Yeah I just started EOV after finishing EOU2 and it feels very clean and new.Picked up EOV and couldn't stop myself blitzing first stratum in a night, despite still having the two Untold games still untouched. Really digging how polished the gameplay feels, but had no idea the overworld was gone and I'm a little disappointed as the feeling of an epic journey/world exploration is gone.
The overworld wasn't really a thing in EO other than IV, it's a specific feature to this game. Generally the game works off the concept of a single long dungeon that goes up or down(depends on the game). Kinda why they're called Stratums, the term didn't make much sense in EOIV. Interestingly though the world map coming back for EO X. It was definitely an interesting feature so I like it, and it lets them put a lot more environments into the game(which since they're taking from all the past games, they have a lot of).Picked up EOV and couldn't stop myself blitzing first stratum in a night, despite still having the two Untold games still untouched. Yeah I'm aware it was just a IV thing, I've played PQ as well, I just assumed they'd continue with it because it really made the game feel like a huge exploration of maps within maps. It really opened things up and added variety and scale. Glad it's back for EOX, although it seems less interactive. The overworld wasn't really a thing in EO other than IV, it's a specific feature to this game. This is a great boxart. We've come far from the early days of the EO1 US boxart lol.
Fiiiiiiine.
https://www63.atwiki.jp/ssekaiju_maze2Does anyone know if there is a Japanese wiki for Etrian Odyssey series? I played the games in English, but I want to look up what the Japanese names for some things are.
That's helpful, thanks!https://www63.atwiki.jp/ssekaiju_maze2
That's untold 2, there's links to the other games on the frontpage. There might be other wikis but that's the one I used when I wanted info I couldn't find on english sources.
This is the first time I'm playing post-game content in an Etrian Odyssey game but now I see what you meant, it actually makes me wonder why Hall of Darkness wasn't part of the main game anyway because there's a lot of story content there too.You aren't done with the game until you finish he post-game dungeon and kick the ass of all the dragons.
Post-game of EO is basically part of the main game.
You don't wanna take your party up to lvl 99 and try again? So in the meantime most of my characters got to LV70 in Etrian Odyssey IV. I spent many hours mapping the floors in Halls of Darkness post-game dungeon, mixed all the gasses to weaken the boss and he's still way beyond what my party can handle. I guess I'll just leave it there because i don't really want to create new characters and grind them all the way up again. It's been a ride.

Can I fight the dragons without finishing Halls of Darkness?
Regarding LV99, I wouldn't even know how to level my characters beyond LV70 :)
Dragons raise the level cap AND drop materials from some good equipment. Can I fight the dragons without finishing Halls of Darkness?

I really liked the way that was designed in IV, where you could fight a crazy insane superboss or make it a bit easier on yourself if you put in a little extra work. It's a shame EOV didn't do something similar.Speaking of which, I beat the game about two weeks ago. 6th Stratum boss wasn't too bad, but I had already gotten my rested, retired-at-30 main party up to 95 beforehand. So it took only a couple tries to take it down with chemicals. Great fight for sure.
Now I've bitten the bullet and used my remaining gift money on EOV and its FM-synth DLC. But I'm gonna wait to go any further.
Boss in the 4th stratum 16f of EOIII is frustrating, lost 5 times in a row now..
Yeah, have Buccaneer/gladiator
Monk/prince, Hoplite/ninja, Zodiac/Arbalist, Ninja/Zodiac
May have to rest or retire because I am overlevled and still struggling,
I'd pick up EOV- it's one of the best EO games and you could be waiting a long time for EOX.Should I buy Etrian Odyssey V or just wait for Etrian Odyssey X?

How different is it from Etrian Odyssey IV or the Untold titles? I've played those and I never did get much difference between them.
It's a quicker play than EOIV due to no balloon navigation and mini-maps, but the character development/team synergy is just as sublime. No sub-classes but prestige specialisations instead allow for a more focused build rather than the raw freedom of IV to subclass anyone into almost any role. How different is it from Etrian Odyssey IV or the Untold titles?
