Been getting back into the game after college craziness has died down. Currently level 56 and just got to patch 2.4 content. I'm overleveled because I'm determined to play each of the dungeons/trials/raids for ARR at least once before moving on which might be silly but I'm enjoying myself. How hard is it to get into the older 24 man raids?
Pretty easy to get into Crystal Tower this days, though people's ilevels are so high that mechanics are mostly tossed out the window. The other 24-mans will generally have longer queues, but usually not impossible. Expect a lot of casual raiders to show back up towards the end of the month for the NieR raid.

The Ivalice raids are the best content FFXIV had ever had imo

But people hate running them because there's lots of new mechanics and people have high salt and little patience. I've only seen Orbonne twice... and the second time was awful ☹

I love doing the ivalice raids, but they show up so infrequently that when I do get one I invariably end up dying to some mechanic or other, especially Orbonne. Most of the time I get LotA or ST or WoD. Yaaaawn

Healing through a failing, salty run on Thunder God is some blood pressure raising shit

It went so smoothly on my first run tho. Having a group that knows mechanics means so much on that fight. Nobody can really get away with not learning fast (least not too many people can anyway).

Gives everyone more defined abs and muscles

Mods paying off, kinda wish they would update the CaC so I could do that anyways. The lack of muscle definition on a lotta folks always irked me

Damn I wish I was on PC now. I wanna give my girl some abs. She should be ripped by now after killing so many gods and saving the world every day.

Yeah, my catboy needs to be more ripped. Where is my muscle slider.

I would love a muscle slider of some sort. Even with roe their muscles kinda come across uh...flat kinda? I guess that is just the art style kinda, though luckily a lot of square enix has been moving away from that in thier jrpg's as of late. Maybe one day they will do some CaC updates and we will get the muscle and butt sliders everyone desires. Also you know maybe like male viera pls, please someone please

Anywho, muscles

I'm a new player, currently level 48 Paladin making my way through the ARR MSQ, and am wondering if/when I should start leveling another class.
If you have the expansions you can switch to the jobs which start at 30 or 50 to avoid having to level from 1-50 again. Once you get to the end of 2.0, you can switch to Samurai or Red Mage (starting level 50) and once you get to Heavensward you can switch to Dark Knight, Astrologian or Machinist (starting level 30).

I've heard it's more efficient to reach the cap for one job and then start levelling other jobs, but there's nothing stopping you from taking the long way.

Pugs in Feast are so aggravating. Everyone just runs ahead and then SPREAD OUT, as a caster I get picked off immediately by the entire enemy group as they completley bypass my team and beeline for me with our healer invariably just standing around and only beginning a cast once I'm one hit from death. When I play healer, the tank and melee just fuck off to the far end of the arena and tunnel so hard they become useless. How are randoms so incredibly inept that they can't grasp the basic concept of stay near your team and work together? I wish PVP had dumbass awards to give other players so they know exactly what I think of them. God

Ok so I'm close to being finished with Shadowbringers (lvl79, I've progressed a bit into the last area) and I really need to say it: You guys weren't kidding. It's a sublime expansion. I love the story. To me it's the best one so far. Even better than Heavensward. I also really dig all the new zones and the MSQ related to them. I love the progression. The flow of the MSQ is so gripping. I never ever got bored. I saw myself playing the game for the longest stretches, having an hard time putting the M/K down. But really, the star for me is the freaking OST. Oh. My. God. How do they even managed to surpass themselves each expansion? It's ludicrous. I mean, each expansion and even the base game have some fantastic songs but I'd argue that if you had to put on paper all the songs that you really love for each expansion, ShB would have the most in my case. It's also the expansion where I felt my current class was the most badass (Bard) all things considered.

So far playing FFXIV has been a grand adventure for the better part of the last 2 months, thanks to the continuous MSQ. I wish it would never end; I'm a bit sad that I'll soon finish the MSQ and that I will have to wait months for the next patch to come out and get a little stretch of continuity with the MSQ. At least 5.1 comes out very soon so I guess I'll have a bit more to do other than leveling a new job/profession or farming rep. I also intend to get the ilvl 460 gear, which I understand will take quite a few weeks. Finally, I still have plenties of raids and dungeons that I've yet to complete, thanks to the quick MSQ rush I did at the end of SB.

But yeah, I feel like I'll hit some post game depression or a similar feeling after I'm done with the MSQ LOL

Is the hunting discord reliable for actually getting to hunts in time? I've been trying to get a hunt ls since like SB but all the active ones are full

How hard is it to get into Savage? I've played since launch but until Stormblood I ignored all the 8-man raid content and so after catching up with Omega in the months before ShB and so I never did Savage.

I'm i456 right now with just 3 more weeks and I'll have every i460 equipment I can buy for my class.

Raiding is more mind over matter. The hardest part is finding 7 other like minded people who want to raid at the same times every week (if you join a static). If you go the PF route, make sure you do research before fights, and pray that the 7 pugs have an IQ above 30

Yeah, unfortunately wouldn't have the time to do a static. Would need to be PF.

