Q: Does the Remaster have the music bug?
A: No it doesn't however there is a unique music bug that happens when saving, exiting, watching the credits and then loading back your file.
*UPDATE 11/14/19: Patch released that fixed the music error for The Landing. Overture now lines up properly with credits and other bugs were fixed as well.

Q: Does the game use the MIDI soundtrack from the PC version?
A: Nope! It will use the original PS1 soundtrack

Q: Is there any design changes?
A: Yes! Siren has been given a feather skirt that is a much better design choice and Triple Triad cards now use zoomed out shots of GF on the card similar to JP.

Q: Does the game have full analog controls?
A: The game does not.

Q: Are the backgrounds updated with the models?
A: Unfortunately not. I heavily recommend Steam version if this bothers you.

Q: Is there a physical version?
A: As the image at the very top says, this is currently Digital Only.
Update: Two physical versions have been announced for Europe, The Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand for Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch. The Switch version is a twin pack that includes Final Fantasy VII. Both are dated for December 4th.

Q: Is there any achievement guides?
A: There is for the 2013 PC port on Steam. It covers all the achievements that are appearing in the Remaster. Steam Achievement guide and here is the guide that focuses on the Missables for Achievements.

Q: Is Chocobo World in this version?
A: No it isn't but the items have been added into the game via Angelo Search. Here is a guide for using the best possible method to acquire all newly added items: Angelo Search Trick *updated 9/10/19

*credit to FantasticMrFoxdie for OT title!

Keen to try this again now that I'm a bit older and will probably understand the Junction system a bit better. It's probably my least revisited Final Fantasy.

Beautiful OT and perfect title Wazzy !

I haven't done a full replay of VIII in many years, so I'm eagerly awaiting Tuesday.

I can probably give up on checking for switch pre-loads huh?

I think I've checked the store every 8 hours.

I love the art for this game. Yeah Zell has a face tattoo and Squall has too many belts but I think FF7, FF8 and Parasite Eve were the peak of Nomura's creativity when it came to designing characters.

I wish I had the money to play this.

I remember when this came out on PS1 and I was sorta disappointed in this game as a follow up to 7.

What I wouldn't give to have single player FF return to this level of quality. I replayed it a few years back and now think it's an outstanding game. Totally ready to replay it again.

Nice OT, still undecided with what system I want to get it for but really excited to jump back in again.

Also, congrats to the winners.

Oh yeah I'm gonna put these really quick tips here because I know it's gonna get asked so many times in this thread:

JUNCTIONING >>> LEVELING UP
Leveling up is largely useless as enemies scale with your level, avoid grinding combat and focus on Junctioning spells to increase stats. The differences are huge. Feel free to turn off encounters. Junctioning can let you build any character however you want, explore and learn the -J GF abilities to get even higher stats. If you learn Str-J from Ifrit and Junction strong magic to it, you'll have a physical attacker that's much stronger and faster than summoning GFs over and over.

GF ABILITIES >>> DRAWING
While it doesn't hurt to Draw, don't go out of your way to do it. Don't wait for draw points to restock or sit around drawing from enemies non-stop (except make sure to Draw from bosses as they might have new GFs for you). Instead learn the Refine (-RF) GF abilities to turn items/cards/magic into magic.

For an easy example, Draw Siren from early boss Elvoret. Learn her L Mag-RF ability. This will let you turn 1x Tent into 10x Curaga. Junction 100x Curaga to HP. Be amazed.

Recommended early abilities: Card, Card Mod, anything with -RF or -J.

TRIPLE TRIAD >>> EVERYTHING
Play against everyone. Cards are great for refining into Magic. If you want to get crazy with it, you can get Squall's best weapon very early in the game through cards. Not recommended for first timers though.

Amazing OT and I can't wait for Tuesday.

I did a low lvl run this past May, so I'm thinking about what I want to do here. Too bad Sept is crazy jam packed otherwise I might have tried a no/limited junction run. Don't think I want to commit that much time.

