Skullgirls had years of buzz- it was mentioned on SRK first in the mid-2000's , came in just ahead of most of the big name titles that year, and had most of its fanbase be non-FGC due to the awesome art.

It almost happened to me too. I was reading a lot of publications hyping the M2 and was in the process of selling a lot of games UNTIL they announced the M2 was cancelled.