Rival Wings is probably the most interesting PvP mode but seems ppl barely plays it? Queues are way longer than Frontlines.

I also I was losing every match yesterday, until I checked off the freelance option and now that I got paired with Mael I won 3 consecutive matches. So it was true that Mael is OP in frontlines. I might be able to get the mount before 5.1!

With PF you're gonna need to have tons of patience. Also, you're gonna get as much as you put in. Don't be afraid to leave trap parties and search for something else if you feel like 7 other people are wasting your time. I know I stressed patience earlier in my reply, but there is a huge difference between a potential "clear" party and a "clear" party where the PF is wiping at the first phase for 30 minutes.

Thanks! I'll follow this.

I would also suggest doing the beast tribe daily quests at level appropriate intervals. Combined with hunts in the right zone, it's a good way to get some xp while waiting for queues to pop, plus you can get your hands on some silly mounts and other exclusive items by ranking up with them. The ARR beast tribe quests are a bit painful to do though (due to lack of flying mainly).

ARR - level 40-50 (I think)
Heavensward beast tribes - level 50-60.
Stormblood - 60-70.
Shadowbringers - no beast tribes yet, but soon.

(They are also decent ways for lazily levelling up crafters - Ixal, Moogle and Namazu are crafting focused as far as I remember).

Part of the problem is that people will largely ignore what you write in the pf, doesn't matter how clearly you put that it's not a learning party people with no knowlege of the fight will still join every time. I personally quit doing that content after the frustration of trying to clear T5 with randoms back in ARR

Learning the mechanics yourself is the easy part

Labyrinth of the Ancients was super easy and quick to get into which was nice. Completely different from Garuda Extreme where I tried two days ago for 40 minutes but had to give up, then last night where I finally beat it after another 30 minutes (plus an 80 minute queue!).

this echoes how I felt. Unfortunately nothing has gripped me quite the same way since finishing it all. I played Fire Emblem after I beat it and all I could think of was playing more FFXIV and wishing FE could make me love it like FFXIV. It unfortunately hasn't stopped since lol.

I continue to be shocked at how absolutely compelled I am by this game. I had intentionally jumped in months ago to just steamroll the MSQ just to experience the story, and now here I am, 80 hours lately, completely hooked on doing everything the game has to offer. Here I was thinking I would be all in on the new Destiny 2 expansion but all I want to do is come home from work and play XIV. And I'm only at the 2.x quests, lol!

Anyway, used my Fantasia last night. Went from a female Elezen to a female Hyur. For some reason I couldn't get the ears right on my Elezen and they kept bugging me, so I decided to just scrap it and move over to Hyur. And for some reason it was starting to bug me that my character was just absolutely towering over everyone else in cutscenes, lol. I actually made the new Hyur very similar in appearance to the old one, with some minor changes here and there. But I'm happy with the changes overall.

Anyone on Brynhildr in a decent sized FC that is looking for members? The one I am in now is real small and pretty dead - hoping to join a large one with friendly folks who wouldn't mind helping me run Coils at some point. Unfortunately not on Ultros as I know the Restera FC is there. Really wish we were allowed a one time free transfer, ha.

Yep I quit Savage because of PF and not having the time to do a scheduled weekly. These days I just play when I can. Someone here suggested joining parties that are a mechanic ahead of what you're currently at because chances are that people joining won't actually be at the requested mechanic.

Yeah man I feel like this is going to hit me like a ton of brick. At least I really enjoy the day to day stuff of the game. Love doing dungeons, farmings tomstones, etc. This should keep me happy for a while.

You're the real one for doing old content synced. I wonder if there's a discord for those who do old content synced

Am I crazy or has the cap for this patch felt longer than most patch gaps usually do?

I wish I cared one remote fraction of a shit for Nier Automata so I actually had a raid to look forward to, but Automata was such a goddamn mess I just don't care at all.

How long do the Daily Roulette : Alliance Raids take on average? Or is it highly dependant on setup. I haven't done any of the raids yet.

At the very least we'll get some nice glamour pieces. Even if you don't care for the full sets/costumes a piece or two can be just what one of your glamours needs.

Not my fault Yoko Taro decided to waste my time with a boring story about boring sex dolls in a boring dead world with nothing in it! :P

But yeah, this patch gap feels longer than the ones in SB at least...

Alliance Raids like CT should take 20 min or so if everything goes ok (which it should), the FFT one could take quite a bit more but you never get that.

Daily Roulette depends of the dungeon and the pt. Some early dungeons may take longer but with no wipes and long pulls 20 minutes or so too.

The first patch after the expac is always longer because they time the patch 3 months~ after savage releases, not after the expac release. So it turns the usual 3 month-100 day gap between patches into a 4 month gap.

Well, over the course of a week I've gone from not knowing what the heck "dailies" means to recognizing the intense leveling power therein.
