thats what surprises me if there is an MVC4 game being developed this soon. Marvel was so controlling on MVCi that I'm surprised Capcom is willing to work with them again this soon.
It may matter who "they " are as well. They may not be dealing with the same crowd if the older rumors are true that claim Combofiend went on to be a Disney guy and now he's the rep. That'd make a relationship very easy since he was the Capcom guy before. It'd essentially be seen by capcom as now "their man" is calling things for them on the other side so things play their way more and they get the proper kind of support and understanding in discussions.
MvC:I still sold a shit ton. Undoubtedly a commercial success (especially if it had the tiny budget we presume), despite the damage it did to Capcom and MvC's brand.
The biggest problem for these games and Capcom's fighting games has ALWAYS been the budget, outside of SFxTK, which was a game that didn't know what it wanted to be. It's really the case with much of the games industry nowadays. I'd rather a decent budget than any particular subset of characters.
It was guaranteed to sale 1 mil, despite the bad press. Don't think it got to 2 mil plus Capcom did describe the sales for Infinite as "weak" so I don't think I would say it sold a shit ton... The damage to the brand from MvCi is the major thing however, many would be hesitant in buying a new mvc game based on past experience from mvci. It probably won't even be announced for probably 2 years minimum but based on the rumors, them seemingly in development this soon makes me surprised that they signed pen to paper with marvel so soon after mvci. How SF6 turns out will be the biggest barometer of success for mvc4, so I can't wait to see what they are going to do with that game.
Agreed. Hopefully though if even half the old rumors are true a new page is being turned on the series and its being reviewed as a good idea presented in the wrong manner, at the wrong time, with the wrong amount of effort. Marvel vs Capcom has power to move numbers. Its undeniable. If viewed for what it did for its budget vs its competition its not bad at all just not realistically something that should've been expected to move numbers like an MK11 or something for what it had behind it at the time.
Only thing for certain is that there has been a lot of talk in the past 8 months from rumor folks and players in odd comments or outright leak attempts and all of it follows old patterns of how folks acted before the MVC3/UMVC3 stuff was revealed after a year or more of that sorta pattern if I recall. Its a good sign. Hopefully it comes true. Capcom has been making some really good moves lately and restoring a lot of great titles with new IP and remakes.
If I see more talk, hints or whatever I'll post. Only thing I haven't done is search key folks on game credits and divisions at capcom and marvel and follow their social media to watch for hints or outright accidental comments like the xbox guy had with Janemba recently. All I get to do on breaks at the plant is surf the phone so maybe I'll spot something. If not...pretty fun seeing the community these days. Lots of MVC2 streams, MVCI vids and random twitch/twitter vids for vs stuff lately.
