The Far-Right presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro was stabbed during a rally today. Bolsonaro is currently leading the opinion polls for the presidential election in October: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...stable-condition-after-stabbing-idUSKCN1LM2YJ
BRASILIA (Reuters) - Brazil's front-running far-right presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro is in serious but stable condition in hospital following "successful" surgery after he was stabbed while campaigning on Thursday, his running mate said.

General Antonio Hamilton Mourao, Bolsonaro's running mate, told Reuters by telephone that the candidate's condition was stable but still worrying.

"He underwent surgery, which was successful and he is doing OK," Mourao said. "But his state remains delicate."

The attack on Bolsonaro is a dramatic twist in what is already Brazil's most unpredictable election since the country's return to democracy three decades ago. Corruption investigations have jailed scores of powerful businessmen and politicians, and alienated infuriated voters
Video:

Suspect was arrested. He confessed, according to the Police. He said he was fulfilling a order from God. In his Facebook was found messages against the masonry and Brazilian politicians. Accordingly to his family, he was a evangelical missionary, and has not been seen since 3 years ago. He was a member of Socialism and Freedom Party from 2007 until 2014.

Is it a call for violence to say good? Although only superficial, meh, if he recovers he will come out better in the polls.

I've said before that it was only a matter of time before "punch Nazis" became "kill Nazis". This guy is a piece of shit, so I'm not about to say I feel sorry for him, but I don't know what else to say beyond shit's getting fucking scary out there.

You act like this is the first time a candidate has been attacked.

Violence is the never the answer.

And should be noted that the fact that you can't see blood in any footage mixed with the fact that he LITERALLY said that gunshots against the left president were forged by their own political party does raises some questions.

And see Bolso, isn't that great that in Brazil we can't buy weapons on the supermarket like you want?

Only privileged people think unrest is more frightening than a far right political leader in a position of power.

I never said nor acted like that. I said the current political climate is scary.
Bro, your implication there is clear as day. You're saying "punch Nazis" will evolve into "kill Nazis" and this means that political candidates will be murdered and it'll be the fault of people saying "punch Nazis".

Why this guy getting stabbed even made you think of people saying 'punch nazis' is beyond me.

Because he's a fucking Nazi? Also, because there was a thread on the first page just a short while ago about the guy who assaulted some other Nazi getting fined a dollar, with people in said thread clamoring to punch a Nazi.

The thing is, he was already with a very low chance of winning when things got to the second phase of the election according to the latest research but now who the fuck knows what will happen.

So you genuinely believe that Americans saying "punch Nazis" lead to this Brazilian politician getting stabbed? Or if not this one, future politicians? Like I said, you act like the concept of Politicians getting attacked or even killed is something new. It's not like "punch Nazis" was the catalyst to cause some massive change that made people think, "okay yeah, I should kill Politicians".

I think we're developing a culture, gradually, where political violence against the opposition is seen as not only acceptable but outright favorable.

I mean... the candidate openly and repeatedly advocates violence against the other, and one of his main proposals is giving police the right to kill without any scrutiny...

If you advocate violence... dont be surprised when violence is used against you.

Tell that to Lincoln, Gandhi, JFK, MLK, Malcolm X or almost the daily Mexican Politicians that are murdered.

'Punch Nazis' isn't 'developing a culture', chill out.

As I said, he's a shitty individual, but this assault may very well be what ensures his victory now.

If he would become a martyr than Marina would have been elected instead of Dilma... but last time marina didn't even got into the second part of the election.

Most meaningful revolutions say otherwise.

Fair.
Hurting a politician while in voting phase is never the asnwer

We should wait he gets elected and do some civilised beheading in a public place.

Those things are not related. You should probably check on the political history of Brazil.
Hey, you laugh now, until they're the ones punching and stabbing. You really think Nazis aren't going to have issue with fighting back and even escalating things further?
Wait, do you think punching Nazis will have any effect on what they will do when in power? It doesn't matter if you punch them or if you leave them alone: Nazis will always 100% of the time escalate things either way and start murdering people. They are psychopaths.

Bullshit... Not every cancer can be talked down.

I'm not advocating violence here, I don't know the situation. But this idea that violence has no place in people fighting against oppression is naive.

Reminder that Latin American left and right is completely different to the US version. Democrats are pretty much Latin American center-right.

Honestly, Bolsonaro's uprising reminds me of Trump, initially a meme that no one took seriously until the far-right adopted them.

Scary times ahead

Polítics is the exercise of power. The only power that the powerless have is violence. Violence is politics.

Violence is violence. I hope the attacker faces justice and the victim fully recovers (and then loses his election).

Agreed.

So you think some people need to be stabbed?

Your posts in this thread are bad.

Punching Nazis has nothing to do with this.

This is because the man who was stabbed preaches violence and is campaigning to give police kill rights amongst other frigtjtening things.

He was stabbed because of his own agendas and actions. Nothing more.
