I had trouble with the idea of this myself but...
That makes more sense

Id rather have a more curated experience than open world for PT 2.
But I understand I am in the minority.
I'm with you.
People are misremembering the openness of the world in original VII as it is. The story took you from point to point extremely linearly and there were only a handful of reasons to ever go back to old locations, and those were primarily to get an ultimate weapon or something. They could rearrange those item locations very easily to keep the flow going.
I think people are mostly thinking about flying the Highwind or riding a gold Chocobo when they think of the open world. It'll be interesting to see how they do that, but there's no way they're dedicating Midgar-level resources to every town in the game. Nibelheim is maybe the second most important location in terms of story and that shit is one screen and the Shinra mansion in the original game.
I do hope Wutai is a lot bigger. The city/country went to war with Midgar; it needs to look bigger than a tiny village.
I think if it was about 4 episodes, Wutai will be mandatory since they'll put a lot more effort into expanding the forests and mountains and in this episode the terrain will change, like with the snowy northern continent being included as well and sea travel.I do hope Wutai is a lot bigger. The city/country went to war with Midgar; it needs to look bigger than a tiny village.
I know I sound like a broken record but I really hope they don't just completely ditch materia or give it some kind of irrelevant backseat role in the combat. Perhaps expand on them, like by giving each materia further development/customization.

They've already confirmed that the Materia system is mostly the same as before. Some materia will be removed (or at least heavily reworked) because they don't necessarily work in an action RPG (stuff like "Exit", "Sneak Attack" and probably Double Cut), but they'll also add materia that will fit the action RPG-y combat.I know I sound like a broken record but I really hope they don't just completely ditch materia or give it some kind of irrelevant backseat role in the combat. This, i am willing to bet that sephiroth will fight Cloud at the end of this game. Not just an overglorified Rufus battle on top of shinra. I would not be surprised if we took Red XIII and had to hide out in Midgar with shinra troops everywhere. On top of flash backs and other content. and a lot more Turks. With that e3 trailer, we are definitely fighting sephiroth by the end of this game... .Even though it is "just midgar" and even though that is not what really happened in the original,You dont want 40 hours of OLD Midgar. Nobody does, there's not enough content there. But this isn't OLD Midgar anymore, this is something new and different. You're not going to do the exact same story beats but at a slower pace, they're changing things up, expanding and adding.
The fact that people are still in the mindset of "It's going to take 40 hours just to do what it used to take 5 to do" is ridiculous to me. Shows just how close minded people are being about the remake.
true, but I think we are getting a meaty game regardless. Surely it cannot be a 10-15 hour thing. I think folks would riot if that is the case. It will be at least the length of FFXV me thinks. The 2 discs just mean it has a large data size. This doesn't necessarily mean a long game - it could mean a bunch of high-quality FMVs, or a lot of unique assets, or even just a lack of compression. In RDR2's case it was due to the game being long and detailed and loaded with a great number of custom assets, but this isn't guaranteed.
Like, did you know that while the original FFVII used 3 CDs to hold about 1.6GB of data, the actual game part was only 200MB? Each disc holds the 200MB game file plus FMVs, and the disc change points were decided based on the placement of the FMVs. For all we know, FFVIIR could be only a 20-30-hour game but with high-detail assets and 50GB of 4K FMVs (though I do think it'll be at least as long as FFXV).

yeah, and if you ask me, i was slightly salty when i found out while playing that XV didnt include the FMVs shown during the 2013 -2015 previews. I love the visual works cgi scenes and intros and lengthy scenes during FF games. Even if it is talking or impove lrtant scenes.I agree, probably as long as that or XIII. I'm just saying that the disc size doesn't actually prove anything.
Cannot wait to see him interacting with the party. Hopefully jumping on walls and doing acrobatic flips.

So, Before Crisis, the JP only flip-phone FF7 prequel, is finally playable in English.
Someone ported it to rpgmaker and translated it, and now its freely available instead of being lost to the annals of time.

