Q: How many parts will the remake be?
Kitase: We have a general idea of how the story will play out, but we haven't decided exactly [how many parts], nor can we confirm anything. There's speculation that it will be 3 parts, but we're just doing things one step at a time.

Q: When will the next part release?
Nomura: Depends on how many parts the overall story will be. If we divide the story into large parts, it'll take longer to make. If we divide it into more detailed smaller sections, then developing it will be faster. I hope to release the next one ASAP.

Q: How was the final boss of FF7R Part 1 chosen?
Nomura: We wanted to have the last boss fight take place at the highway in Midgar, which arises questions that I cannot answer. There is a character who's alive, which leads to a great mystery.

Q: How will the story of Remake be different from the original?
Kitase: We're not drastically changing the story and making it into something completely different than the original. Even though it's a Remake, please assume the story of FF7 will continue as FF7 always has.

Q: How did you go about developing the various scenarios in the Remake?
Nomura: When I requested a scenario to Nojima, I first thought "if I am to create the FFVII Remake, I would like to do it this way." I then conveyed my ideas to him. During that phase, I planned for this to be more than just a mere "Remake".

Nojima: As for me, I knew that even though at the very core, this story is about Cloud, the works from the "Compilation of FFVII" have greatly increased over the years, and I wanted to make something that takes all of the works from that and combines it into one. Each person who played FFVII has their own vision of a remake and I wanted to preserve that too. The results of those feelings are shown in FFVII Remake's story. These were all ideas I had, so in the beginning I would show it to Nomura-san and do my best to explain them so that he wouldn't reject them. [laughs]

Q: At the end of the game, the words "The Unknown Journey Will Continue" show up on screen. What does that mean?
Nomura: Initially, there was another sentence we were going to use instead, but under various circumstances we decided to change it to what it is now. Kitase told me that it should be something which connects to what lies beyond the ending. Some might think that the meaning of the sentence is unsettling, but we already took that into consideration.

What character that is alive is he talking about? Zack, Biggs?

The next part will be severely shorter than this part considering this took almost 4 plus years to make so prepare for the next one to be a lot shorter then I can see them attempting to do the next "parts" as a bigger project to put out the finale

But Sephiroth was never really dead in the original though. He was in the Northern Crater.

The Sephiroth the crew is chasing are apparitions by Jenova and the "clones"

I believe he is referring to the fact that you fight "Sephiroth" at the end of Remake. He is just being coy with his words. And at the very least I don't take him to mean "Zack is alive."

There's going to be 5 smaller parts and then a grand finale huge part to make a total of 7. Because Nomura loves the number seven.

Pretty worrying, as a fan, they don't even have a plan on how many parts the full game will be. Also, I don't really see why changing the plot in that direction—is that adding something better? Meh.

WTF? They don't know how many parts???

I'm not surprised. Anyone who thinks Square went into this with some long-term plan is fooling themselves. Hence, why I am very skeptical about Square knocking the story out of the park with the later sequels. Maybe this information and the interview can put to be this "sequel or remake" nonsense.

Haha Persona 2 was such a great game. I just played both games this year. Really great story and characters.

Persona 2 never gets the credit it deserves. I love P4 and P5, but Persona 2 is a damn trip. The Fuhrer had me laughing my ass off along with my friends. The sunglasses bit made it funnier.

I feel so fucking vindicated by them saying that the game will largely play out as it had before, lmao. The immediate catastrophizing during the first week of release was extremely tiring.

"I wanted to make something that takes all of the works from that and combines it into one."

This is also very vindicating. I wrote that I felt this intent was extremely tangible in my review and people said I was crazy, but I was totally fucking right.

Most of that was pre planning, asset creation, getting the battle system off the ground etc. A lot of that stuff won't be necessary this time around. 2 years and we will have the next part.

Well the problem is the very slow fighting system. But the OST, characters and story were very cool. I liked the whole cast especially Maya, Tatsuya and Baofu.
The Fuhrer bit was hella crazy lol.

Kitase makes it sound like the story will still play out largely the same. I'm going to guess it will be similar structurally with small changes here and there to keep people on their toes. By the end though I do expect things to be rather different.

I'm excited to see how this all plays out.

Maya was fantastic. I've been getting slowly into SMT2 on the Super Famicom, so I can definitely relate to the fighting system.

Multiple timelines are tricky. I hope they can pull it off! There are theories that current Aerith is from another timeline as she foretells her death--telling Cloud not to fall in love with her and so on.

I am going with Back to the Future rules

Basically the cast have changed the past and the timeline has changed but they don't know it
