Far Cry 5 had written "smash success" all over it.I thought this was going to bomb a month ago. I thought the same with wildlands. I'm gonna stop thinking when it comes to Ubisoft lol.

That shit is insane..Looks like launch week is bigger than Assassins Creed 3, smaller than The Division.
Possibly on track to be the second biggest launch for any Ubisoft game ever.
Assassins Creed 3 sold 3.5 million units WW launch week. I fully expect Far Cry 5 to be ahead of that
They have the best marketing team in the entire industry. Bar none. Nobody can compare with Ubi on this front in terms of consistent performance.
Isn't this exactly the split in UK for hardware?
Split is about 57% PS4 43% XBO
Data is from Game digital PLC i assume.
Ps4 vs Xbox One ratio increased slightly to 1.3:1 from 1.2:1 earlier in the gen.
GoW will sell a tonne in the UK, and WW.Damn, it seems like this gen breaking records for all sorts of franchises isn't it in the UK?
Far Cry best debut
Uncharted best debut
3D Mario best debut
Zelda best debut
Pokémon best debut
With new IPS such as The Division, For Honor, Wildlands, Horizon Zero Dawn, Bloodbourne, Splatoon, and ARMS killing it.
Sheesh
God of War will probably have its best debut worldwide too.
Sony, Ubisoft, and Nintendo making bank lol
Far Cry 5 (All Formats) ~ 200,000-210,000 units
I don't think I am missing another Ubisoft title that may have sold more than the top 5 I posted.
A reminder that packaged sales no longer show the full picture anymore.
The actual total including digital sales on all platforms is close to double that.
In other words, the opening for Far Cry 5 was huge in the UK. Bigger than quite a number of AAA games.
Close to double according to Zhuge so not quite
Still an insane launch with CRAZY franchise growth
Bigger launch than major other franchises, this has 5M 1st week locked.
I estimated 5 million+ a few days ago and still fully believe that it will hit that number as well
Great news, good for Ubisoft
So, it might be 11-14,000 units for 2nd week. Ouch
If the opening week was roughly 22K and the following week saw a drop of 52% drop. Then Gamepass or not, 33K in two weeks at retail, is a disaster.
I am sorry but only a marketeer in profession could come with ...marketing as the reason that lately ubi gets praise -and apparently- sales. They have the best marketing team in the entire industry. Bar none. Nobody can compare with Ubi on this front in terms of consistent performance.
If you said it's a disaster at retail only, then fair enough.
But when Microsoft's whole goal is to increase game pass subscribers then your comment makes no sense at all.

their games are good, they have a good quality within the game. that's what counts, and marketing is good only to supplement, not to create.
I feel that is incredibly unfair. This game was not greenlit with gamepass in mind. Gamepass as a service is still in its very early stages and one big release isn't really a measure of it's success yet, especially with the free trial option.
ZhugeEX is absolutely correct in regards to Sea of Thieves
Also while the marketing team for Ubisoft is indeed fantastic they aren't the real MVP's. The market research team they have in place are the real secret stars there. 2nd to none imo

Microsoft had been planning a variant of what is now game pass for years, the Xbox One has the 360 Bc hardware in it because they were planning on doing something with 360 games as part of a service, Fable Legends was intended to be part of a service.
I don't belive that game pass was simply and idea someone came up with in order to combat the flagging Xbox On sales, it had been on the cards for a number of years. I suspect that game pass had existed as a concept prior to Sea of Thieves
To me Gamepass stats are an obfuscation, a blatant attempt to hide from XBOX's retail reality. Greenbergs tweets and Microsoft's PR surrounding this IP is something many take as testament to that fact.
I firmly believe that NPD will be a PR nightmare for them because of what many gamers take to be purposely misleading statements about the games success. But we'll have to wait and see.

Game Pass has been out for a year but I hear 93% of Xbox users waited to use the 14 day free trial for Sea of Thieves, think they might use it again for State of Decay 2 and Crackdown 3.
That doesn't change the fact that Sea of thevies was not greenlit as part of that model
first of all dont mix things, as content has absolutely nothing to do with marketing. No sorry dude. Ubisoft knows it's markets INCREDIBLY well. It's games are good but they sell because of 2 things. Content and marketing.
The game was revealed 3 years ago. It was greenlit 4 years ago. If gamepass was a thing in its current format 4 years ago, it's tantamount to incompetence for it to have taken so long to implement.

Are you saying that me getting the game for free is better than me purchasing the game at retail? To be clear I did stipulate that 33K at retail was an absolute disaster. But as a UK gamer whose online PSN/XBL friends are mainly from the EU, from what they tell me, SOT didn't register any other EU country. Now obviously that's anecdotal evidence and I'm not a numbers guy, but I trust what I've been told. So I'm wondering how does Gamepass help in that situation? Was SOT 100% digital?

Yes, that is what I just said.
Unless you work for another global technology provider who works in the consumer entertainment network space, I don't think that you'll really have any idea as to just how simple something is to implement.
