Sadly yes it's not that odd. The problem is that this attitude has seeped irl and not just fiction.

Yup. Don't see the equivalence

Suggests to me that he values the life of a dog more than a human's.

Human shoots back, dogs don't.

Not really. Plenty of random NPCs going about their daily lives get murdered in, say, RDR.

I remember playing Bloodborne at launch & my friend was really grossed out by the Spider in Nightmare of Mensis (you know the one) the very realistic fur shader sells it.

Children or anything childlike. I mean that's always been the case but the children zombies in Dying Light are just incredibly sad to me. Looks like Days Gone also has young ones as well.

Children are pretty much my only weak spot. I don't care for killing animals in general but I don't know how many I've killed to upgrade my gear in RPGs.

Edit: saw some people mention deep sea creatures and I am on board with that for different reasons of course. They scare the fuck out of me even if they're not realistic

Ok, a question popped in my head when I thought ghosts as a eny type.

Does good graphics lately warrants to a better horror game experience or the old graphics could do horror better because of the environment ?

Meaning Does better graphical clarity sometimes robs your ability to crate suspense in your mind which makes the game scarier. Like say Silent Hill's fog? Or indie experiences like Slender man ?

There were a lot of people accusing TLOU2 of being unnecessary gore porn. while I'm sure there is some truth to that, it seems to me most of it is just cause of how fucking realistic it looks.

So humans.

Yeah, this. I fear games involving humans and violence might become too uncomfortable for me next gen.

Also, perhaps as a father of 3, anything involving children and they being in uncomfortable positions.

Yeah, it's pretty Damn scary because of the unique behaviours of the sea life that makes for an unpredictable intensity. Adam Millard did a great video essay on how Subnautica uses terror.

That was a fascinating video, and a great explanation for the differences between horror and terror, the differentiation of which I've never considered before. You've sold me completely, time to start keeping an eye on sales so I can get the game as soon as possible.
