Last night I woke up, heart racing.

I'd been dreaming I was hiding from some armed people who were looking for me, and some younger person I don't recognise from real life.

To sum it up, it was a full on stealth section from The Last Of Us, but put in a different type of scenario (i.e. it wasn't a zombie dream). I was peeping around corners; I'm pretty sure the 'camera' was over my shoulder; I crept over a half-height open window; and a broken mug (not bottle) gave away my position. And as noted above, I even appeared to be escorting a younger person.

I rarely remember dreams, and I don't think I've had a nightmare in years, but this was 100% TLOU mechanics in my dream. And I haven't played that game for some time.

The only other instance I can think of this happening to me is Tetris dreams way back in the day, when that's all I would play for hours on end.

Anyone got some similar examples?

Had a dream once where I fought a giant, dark red Lynel in castle courtyard. Landed a few hits, show how little it did to its health bar, then ran away and hid.

If I play any game for an extended time late into the night and go to bed immediately after, I'll sometimes dream that I'm still playing the game. It's a little weird, I'm not in the game itself, I'm definitely playing the game yet I'm in the TV if that makes any sense. Like VR of a game not really made for it. Happens a lot with Overwatch. I'll just dream I'm playing more matches.

I almost never dream, but when I do, they're these long, boring, meandering dreams that are way too set in reality. That said, when I was 13 (the year Super Mario 64 released), one of those dreams featured me being able to fly in all three of the ways that Mario had been able to fly: raccoon tail, cape, and flight cap. They were at different points in my otherwise overlong and mundane dream, but it was so exhilarating each time that I still remember it.

I accidentally performed a Mikiri Counter on my slightly-opened laptop as I was trying to go over it. The Mikiro Counter is from Sekiro where you forcefully step on an enemy's blade as they attempt to thrust you.

I'll dream of repetitive combos from games all the time. Lately I've been dreaming of performing Monster Hunter World combos with the gunlance because of how meditative that game gets. If you play it for a long time you start to internalize the optimal combo and perform it unconsciously. The same goes for FFXIV, where I dream of my Black Mage rotation now and then.

On the other side of things, I sometimes dream of really mindblowing trailers for upcoming games that I'm very excited about, my mind fabricating things I want to see. I did this a lot with imaginary dream FFXV trailers and more recently have had a few dreams of FFVIIR.

When I first played dark souls 1 at launch, I would dream about playing it and beating whatever had kicked my ass the day before.

Yes. A lot of stealth. Crawling through vents, causing distractions, and the like. I've also dreamt of cover mechanics like gears of war. Most recently, dice rolls from listening to DND podcasts.

When Doom came out it was such a crazy new immersive experience that I had several vivid dreams about it.

The one thing I remember is picking up a health pack, opening it up, and it had needles, scalpels and syringes in it and I realized I would need to actually use them on myself and freaked out.

It's hard to specify, but I often dream in dream logic. So when I wake up I'm like "that was very video-gamey". Not so much in what hapoened, but in how it happened, the mechanics of it, like walking or jumping.

Yeah, some years ago when Super Hexagon released, I just couldn't stop playing, if I had free time, I used it to play the game and try to go from the first stage to the last.
It got so bad I ended up dreaming about it.

Not very often. I barely remember any dreams.

However, last night I had a vivid dream about Apex Legends. The final circle was closing in around the train, and for some reason the train was stopped over an abyss. There were about 3 squads left and it was a clusterfuck, but I somehow managed to clutch it by punching nearly everyone off the train to their doom.

Woke up and wanted to hit the PS Share button... Then I was sad because it wasn't real.

i once had a "nightmare" that i was being "chased" by a hurricane

In the middle of the dream I discovered that the hurricane only started moving after I did some "checkpoints" like it was not moving when I was inside a house rushing to save the family inside, but as soon as I jumped out of the window the hurricane would catch up. And then I stopped moving and I was at a fixed distance of a hurricane =P
It felt like those out of bounds video where you see the assets waiting to be used

Well I once had a dream about FF XV where I was riding into Insomnia with Noct and the gang. The game wasn't even out yet. I remember the banter in the car and teleporting around the city. It was a pretty good dream man...

Only with games where time melts away and you look up and it's suddenly 4 a.m. so Civ 6, the one more turn is real, and Elder Scrolls 4 and 5, just tinkering about collecting things for no reason usually, why yes I do want a complete set of the armour worn by the guards in every city....oh look it's 4 a.m. So Dreams can happen with those types of games. My mind is flooded with them as I try to go to sleep and can seep into my dreams.

Yeah I was once flying at night over an area with hills and forests and when I landed I noticed the polygons. In my dream I was 'that's actually pretty impressive how good this looks until you're that close! It was kinda like a modern take on a Final Fantasy world map.

I used to do it, but lately I've been sleeping much better so I haven't been remebering my dreams.

I had some dreams that focused on respawn mechanics though. They were prettty awesome.

Most recently, dice rolls from listening to DND podcasts.

That's like a whole other level - your brain being its own RNG.

The one thing I remember is picking up a health pack, opening it up, and it had needles, scalpels and syringes in it and I realized I would need to actually use them on myself and freaked out.

That's the type of unexpected turn a dream can take which makes you realise "Holy cow, if I really had to do the things I do all the time in games, it would be a living nightmare".

... when I was 13 (the year Super Mario 64 released), one of those dreams featured me being able to fly in all three of the ways that Mario had been able to fly: raccoon tail, cape, and flight cap. They were at different points in my otherwise overlong and mundane dream, but it was so exhilarating each time that I still remember it.

When I was a kid I had a vivid dream about growing a raccoon tail and being able to fly.

This sounds awesome - it seems the "Mario effect" on a generation knows no limits!

I dreamt that I could perform a Hadoken by literally moving my body forward, down, and down-forward and yelling HADOKEN.

I've had imagery from games show up in dreams, but never a dream where I was dealing with game mechanics, at least not that I can remember. I do have lots of film influence in my dreams though, with camera angles and, once, credits...
