We've begrudgingly come to accept over the last year or so that Final Fantasy VII Remake may be farther away than we'd like. As per details emerging from a new source, Square Enix at least has a release window in mind- though it doesn't look like even that has narrowed it down much. A user on TheLifestream.net recently uploaded translations of a recording of Square's Kitase, Hamaguchi, and Nomura having a behind-closed-doors conversation about Final Fantasy VII Remake at January's Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary celebration event.

... The translation of the conversation, though, gives very little concrete information. Kitase and Hamaguchi mention that they want Final Fantasy VII Remake to have launched before Final Fantasy's 35th anniversary. Which is all well and good, except that the 35th anniversary would be in 2023. Hamaguchi, thankfully enough, admits that that is too far along, so hopefully, we'll have the game on our hands much earlier than that. But oh well, at least we have a release window now- we're getting it before 2023.

I wish I remembered where I originally read this interview but the men in question were referencing the 35th anniversary as a joke.

5 years from now FF7 will not be 35. It will be 26.

Are they sure they'll be able to make it in time? Seems like a pretty tight schedule to be honest, they should've been more conservative.

that would be only max 8 years after announcement. That's a faster turnover than their previous projects. Clearly things are improving.

SURE this sounds totaly legit, why is gaming sites posting shit "rumours " made to troll ff fans?

That's midway into the next console generation's lifespan lol. Hope they're joking around.

Crazy, me and Final Fantasy VII are the same age but I distinctly remember it not existing until many years after I was born

Nvm, they meant the Final Fantasy series anniversary. The title threw me off

now, is that just for the first installment, or for all the parts? Last we heard this was going to be released in parts.

EDIT: OMG people, it was clearly a joke from that interview! Do people do research on these things before reposting them without context? *sigh*

While I do enjoy laughing at Square, the original source makes it seem like a joke.

Kitase then signs us off by making the joke previously mentioned in the thread, saying he wishes to keep on polishing up the game for the 35th anniversary, to which they all laugh and Hamaguchi responds objectingly "Hey that's a long ways off!"
He then however, also goes on to say that a lot is hanging on the next (presumably big) event, and that they're hoping to show off (the game) by then.