It's a bit hard to trust SE with remasters, especially when the old final fantasy games are concerned. I'll wait until reviews/impressions hit before buying, but i'm looking forward to it because it's one of the 2 classic FF's i never played(4 being the other).

Wazzy, this OP is gorgeous! It really inspires. And once again, thank you for running that contest! I know I didn't win, but who cares? You rock for doing it!

Now let's all shuffle or boogie.

There's no chance of Limited Run ever doing such a big game like this, is there? I don't want this digitally :(

While reminiscing about what to write in that giveaway thread, I remembered a few of the different crazy places the story goes. I can't wait to see what I've forgotten.

I was unexpectedly given Wednesday off, and don't go back till late Thursday so I'm going to rage like Fujin.

Actually kind of want to play this version, even though I haven't played it since it first came out. Really like the visual updates they've done. Looks sharp.

Thanks! I was pretty young on my first play through and didn't know these things so gave up early into esthar as it got super hard, probably due to my grinding out levels on disc one!

Questions:
1. I got junctioning before but you usually need to unlock the junction skills via AP(?), which your GF only gets through battle. so you have to fight just enough to unlock all the junction GF abilities and then turn encounters off?
2. So there's no point in unlocking any other GF abilities (except Card)?
3. Is there a handy online guide to Triple Triad that's easy to read? I remember getting beat down and losing my best cards, then it was impossible to win again :(

1. Bosses don't give experience so you can get AP through them as long as you are setting the proper abilities to learn. A little bit of battling won't cause scaling as it's determined by the parties average level. Most refine abilities can be learned quickly and with No Encountees being a booster you can stop random encounters right from the beginning.

2. Some abilities are worth grabbing. They offer stat boosts such as HP Str+40% or HP+40% and other useful abilities like auto-haste/auto-potion.

3. I'll look for something that can explain easier but my tip for Triple Triad is:

ALWAYS save before challenging someone. It's the best way to avoid losing a rare card and the annoyance of winning it back. The other reason is to make sure you spread or stop the spreading of rules you dislike.

The game at it's simplest is just higher numbers will beat lower. So if you put a card with 7(up) 2(right) 9(left) 4(down) next to a card with 8(up) 6 (left) 4(right) 8(down) the second card wins because the 6 left was higher than 2 right.

Thanks for these, I mostly just played and finished it like a normal JRPG back in the day so this way I'll get to play it like a whole new game. Pretty cool.

Go with Wazzy's answers above, but I'll add a little tip for AP grinding:

For easy early game AP, Fastitocalon-F found on beaches, the beach near Balamb exclusively has them. Low exp and 3AP each (and they come in groups of 2-3). Also, if you kill enemies with Card, they don't give you EXP, only AP. It's not necessary, but super handy if you're going for a no level run.

Almost every GF ability has some use, but I would focus on Card/Card Mod first and then prioritize the -RF or -J abilities and %Stat increases are good too as Wazzy mentioned.

Since you are leveling up through the roof via junctioning etc. and the enemy isn't keeping up because they are scaling with your level (which you are not leveling up), is the game still fun or does it become too easy fast?

Really wished this had come out on Friday because of the three day weekend here in the US but oh well. Anyway, great OT wazzy. I'm glad it all ended up coming together! The use of the CG promotional art was a good choice. Congrats to the winners as well! Can't wait to go on a nostalgia trip this week!

So digital only release. Was hoping there's physical one based from the rumours before. Also, is there platinum trophy and how hard to get it?

Well, I got $20 in my PSN wallet. Time to buy it :)

Didn't realize this was out. Ready to spend way too much money to hate-play this fucking thing.

I owned a Sega Saturn as a child, and choosing to buy this instead of a Dreamcast on 9/9/99 felt like a bold act of defiance. It's one of my biggest gaming regrets to this day.

Objectively the best Final Fantasy Uematsu soundtrack though.

Great OT.. well done it's very beautiful and elegant :-)

Two more days till I dive back again to my favorite gaming world, super needed and super excited.

I miss the world of FFVIII so much it has been years since my last replay!
