Multi-hyphenate Eva Longoria has landed the directing job for Flamin' Hot, the Fox Searchlight biopic about Richard Montanez who created the spicy Flamin' Hot Cheetos. DeVon Franklin will produce the pic under his Franklin Entertainment label, which is currently under a production deal at Fox.

Longoria reportedly beat out multiple directors for the job after impressing Franklin and Fox with her authentic approach to portraying Richard and Judy Montanez inspiring story. Richard rose from humble beginnings to achieve the American Dream. The son of a Mexican immigrant, Richard was a Janitor at Frito Lay when he came up with the idea for Flamin' Hot Cheetos. His creation, inspired by the flavors of his community, revitalized Frito-Lay and disrupted the food industry, creating a pop culture phenomenon that continues today.

The airline magazine on my last flight had an article about her. She's focused on improving diversity in Hollywood in a variety of ways, so more power to her. Based on the title it sounded dumb, but reading the actual story this sounds kind of cool.

I mean, it's a biopic. Makes sense. Biopics are made on some of the most mundane things.

When I skimmed the OP I thought this was about that SNL skit where they pitch a commercial about immigration and the American Dream for the Cheetos Superbowl ad

"We open on a little immigrant girl. She's dusty, she's tired, she's come a long way. She looks up and sees a wall. How will she get over it? A boy appears at the top. He throws down a rope. The rope is made of American flags. The girl climbs the rope. She sees her new country for the first time, and she cries."

[Hard cut]

"Cheetos."

The title threw me because it said Cheetos movie but reading what the plot actually is that could be a cool story as a biopic.

Your screenwriters were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.

I'm down for a movie but that headline is definitely something to make you double take
