Sonic's main territory obviously hasn't been Japan in forever, but oof. Frontiers opened at ~46k (across three platforms, we'll see what this totals when we get 11-30).

Third biggest retail Mario launch in Japan (behind NSMB Wii at 936k and NSMB DS at 865k), there's a decent chance that it's #1 with digital accounted for.

Poor Sonic. A coughing baby against Mario's nuclear bomb

Oh wow, that's a lot of wowie zowies.
Even more considering the ratio of launch and LTD sales of a game like Mario compared to any other games. Will have huge boost this holidays and long legs, seems a big growth for the 2D Mario

Seems a bit low for Spider-Man (SM1's first week was 125k), but given that Mario was this week and the general state of PS5 software sales in Japan, it's about what would be expected.

Impressive sales for a retro Mario just for Japan. I can tell there's a lot of people interested in this game overall, as the reviews for Wonder get a lot of views

That's a way worse opening than Frontiers for Sonic Superstars. What an idea to launch on the same week as another signature IP of the same genre.

This should be a pretty big indication that digital has become a bigger factor than some people seem to think.

Switch hardware moving 61K this week is pretty….average. Mario Wonder not a much of a hardware mover, but that's expected 6.5 years into a life cycle

Nintendo didn't mention that Super Mario Wonder was the best Super Mario game launch in Japan in their PR as of 9am EST so I dont know how it makes sense for the game with digital to be the top selling game. If it was, Nintendo would have mentioned it. To me it seems that SMW + digital is less than NSMB Wii's 935k. which pegs the digital rate at ~30%

Wonder already moved hardware 2 weeks ago when the Mario themed Switch Oled launched. Believe it was 100k or something? I'd also not be surprised if a lot of Japanese players used a digital voucher for Wonder.

Wonder sales with digital look fairly close to the DS/Wii years of 2D Marios, possibly could be a little higher. If anything right at what you would expect with the hype, not really less or more. Nintendo's probably very happy.

Who ever is in charge of Japan at Sony... I have to wonder what they were thinking killing stock ahead of one of their biggest games of the year.

Why would you release another 2d platformer in the same week as mario.

Pretty crazy for 3 days of sales.

RIP Sonic, those numbers are pitiful, while I don't imagine they'd be much better any other week it definitely didn't help releasing the same week as Mario.

Pikmin 4 gonna be at 1,000,000 by the end of the year?

Probably, if not it'd cross just into the new year. It's well over a million already, as this is just the physical copies.

I feel like they could have timed the Spider-man/new playstation better, but Sony are probably hoping they can just make it up once the slim comes out.
