It's all over the place. You'll never get a consensus on "best" FF.
You’re going to get bombarded soon but I’ll just say that each one is worth playing.

VIII did a lot of things differently that pissed off a lot of traditional fans. It was also a bold leap forward for the series' presentation that can be felt today. Personally, I'm a big fan.
To be honest the mods that add realistically proportioned characters to the overworld of FFVII look terrible IMO. The maps were built for the little chibi blocky guys. They could have updated the battle models, though. This is what all remasters should strive to be, and all FFVII really needed instead of an unnecessary full blown remake.
I prefer it over 7 or 9.
The kinda already released the remastered VII version. This kinda makes me wish they just remastered VII and moved on.
Imo, it was better than VII but not as good as IX. I put it above most of the main games (IV, IX, XIV, and VI are the only ones I would put higher than it).
Same. In fact, it's probably my favourite game of all time
Damn the world building in this game was so fucking great. Thought of everything. It looks so silky smooth, really good work on the enemy models, too.
Can't wait to see these guys:

None of them is better than IX. The problem with VIII is that is all over the place. Convoluted systems and what not.
VIII is damn near the best FF until the final act, in my opinion. I don't know if I don't like where the story goes, or maybe how it is executed, but it just loses that tension and fun to me. The last actish feels like a different game.
Heck no.This is what all remasters should strive to be, and all FFVII really needed instead of an unnecessary full blown remake.
Right? I'm looking forwards to this, I haven't played FFVIII in a while and I can't wait to hear some of my favorites in the moment.

Final Fantasy 5? I love that game personally, but I never hear about people listing it as one of their favorites.
well you heard it now.Final Fantasy 5? I love that game personally, but I never hear about people listing it as one of their favorites.
It’s the most divisive FF game. I prefer 7 and 9 over it.
IX>VIII>VII for me.
Lol, I thought you were providing a consensus summary not your personal fav :p
If by “decent” you mean “the best”.
I personally hate the draw system and junctioning and all that shit. So yeah, I personally dont like the combat.
It's the best. Dont let anyone lie to you
VIII is better than both.
I feel it's a matter of how the characters and the overall plot clicks with each person. Is definitely a flawed game in terms of battle system and some other mechanics, but it got the best presentation and setpieces of the series. Something that sorely lacks in the last FF games, specially XV.
Ehhh... I would put XIII and XV as more divisive.
It didn't need to be anything. They wanted to make ff7 but a different game and they did. You wanna play remastered ff7 mods exists you will be fineThis is what all remasters should strive to be, and all FFVII really needed instead of an unnecessary full blown remake.