Honestly I am not sure if I would want fully open world even for next-gen. Next-gen console will obviously have more power and can make beautiful open world, but I don't really trust the team to do a good open world without making any sort of sacrifices. I wouldn't mind zoned worlds like FFXII/DQXI, but much bigger and better looking. As long as the world looks beautiful I am happy.anyone else looking forward to this second part of this remake for PS5. Surely with nextgen, they can really make use of a big open world in this quality. I think it has the potential to feel like an exponential leap or something like XVs world on steroids. I am not going to get ahead of myself and imagine the airship, but it should be good.
I still used my BradyGames strategy guide from 20 years ago to get the Platinum on the PS4 version, it was fine enough. I just had to use a seperate GameFAQs guide to guarantee the Barret date.I'm just about done with my re-playthrough of the switch release. I've done everything except grind out some more master materia and defeat emerald/ruby, though I'm closer to doing that than I've ever been in my life. About 41 hours, which seems short. Partially due to the 3x, also today's guides seem much better than what I remember (seriously only spent ~1hr or two getting gold chocobo, seemed like a bigger undertaking as a kid).
I don't really understand how Corel can be so down in the dumps. They have the sole entrance/exit to the worlds biggest theme park, that town should look like Orlando/Anaheim.
Mine is somewhere around here, but online (mostly the one at jegged.com) there have been several times where they have gone into more detail about how things work under the hood, that I don't remember the books way back when covering. I guess in official guides they may restrict talking about programming errors or glitches or etc. I never knew you would whitewind those ghost ship guys to insta kill them, or that you didn't need to S-rank both your breeding chocobos, or a few other things.I still used my BradyGames strategy guide from 20 years ago to get the Platinum on the PS4 version, it was fine enough. A lot of older FF games with world maps were linear until you got an airship or means to travel the majority of the world. But, before that, they've basically been region to region/area to area linearity within the boundaries of mountains and oceans. FFVII, you don't get the Highwind under after disc 1. You are basically at the mercy of your limited means of exploration, and that include starting off on the Midgar region(Midgar, Kalm, Chocobo Farm) and linearly working your way through the game and across the world:Yeah, the game had the possibility for exploration, which was great and should be kept, but it had a lot of linearity too. The overworld was to make the adventuring environment feel more real, to a degree. And in a story where the Planet is alive, it's cool to give it a "physical" presence as you play.
I think the biggest reason I have seen people say SE is unlikely to put Genesis into the game is because of the characters likeliness to the Japanese voice actor, and it'd be expensive and whatnot to include the character (this is regardless of anyone's personal feelings to Genesis and his story)
But would Record Keeper need to do the same kind of contract for the likeliness? Could this potentially increase the likelihood of Genesis being in the remake somehow?

Something between XIIs and XVs but with nomura cutscenes and story (nomura and nojima) and it will be fine. imo.Honestly I am not sure if I would want fully open world even for next-gen. Next-gen console will obviously have more power and can make beautiful open world, but I don't really trust the team to do a good open world without making any sort of sacrifices. I wouldn't mind zoned worlds like FFXII/DQXI, but much bigger and better looking. As long as the world looks beautiful I am happy.
I felt DQXI sizes were fine for that game, but I do wish Remake would have bigger zones than DQXI. DQXI's loading annoyed me a bit so hopefully either zones are much bigger in the Remake or they have much shorter loading.Something between XIIs and XVs but with nomura cutscenes and story (nomura and nojima) and it will be fine. imo.
And some towns dont have to be huge like midgar, like DQXI sized is fine
Probably between that and FFXV's Lestallum and Altissia. I can see Kalm being bigger than in FFVII, to replicate how it looked in DoC. I can see Nibelheim, Costa del Sol, Wutai and Corel (which would be mostly desolate) maybe that size. Gongaga and Cosmo Canyon would be smaller, and places like Rocket Town (a town were only Shinra scientists live) and Icicle Lodge would be considerably small. Midgar is going to be the biggest city, and Junon will be the second biggest (though considerably small compared to Midgar).Something between XIIs and XVs but with nomura cutscenes and story (nomura and nojima) and it will be fine. imo.

I'd say, personally, the zones should be the size BETWEEN DQXI and FFXV. DQXI was a good starter size, but it needs to be a bit bigger, BUT, not needlessly bigger to the point that there is just lots of empty space and trekking across a zone takes needlessly long. You need the impression that the world is big, but you also need it small enough to get from place to place on foot without it taking too long to wander around.I felt DQXI sizes were fine for that game, but I do wish Remake would have bigger zones than DQXI. I ended up ordering that vinyl. I don't even own a record player.
The fact that they are only pressing what's ordered made me go for it. If it was mass produced I'd probably not be so into it.I think most people that collect vinyls these days don't have a player.
I'm super tempted on this.
the NieR Vinyl boxset is great and if you want a record player you can get a nice one for around $150. you'l also need speakers but you dont need to go overboard to jump in. The DOOM vinyl box set is what got me to jump into the "dark hole" so i totally get where you are coming from. The fact that they are only pressing what's ordered made me go for it. If it was mass produced I'd probably not be so into it.
Saying that though I'm currently eyeing up the Nier vinyls now. This is a dark ass hole to fall into
That would be ideal. Hopefully they get the balance right.I'd say, personally, the zones should be the size BETWEEN DQXI and FFXV. Seems like ACG 2019 at Hong Kong will have FF7 Remake special stage on July 26th local time. It's scheduled for 30 minutes.
Honestly I don't really expect much news here but hopefully at least we get something new..
Also seems like Kitase will be at the event.
Also FF7R will be playable at this event. I wonder it will be no photo/video for the demo like E3...

I'd be surprised if they allowed recording tbh, as they didn't do that this E3 either.if it's a public event I'm sure they'll be some off screen recordings but no direct feed gameplay. I also wouldn't expect much "new" info. next new info dump will probably be gamescom. I think they probably wont give out many more details until next year like do a media blowout january through february but the kickoff could be Jump Festa in December
I always thought that would be the employee entrance, btw talking about DisneyI'm just about done with my re-playthrough of the switch release.
